  1. So sorry to hear it. The original version is bolted on. Then again you at least have a competent movement.
  2. This looks like my childhood go kart with the cockpit covered to protect it from rain. Hell, I guess I thought of this one 35 years ago. And I didn't go to design school.
  3. IMHO, you have to have the car to go with it or you are talking the talk but not walking the walk.
  4. The 187 is not an everyday wearer. But it is a fabulous "can't be missed" watch. Panerai knowledgeable people give approving looks for my high end reps and gens but the 187 evokes comments from folks who have no idea what it is. IMHO, if you are only contemplating 1-3 PAM's this is not the one to buy. But if you own 8-10 and can handle the size it is a must have in some form. I love the look of the 212 but for my everyday life an automatic without a date is silly. For my money the must haves are the 7753 Daylights and the 2893 GMT's. They get the most wrist time on my wrist.
  5. Ken's response to Eric is consistent with what he has previously said. I asked him 2-3 months ago (before buying the 7750 version) whether they would do a 7753 version. He said they did not know at that time but they would decide at the beginning of the Summer.
  6. You would think they could have encrusted the crown as well. I do prefer it to a Jacob the jeweler watch though.
  7. If the bezel markers are really glued instead of screwed on in this version that is a huge downside.
  8. The date pusher on the 187 from Watchonpo is a real pusher. It is just locked in place by the spacer as were the original 7750 196's. It should be fine on that issue. As I read further postings I get the sense that we will not know whether this project will happen until the price shows up and people are either willing or unwilling to confirm orders based on it. I do hope this project happens. IMHO, the original movement being added to the Daylight line made it a very different watch and well worth the money. My 7753 Daylights are lifetime watches. My fingers are crossed.
  9. Nice review V. My takeaway (in summary): - Better movement (huge improvement) - Same case - No AR (further from gen) - Raised relief HE valve (further from gen) - Skinny date font (further from gen) - Pushers maybe shorter (Watchonpo's are too long) (closer to gen) - Brushed buckle (closer to gen) IMHO, those who waited to buy are the smart ones. But I am still happy as I like the AR and have been wearing mine on and off for two-three months. This way I won't feel so bad when the 7753 comes out and I am psycho enough to buy it.
  10. Welcome back. You have been missed.
  11. Getting excited on these datewheels. Just found out my PVD case is on the way back from Palp. With the cyclops in hand and a new Palp PVD crown perfection is on the way.
  12. Although mine is not the EL version, it would not surprise me if the subdial hands need realignment. That is a common issue with the 7750 movements. Very nice and half the price.
  13. I had one but had to send it back for movement problem, however it is a great watch and the date magnification is fantastic. I obvioulsy don't have it in front of me but I did not notice any white in the date window. Someone else who has one will have to comment.
  14. Is it the dollar or the pound that is bouncing? My dollars keep on shrinking and my pounds keep on growing. Oh, we are talking about money. Congrats on the soccer. Oops. Strike that. My condolences. Shows how much I know about soccer.
  15. Questionable on the AR as well. But the movement spacer and movement itself are a huge improvement. In general I would say that those who waited (read - not me) are better off. Then again, I have been wearing mine for a couple of months. Oh well, one of these days I will learn.
  16. I think you mean best part. Looks great. Enjoy it.
  17. I am betting it will not be long before you cannot get 7753 anything (except in maybe a Chinese version). By the way I had heard from a dealer who is in contact with the factory that the minimum was 25 but it would guarantee a <$800 price tag with little to no profit for the dealer. And yes, I and I suspect a number of other folks are willing to put up a 50% deposit. If it is the same dealer I have been speaking to I would put the full amount down (assuming Watchonpo case).
  18. Don't have a picture yet but I am wearing the new VC overseas and it is truly fantastic for those non-PAM, Rolex days.
  19. Great site. This is the basic reference page for any Pamaholic. It gets you started on you're research. Then you go to Panerai.com, Paneristi, Ebay...
  20. Actually I thought the purpose of this forum, as far as protecting folks, related more to helping members avoid scammers within the rep world - not idiots from buying reps as gens. I have the ultimate respect for those who elect to call out scammers on Ebay but that is a personal choice - not the mission of the membership. In any case, putting a dealer's wares out on a gen forum is just silly. If you are determined to do this next time save the picture on you're computer and then post it. Posts of the sort on Timezone are never going to hurt the manufacturer but it can hurt the dealer.
  21. One of the ways to ensure success is to request significant deposits once you know it is doable and have a price. That is how there was comfort in proceeding ahead with the cyclops project. This is another project where not a lot (read as any) money is going to be made and so anyone investing in the run is going to need to know that the buyers are really there. For all those who are seriously interested though you should figure on spending at least in the $700 plus range. I have seen the theoretical pricing from the manufacturer. A little birdy (read as the only supplier who has previously been able to get certain parts for the 7753) can no longer get them and has said that ETA actually plans to stop (if it hasn't already) making 7753 movements. I don't know if that is completely or for generic purposes. ETA will continue to make the 7750 version though. Chronus- I tried to organize this project earlier with a dealer and so if the 7753 movements are actually available I have several other folks from here who are money good as well.
  22. Relax. World cup time and England is still in it.
