By the time the stupid format war is over its likely that high definition downloads will rule anyway. You can already download HD rips of all the HD-Dvd or Blu-Ray movies and HD copies of most tv shows off Bit Torrent. From where I live (outside USA) its still a bit slow but quite achievable. If you're US or Euro based with good internet speed you can have an HD movie down in hours. Sooner or later Apple itunes or someone will start selling HD downloads legitimately. Sony, Toshiba and the rest have stuffed up massively here and basically wasted the opportunity to get an HD disc format off the ground. I don't see the format war ending anytime soon and in the mean time consumers just aren't buying. To answer you question.. I'd either buy a regular DVD player or maybe one of those super low priced Toshiba HD-Dvd players. To play HD downloaded content on the TV grab an Apple mac mini or Apple TV if you a Mac user, or a Network media player (various brands) and network this to you computer.

I have the sillix strap and its really not that well made, Its definitely "replica" quality and not close to 1:1. The cousteau strap for example is in a different league entirely. I'm looking forward to seeing the 1:1 version, I was even considering buying the real thing although it'll cost more than the watch is going on.

Many years ago (late 80's) I spent a few days helping out at the Rolex service centre here, I could cry when I remember the stuff that went in the bin back then.. dials that would be worth thousands now amongst other things. Sadly I wasn't allowed to take anything home. I spent most of the time sorting tiny envelopes of parts, mostly not even Rolex parts at that.. but it was fun anyway, and I got to watch the Rolex guys working. I got the "job" after visiting the service centre when I did a school project on the popularity of watches amongst the 80's yuppies (wow its while since I've used that word) back before the stock markets all crashed.

Thoughts on why no Cartier Roadster Chronograph?
Logan replied to TmeShare's topic in General Discussion
In accurate sub dial position has never stopped them in the past.. I don't understand why they don't just make a regular asian 7753 based version. Way more people will buy it than will notice the incorrect sub dial. -
The hand sizes differ between the Asian 28k 7750 (as used by pretty much all modern reps) and the genuine ETA 7750. I think its just the seconds and sub dials that are different. Do a forum search for more info, I sure The Zigmeister listed the exact sizes a while back. Other than that the movements are a straight swap.

How can I un-stick the crown on ETA 45mm UPO?
Logan replied to itreeman's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
When you removed the stem from the movement you used something other than a wide flat blade screw driver to push the release button, as a result its pushed too far into the movement and become jammed in place. To fix this requires stripping the keyless works from the front of the movement (under the dial) and re-assembling everything. Its fairly straight forward if you have some basic watch making experience but a tricky job if you've never taken anything this small apart before. Good luck! -
Nice work.. how was the genuine crown tube fitted? I was sure a few people posted recently that they don't fit. Did you use epoxy or similar?
-
Check out the RM11 Massa Chronograph.. the ultimate watch in my opinion. Its could be repped.. but the movement is pretty much the whole deal on Mille watches so I can't see how we'd ever be happy. I wish someone would try though.. I'm love to get a decent case to start with the build up my own pvd plated movement.

The original limited edition ceramic doppel was much nicer, it was a little smaller (44mm vs 46mm) and had a dark blue dial. Most importantly it had none of the tacky logo's all over it. The new one looks like a $1,000 dollar watch tops with all those movie logo's on it. Speaking of which I read somewhere that they used the movie logo not the real Tog Gun weapons school logo.. can anyone confirm or deny that??
-
Be careful how hard you press though.. those case back crystal are thin.. and they can break easily. There are proper case tools to fit these available quite cheaply from ebay or the dealers here.

One watch on your wrist is hardly going to attract any attention, but don't take a box of them along, even for your own use. Thats asking for trouble in any customs hall in any country.

Maybe I got lucky, but my 07 Cousteau from Angus is every bit what I'd expect from a "super rep". The finish is up there with the best 2-3 reps I own and that includes the legendary "closed factory" 2892 Omega 007 which I still believe is the best rep ever made. The inner bezel on mine is a bit jumpy but I expected that, that fact that it moves at all is pretty damm good on a replica. The time setting and dates are as good as any Asian 7750. and the rubber strap is as good as any genuine. The dial on mine has no specs or blemishes. The only complaint is the lume on the dial and hands is very weak. (although no different from 90% of other reps) If you're keen on this rep I'd go for it. Its a bloody awesome watch and while there may be problems with a few, its worth risk in my opinion.
-
Its a property of the UV paint. It glows as a result of primarily UV exposure rather than visible light. Sunlight does a great job of charging the lume, as it sunlight contains a lot of UV light. Wear a rep in a night club with a UV light and you'll be able to read it from across the room.

I'm lucky to be in position where I could afford a reasonable collection of genuines if I wanted them. But I'm unlikely to actually buy one again, the reason? I brought a genuine Rolex GMT Master a while back (second hand thankfully). Every-time I looked at the thing on my wrist it made me feel like a sucker for blowing so much money on something so stupidly overpriced due only to its brand name.

There are two probably causes for this, The most likely is the hair spring is tangled as a result of a sharp movement or impact. To fix this open the watch and gently (very gently) touch the hair spring with tweezer tips which will usually cause it to pop back into position. Don't do this yourself unless you know at least a little about what you're doing Its also possible that the watch has been magnetized, fixing that will require a watchmaker with a demagnetizer, which most will have. There are some other possible causes but those are the most likely.

Hublot: New Big Bang and 'in house' movement released
Logan replied to geo1nah2a's topic in Other Brands Area
For that kind of money you have a whole list of excellent watches to choose from, and with a whole load more horological heritage and significance than a 7750 based Hublot. The Big Bang would be quite a cool watch for $2500 but its one of the biggest rip offs in the industry at $26k. -
He's a long term member of the replica forums going back quite a few years. Yes he does post quite regularly. He has a link in his forum signature to the guide so I'm sure he won't mind his user names being posted. He's Audemarsdan here and Audemarsfan on replica collector. I'm not sure about the other boards.

wrapped and filled.. is all nonsense, there is electroplated and "solid 14ct" which is probably 9ct really, and thats all. remember these are replicas, and basic economics means that the less gold they use the more money they make. And its not like the manufacturers provide a return or warranty service. If you're buying for a collection then plated is fine as you probably won't wear it enough to damage the plating, but as a gift for someone who's going to wear it full time you're far safer to go stainless steel.

Just did a quick side by side with my 7753 model. This one has the small date, and its the older model swiss 7750 with fewer jewels too. My pick is its a 7750, not 7753. Its junk compared to what you can buy here

There are some close ups that were posted on timezone of the actual watch after the movie was made. I will try to find them.

I think I may have found a donor for personal ROO project!
Logan replied to anton's topic in Other Brands Area
the deep set date does suggest a modular chrono.. but I have no specific knowledge of what. It looks like a model thats a few years old, it could possibly be quartz of course.
