  1. I don't own 44 mm sandwich dials so I am guessing but. Dial, underdial or both may be thinner. Certainly the case on the Fiddy. Presumably the movement is in the same place in a case on a better rep (overall height and crown positioning)and it is the same height movement. The other possibilities are thinner crystal soaking up less rehaut on the rep, overall bezel height and internal height (think of it as visual carve out in the bezel).
  2. With you on that one. That Ubi flat top 3 brings a smile to my face when the 3 comes up as well. But don't forget the 6's or the 4's.
  3. Yeah, it was $40 bucks (actually $140 because I broke a gen screw driver getting the strap pin out of the lug - those gosh darn gen cases ).
  4. I have been wearing it all day trying to figure this one out. The summer shorts concept is an interesting one. I hate to say it but I think I am one of those can't get out of the blacks, browns and tans. I am also wondering if the white dial makes it worse.
  5. Came back to look again. Blown away.
  6. Exactly, one guy loving it and the other hating it. One of those C series for $40 now figure out if you like it later. Curious to hear other comments.
  7. Trying out cheap pick up strap on ebay:
  8. I have been looking for a strap to go with jeans (blue suit??). It is OEM but I picked it up cheaply on Fleabay so feel free to express your real opinion. I am on the fence on this one. Apologies for the crappy pics but at home with phone only
  9. Absolutely stunning collection. Wow! Wear them well.
  10. Yeah, seen that movie before. I hope I am wrong though.
  11. The mystery to me is whether he ever made them (other than the 2 he kept for himself in ti) or did he simply piss away the $50 - $100k he took in as deposits. It is amazing to me that he is still welcomed at risti. For all the club mentality over there they do nothing to protect their members from other club members. But you can't sell parts.
  12. H- Well that is one way to bump up your question....quote yourself.
  13. I come out where many others do. If you actually own gen panerai your watch was most likely built by Vendome or Richemont. Further I do think that as many folks have said that approach implies you will never touch anything German again - irrespective of the fact that many of the german people and their corporations have gone to great lengths to try and atone for a dark past. As Wolf said up above, to this day most taxis in Israel are Mercedes sold at very discounted rates to show goodwill to Israel for past atrocities. I do understand the vintage comment. A good portion of those watches were built at a very dark time in Italy's history. Certainly the case of a number of the 3646's. My personal favorites the 6152's were actually built in the 60's. But I have thought long and hard about what I would wear and I must say that I would never glorify the era wearing a piece which is actually inscribed with Kampfschwimmer type writing. To me that is akin to wearing true Nazi memorabilia or even worse in the case of homage watches going to the trouble to creat Nazi memorabilia. My 2 cents.
  14. Look on risti - the Kevin/BigB Ammo strap. He used to be in a joint venture with Brad at watches24seven before they parted ways. He was getting $300 for his straps new.
  15. We all have long email histories with him so he is getting the emails. He strings everyone along. As you say he is just too beloved at Risti as everyone wants his straps. Heck the last time he went broke a Thai risti took him in and let him set up shop in Thailand to sell straps to Asian customers.
  16. Great trivia question. Here is what I know. People can add what they know. 1st Edition - F Series (162). Most diminuitive, no quick release tabs and all polished. 2nd Edition - G - I (??) The standard one we are all aware of (brushed or polished) with the 2 quick release tabs. 3rd Edition - J - ?? Same as 2nd but they upgraded the finish on the inside of the buckle tab with the perlage. We were all joking about it as a lame attempt to slow down reps. What else is there?
  17. I am with Pete. It isn't that simple. I can tell you from years ago that the 581 did not fit and I can't remember on the 492. But there are different variants. Both the 581 and 492 originally related to Eddie's first three generations of fidy cases which were vastly inferior to the legendary fourth generation. It is surprising no one has ever bribed Davidsen to run a different set of numbers. I though I had heard he was running different serial numbers for the 24 and 25 in which case he might be open minded to doing it.
  18. Looks great. With all the pics from folks I am beginning to get a sense just how good these watches are. Wear this one well.
  19. I agree. But I may just reach out to him again for the heck of it. Hey, you never know.
  20. I have no urge to punch him. I would simply like the 3646 case or my money back. But the truth is that I have since had a proper case made out of age appropriate steel and picked up a proper radium dial so I guess I would prefer my money back. Fat chance of that happening. I would put a lien on his house except he doesn't own one. It does raise an interesting point though. Is it about time to make the appropriate post on Risti asking the same question RMC did here?
