The existing gasket on the SSD will be fine. The gasket might be dry though. You can get silicon grease at Ofrei. Don't use anything else as it may breakdown the rubber. Grease Link at Ofrei There's a gasket lubricator system that is good...there are other gasket greases listed on the page. I get my stuff locally in Toronto. You can also get some at scuba shops for sealing waterproof camera case gaskets.

The issue is more than the appearance in this thread. The crown/tube cutting of the threads on the gen tube and crown is much better and at a different angle than the rep. This means that if you strip the threads on the rep crown/tube...the only fix is to upgrade to the gen, and this is a significant upgrade as the gen tube and crown thread together better. You cannot upgrade to just a gen tube OR crown...they have to be done together.

I followed The Zigmeister's advice on screwing in the crown to avoid stripping by turning counter-clockwise until I felt the click before screwing it in...but cheap threads still strip. To be honest...at least it looks alright even if the crown is not screwed in. Thanks Taka. Does anything special need to be done to install the new tube into the case?

If you don't need the money...don't need to free up space...your collecting isn't hurting anybody...then there really isn't any reason you should give any up...especially if the only reason is that you feel you should. You obviously have some degree of attachment to all the items...so go with that and keep them. Having a chronology of reps is an interesting thing too...as the whole tells a story which a single item can't do justice with. Hence the logic behind Stephane's extraordinary Sub collection. If you feel it is wasteful to have so much...you have purged through fundraising and have generated good Karma points by helping the forum. Don't feel bad about what you're doing. However...I will gladly rent some of your pieces so I can write reviews and photograph watches I can't afford to buy right now.

Stephane and others convinced me just to get the gen Bergeon 29.5mm die...and whatever cheap arms you want. I have a complete set with arms that cost about $30...and the gen 29.5mm die (the only one you will need Lani) was about $20. You have to grind out the Bergeon arm slot so it fits better...but that's a 10min Dremel option. The gen 29.5mm die is significantly better fit than the El Cheapo...but for arms...you can really get away with a piece of 5/8" or whatever the measure is(can't remember) pipe or a screwdriver...all that matters is the die fit.

I read somewhere of someone getting this pretty close. I thought it would be fun to try...fun turned to frustration and I gave up. It was fun to see what was possible with my tolerance level.

Polars are probably the most popular. I use a Sigma Sports one...pretty basic, but works fine. I don't use a lot of the tracking features...I just want target highs and lows, and alarms when I dip below/above targets. There are GPS ones as well...but these things suck batteries.

Yup...G-Shock...unofficially battle hardened. I really like my Spitfire. It's got a certain balance of added class mixed with retro-homage that I like, that the 3717-01 lacks. Don't get me wrong, the 3717-01 instrument panel look is great with a much cleaner interpretation I think than the B&R's... Do many pilot's actually wear B&R?? I actually like some of the MTM watches as well: The Black Seal Special Ops is interesting as the movement is liquid filled to produce WATERPROOF certification (6600 fathoms)...not the contraction/expansion air bubble at 12-o-clock.

I have a couple cheap hand pulling tools from International Watchman, and they work fine for taking the hands off. I use the Bergeon dial protectors instead of the cheap post-it note route which works fine too. I have a hand setting station, but if I have the movement in the movement holder, there isn't enough clearance, so I end up just using the chucks (dies or whatever you call them) to press the hands in (similar to the Bergeon empty Bic refill tool). To position the hands, I use a bit of Rodico on the hands...get it in position, and press down with the hand setting bit. The hours/minutes chronos aren't too bad. The centre second hand is hard if there's no hack, to get lined up precisely for date rollover...I just go for a "close enough for Jazz" alignment...but, with Rodico and a 4x loupe, you can get things lined up reasonably well for pressing down with the handset tool.

2 schools of thought. Rob (The Zigmeister) says to remove the stem in the winding position...others have had better luck in the time-setting position. Rob's way is the correct way, but can be harder to get the stem back in. As you push the stem release button on the A7750, turn the stem in the winding direction, and it should disengage. To re-insert, you push the button again, and slowly wind the stem in. It may take a few tries. If it's not in all the way...time-setting may work, but winding not...or you might not be able to wind without the rotor spinning or some other kind of weird operation. If this is the case, pull it back out, and try again. Other movements (non A7750) should NOT have the stem release button pushed for re-insertion.

Nope. THe second pusher is excellent for stress release and passing the time.

I was just joking. Usually the rep factories get most things right the first time 'round...then come up with an Ultimate or improved version right? Given that this example of the gen at the AD is crooked, I was joking that the factories' current 3717-01/03 is in fact ultimate and close to the gen now, given that they've added double AR and the crooked markers on purposes instead of in error (which it obviously is).
