  1. I hope you are right but I suspect "perfect" is relative. You have to post some pictures for the Rolex fans to weigh in.
  2. Could it be white gold? Just kidding. Sorry to hear. At least $90 is better than $900.
  3. I have had good luck with the ones which don't use the chrono function. All of mine with the chrono function almost immediately suffered sub-dial hand slippage or other maladies.
  4. Mark- I knew that would get you going. The ZZR1100 is in the shop for a tune up. Choose you're poison. Randy- Somehow I knew that WM would not get by you. Now I am just waiting for you know who and the movement.
  5. Beautiful movement. Clearly not a swim watch now.
  6. A wonderful Sunday with some of the guys. Warm weather,Wimbledon, World cup, etc. The morning started with a ride on the old bike. Mr. 187 came with me and neither the bike nor the 187 that kept me company shed any parts. A good day. Then it was time to do the ceremonial cleaning and what better way to do it than watching the World Cup with a couple of friends. Congratulations to the Italian fans and my condolences to the French ones. But I did want some Company so I let Mr 187 and Mr 196 hang out with their big brother - Mr tachymetre (or was that Tachymeter ): With the bike completely cleaned we all decided we needed to cool off. So we went for a swim. And finally Mr VC started complaining about heat so he had to come too: We won't get into the messy barbecue after the swim. The next morning Mr 187 and Mr 196 and some of their brethren started complaining that they needed a bath so they got theirs yesterday. In spite of the poor pictures I hope you enjoyed my Sunday vignette.
  7. I am too lazy to look but I am fairly sure that until this year all chronos with that bezel, be it steel or precious metal had the "re" spelling. I hadn't even noticed that they changed the spelling on the 250 and 251. You don't suppose we can find a long loop on the implications of changing the spelling on one of the purist forums.
  8. Once again, nice shots. I hadn't realized how different the bezel markers were on the 194 or that they extended over the side of the bezel. Do you think the manufacturers can avoid butchering this?
  9. I suspect that the majority of folks who posted on the aforementoned loop have bought more since.
  10. Actually Honpo's version is the one with double seals. I have been swimming with mine since day one. I just make sure I screw down the pusher locks first. But I am not suggesting anyone else do it. My two swim watches this Summer are the 187 and the new VC overseas with screwdown crown.
  11. For those who care you should send it to Finepics. He is doing a pair of 196/188 crystals for me as we speak. Good quality AR coat and reasonable price. I do have to say that the overpriced first version of the 187 does have a kick ass ar coat.
  12. Define Naughty Boy. :jerry:
  13. Could it relate to the fighting knives.
  14. Thanks for all the hard work. In truth I had completely forgotten about the links section and had been recreating the work every time I was looking to study a rep.
  15. Interestingly my two most recent CDG Unitas movements (231 and 217) both came with whta looked like a recessed cannon pinion but the extended cannon pinion was in fact already installed. They simply needed a little shaving of the hands to reveal it.
  16. Blancpain and IWC both fall into that category of fabulous watchmakers without the noise of super slick marketing, I do have to say that the artticle is of course a little self-serving as I did not see Patek or Vacheron dropping their mechanical movements at that time. AP though was one of the first to jump on that quartz bandwagon. But if you are going to own a quartz it has to be a Seiko. They invented it and perfected it.
  17. Gen hands are available in both lume (63) and Tritium (other one) but they are approximately $200 from Michael at Adam-Co on ebay. He is not currently listing them but email him. I know he has them in stock. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...%3AIT&rd=1b I ultimately chose lume versus t swiss t but he has both. Then again a dealer or davidsen may have them for a fraction of the price. I saw Davidsen was selling this model and he usually has extra hands,
  18. The 2893 movement is still available in existing reps. The sense is that the factories still have inventory of the watches but the movements are now difficult for the factories to get. So there is concern that there may not be future runs of existing or new models with the 2893 GMT movement. Time will tell.
  19. Unfortunately that rings true as one of the reasons cited for the inability to get 7753 datewheels is that ETA is going to stop selling 7753 movements to non-branded watches and is slowing down parts production. The movements appear to be readily available for now.
  20. Jonathan - You're right. So much for that idea. Well, I wonder if I could transplant the PR gearing from the rep onto a 7750 or simply source the PR parts for a 7750 and swap the whole thing. Hope springs eternal.
  21. Life is good here and we all know why. Big thumbs up and lotta love (in a platonic manner, of course) to the crew running this wacky ship.
