  1. Good job Andrew. It is a nice piece indeed...but like you said, unfortunately some (mine included) had a crown that strips easily. Mine didn't turn very many turns at all, and the crown was a bit loose on the stem. These flaws can be readily remedied by a replacement with an original crown and tube. This has been discussed in other threads, but to those who are new to this, the gen tube does not fit as snugly as the rep tube (which is press fit)...and needs to be glued into the case after drilling out the old rep tube. The glue used by various members includes epoxy and Gorilla glue. The parts for this mod are: For Case Number 178.0514 made in Codes "ST" Stainless Steel, "DA" Steel & 18KT Gold, "SU" Steel & Aluminium Ring Crown: 42154 Tube: 090 ST 1237
  2. You found the right place coming here. There is lots of knowledge and an exciting and passionate group of people. You'll find great photography, great info...and unfortunately, great reasons for your wife to think you are even crazier than you were.
  3. I think you're right...crap...I hate it when you write about new watches...well...I don't hate it...but my bank book does! It is a nice watch...and a different brand and bracelet configuration to round out the collection given I have my lovely SMP Chrono.
  4. I missed that...oh man...screw the high tech sector...I'm driving a cab...
  5. Ditto...man, we're ageing ourselves here...
  6. Yup...oh yeah. How do you know when you are in over your head? When you open the caseback...see an antimag cover on the movement...and spend the better part of Ishtar looking for the screws or clips to release it...not that I would know about that...more than once that is. As to biggest mistakes? Let me get back to you on that when AJS sends me a replacement stem for one of his movements and I get back to assembling my stripped Noob movement. Practical? No...but a fun learning experience.
  7. Beautiful...I love the middle one. I'm trying to show restraint on new reps...the Ebel is nice...the new Ebel is really nice...but somehow reminds me a lot of the Speedmaster...so not sure if I should do the new 1911 or a Speedy Date...hmmmm...
  8. Wow...WOW. I love the open 6 faded dialed GMT!! I'll leave it to the masters like you and BT to tell me the actual model number.
  9. This is probably the big problem with this rep. For reference on replacing the crown...please read this thread (this problem has been discussed lots): Crown and Tube Replacement on SMP Chrono You've received some advice on the insert already...so I won't bother with that one.
  10. Great as always. Hey...congrats on the 2000 views in such a short time! Woohoo. You are Legend!
  11. Echoing the posse...great review...good info...great pics. Any chance of a side pic of the chrono pushers and the crown??
  12. Member Ajoesmith sells the A7750's in a standard 6-9-12 config for about $120...haven't heard of replacement Venus movements being sold though. AJS also sells a DG4813 high beat as a replacement to a lot of the Asian 21js'...Noobmariners, Asian SOSF, etc. DG2813's are cheap...around $13 from most suppliers.
  13. Very nice collection Uncle. I do like that PVD Pam. What model is the blue dialed Pam with what looks like applique numbers? I was not aware Pams came with numbers like that. Interesting!
  14. Excuse the stupid APROO Noob question here...I'm I correct to understand that this new release with secs @ 12, is still the usual A7750 but with a "properly done" mod kit to move the subdials around, or is this an entirely different movement? The macro shots are great, but to the uninitiated, I couldn't tell you if the transfer gears were properly jewelled or running metal on metal...not knowing which would be the transfer gears. Great work as always Lani.
  15. Hey AJS, Your Photobucket pic links are dead....AAAARRRRGGGGHHH...right after my lovely movement from you arrived and I'm ready to try the work.
  16. You're going for the good stuff!! The red Hawaiian salt...nice!! @ Hike...thanks for the grease link!
  17. Good job Lani. BTW...what lube did you use? What's a micro lube??
  18. Send them an email. I'm not sure any of those listed is right. You will also need the tube. The case number of this watch is 178.0514 The Omega part numbers are: Crown 42154 Tube 090 ST 1237
  19. Yup. With the net...you can come and go and not feel bad that you're going to bump into that neighbour at the grocery store you stopped talking to...or the evil ex at the restaurant you used to hang out at. People come and go and crowds change in all social circles...gyms, cafes, bars, etc. Great members leave...but fantastic arrivals show up as well...so it's all give and take. I know I'm posting a lot less as my buying has slowed down. When design changes happen and my buying picks up...I know I'll start posting more again. So there are ebbs and flows, ups and downs not only in members leaving and going, but active members posting and not posting as well.
  20. HAH. Stop using your yoga mat as a prop and get that camera into the yoga class to ummmm...take wrist-shots...yeah...lots of wrist shots.
  21. Unc...just awesome. Your comparisons like this are truly a privilege to see. Can you do a side-by-side comparison of a gen vs. rep Patek Sky Moon? That EoD rep is good! There are some minor flaws...but nothing at all major: - Date font / date mag - Lume colour (only noticeable on a side-by-side) - 12-o-clock stick marker - 8-o-clock marker font difference / subdial overlay difference But man...they even got the angle of the bezel screw heads right. Very very nice!!
  22. It's not just the participation but the positive participation. Your enthusiasm is infectious and your whole attitude towards the hobby gracious...the way it should be. It's nice to be reminded of the passion that is at the heart of the hobby and your posts do that. It's also nice to see the really rare items side by side with the rep stuff too.
  23. That would be killer!! If only I had a spare cal. 1861 lying around...
