  1. Baaah! Money's for the rich. Now DEBT...that's for the common man.

  3. Hah hah. It's now time for the Defy Extreme...or the Gaytona. What's old is new right?
  4. FxrAndy used to have Sticky Balls...but I missed out on the offer.
  5. I went to the AD today, but they didn't have the Discovery on hand (I went to a smaller AD...not the high end one). They did have a BTR though, but didn't bother trying that one on, thinking the Discovery is definitely a step above in elegance. I tried on the Aquaracer and felt that was pretty comfortable and a definite good size for me. Those comparison shots would be interesting.
  6. Not my cup of tea, but a very complex looking watch. I do like the caseback and combination of raised and engraved letters, and the pvd rotor. Congrats!
  7. Pregnant and in the kitchen...and you might have the dream woman...
  8. Nice...it wasn't until fairly recently, that I finally ditched my OS/2 disks. End of an era. I'm thinking of doing that Vintage Sub thing...or possibly a 1655 project, but I'm not sure if want to venture down that long path of sourcing, and modding, etc. I headed over to the AD at the Eaton's Centre in Toronto to find out that it's closed for awhile for big renovations, so I didn't get a chance to try on the Skyland and see how big it looks on my wrist. Many of the wrist shots (BT and Lani of course are DEFINITE exceptions) seem to make the Skyland like a huge puck on the wrist.
  9. Yup...the 3717-02/05 is a beauty.
  10. Go Freddy. I'm all over that retro-sub with the floppies... You should have pulled out some of the BIG floppies for photo. @BT...yup...I like that Ebel more and more I see it @UB...your gen Skyland rocks.
  11. Don't tell me you stopped one short of the trifecta? The real question is: rubber, leather or bracelet? I'm thinking I like the grey for a change, but like the utilitarian-ness of the black. I agree Lani, the grey does look good with the bracelet.
  12. I just saw your reply to BT's Discovery review. Hah. We're reading the same posts.
  13. OK...let me be one of the first to thank you for writing this. The last shot is amazing on your famous red nubbly thing. This is definitely one of the pieces I'm thinking of getting, but I'm drawn to the "value" that the Skyland offers, given it's almost $100 less than the Discovery. Do you think the additional expense is warranted? Would it be based on the construction and finish of the bracelet? Again...nice write-up as always. It is interesting to note you say it feels smaller than what it measures. It has a nice balanced look on your wrist similar to your Aquaracer.
  14. I wish I had more opportunity to do more reviews...but I haven't had a chance to buy any more reps as of late. I enjoyed writing what I have posted, and do it more to see something up there that may be of interest to even that one person who may have written a response...because that 1 person may be the new super poster, or the new SD4K uber-reviewer...you just never know. I have to say, all the reviews you've put up By-Tor are well appreciated by me!! Same goes for the rest of the "old gang". The photography and layout work is very inspiring!
  15. Awwwww...TT...we didn't even get a chance to flame him before you shut him down. I just had a re-read of this review SDK...awesome as always. Great job, and the standard for reviews!
  16. These days...if you get the white dialed one, it is such a good deal at ~$130 shipped, versus three times that for the ETA (which may well be an ETA copy). For movement reliability, with a $10 2813 available as a replacement...who cares about the reliability of the ETA vs. the CN mechanical. For those who haven't looked at these threads, the white dialed SFSO shows less reflection than the darker dials, so the lack of AR on the asian SFSO is not really noticeable. If you wanted, a crystal coat by Jakub or Chief would give WAY better results than the factory AR anyways, and still bring the total to less than half of the ETA version.
  17. I've always returned exactly like you did Airmail...no tracking. I've shipped with tracking but that's like 3x the price...not worth it. It's a slow process...expect 2 months. 3-4 weeks for the return...1-2 weeks for the repair...and then the return shipping will likely not be done by EMS but the slow route...so 2-4 weeks for that.
  18. Big congrats. Hey...now I'm one step closer. And another for me...hah hah...
  19. Rough. It's always a pain to settle into a new environment which can never be like the old home...but hopefully, eventually it will be just as rewarding in a different way. I know you've already bought a few reps to wash down the sorrow...that should help.
  20. Ditto. Don't forget to look at IWCs either...beautiful watches. The pics don't do justice until you see one on your wrist. Their simplicity in design creates a certain elegance that shouldn't be overlooked.
  21. Yup. Like Phoband said...no AR, mineral crystal, and Asian slow beat. When they came out with the new'ish one about a year ago with the new pricing, Jay stayed the same. Good for him!! His SFSO is definitely the best deal on the block.
  22. I have to say, when the PO Chrono came out, I fell in love with the orange model. However, when I tried the gen on at the AD, it was so huge in terms of weight, thickness, strap, everything that it came across too much to me like wearing a brick. Maybe it's just that I have skinny chicken wrists...but hey...you have to work with what you have. Looking more and more at the PO non-chronos with the orange numbers like Samurai's, I'm starting to be drawn back to it. The Broad Arrow style hands are nice, with the updated bezel font making things more updated. The orange numbers add a splash of colour, and the stick markers remind of the old Steve McQueen 1655 Rolex Explorer...nice!
  23. Many have had great experience with the Asian 21J movements...having them last for years unserviced without problems. Me, I've had lots of problems with them: slipping datewheels, stopped movements, slipped keyless works, etc. If you can do the movement change yourself, it's the most economical as a new DG2813 movement (slow beat unfortunately, but not too noticeable, and it lacks the hack) is about $12, and has a very good reputation (and generally takes the datewheels for some of the Asian movements, or even better, you can just glue the date overlay from the existing watch onto the new movement). To have someone do the movement swap will likely cost you $50...which puts you to the cost of shipping it back to China (probably $20 USD or so). Mind you, there are risks to shipping things back to China (I would wait until after the Olympics). Good luck.
