  1. these are quite common from street vendors in China, who sell them for about $20US.
  2. very nice, too bad about the caseback engraving s.
  3. actually, most competent watchmakers can realign the central counter hand, and affix it in place for about $30
  4. properly sized gaskets, with properly lubricated o-rings is certainly more important than overtightening
  5. I think the weight may be a giveaway?
  6. It would be interesting to see how much of the manufacturer's costs actually go to production, compared to costs going to marketing. Given that many source their parts from sub-contractors in Asia, there is every reason to believe that the cost of production has actually gone down in the last 10 years... I have no problems paying a manufacturer if the bulk of their costs actually went into production, but i would have an issue with companies like Tag Heuer and Omega spending millions for celebrity endorsements from Tiger Woods, Cindy Crawford, and Pierce Bosnan.
  7. I think that may be a BOB Vertigo/
  8. sorry to hear about your friend... i had a passing interest in stamps when I was younger... looked at your friend's collection, nothing special, as most of the stamps are from the 1980s... the only exception MAY be the Malaysian stamp with the Kanji characters on it, which states "Japan Post, 6 cts", this would most likely have been from the 1940s, when Malaysia was under Japanese occupation, that one may be worth something.
  9. Actually the clutch CAN wear out, but it will take literally thousands of "over-winding" to do it.
  10. I don't think the dial feet on a genuine dial will fit the Chinese movement, as they different in placement from the ETA.
  11. I think Joshua's new Cartier Tank, with the ETA 2000 comes pretty darn close.
  12. it actually looks decent...after a few beers and without my glasses.
  13. Breitling, simply because less screwed-down crown means least wear and tear
  14. The old ones like the Seawolf were classics...the new "Zodiac" is a branding company, and source most of their stuff from China... I would say the quality is comparable to a Timex.
  15. i would suggest The Zigmeister as well.
  16. you can actually see the textured dial, which the reps don't seem to be able to replicate./
