  1. Ken- I was in Australia last year in Perth and the mining territories for several days. Hoping to get there this year as well. I will let you know. It is frustrating because I have some business over there this year but have not yet figured out how to finagle a trip out of it. Now I just have to figure out where everything is over there. Australia is one huge country. By the way if you want to see a frightening Aussie horror movie check out Wolf Creek. Not for the week of stomach though.
  2. I suspect the two together with a shot of jack makes for a fabulous cocktail. All you're troubles go away. Isn't Midol blue as well though.
  3. I have had the 187 for a couple of months now. I would definitely go for the 194 in titanium as well. These huge watches make a fabulous statement.
  4. Go out and buy a cheap in-line 4 tourer first. Great learning bike and if you dump it you won't sweat it. Whatever you do, always wear a helmet and leathers (at least Kevlar coated jeans in the case of pants). I will testify, Road Rash sucks. With full leathers on I bounced up off the tarmac with nary a scratch after a 70-80 mph spill. The spill I took, without a leather jacket, at 25 miles an hour after being bumped by a car left road rash which bothered me for weeks. No broken bones though.
  5. Confluence of events caused me to get into reps. Initially, I was googling for a gen of a watch and what came up was just as many reps as gens. On the third or fourth page I found TRC. TRC led to RWG and the rest was history. I got lucky though as my first rep was a 183G from Eddie. Shortly before finding the forums another of my gens had crapped out and the service charges were close to $1,000. The good news about original movement gens is that they are cool. THe bead news is that when they break the AD's take complete advantage of you. That left a bitter taste in my mouth. In a year I have spent the equivalent of a top of the line gen and have 20 or so ETA or original movement watches with all available mods. No looking back.
  6. I am with Ken- First concert, age 4 Boston Symphony Orchestra. Rock concert - either Aerosmith or Boston in the mid 70's.
  7. As best as I can remember: USA Canada Argentina Brazil Chile Columbia Guatemala Mexico Peru UK Austria Belgium Scotland France Germany Greece Italy Luxemburg Netherlands Spain Russia Israel Australia Japan Singapore Phillipines Are these countries? Antigua Anguilla St Barts Barbados Jamaica Bahamas I actually focus on where I don't want to visit. Won't get into that though.
  8. And I thought the gold daytona for $3.500 was kind of steep.
  9. Thanks for the explanation. I do hope you choose to ignore Elliot. In you're shoes I would take comfort in knowing that you are respected and loved by such a significant portion of the contributing members. IMHO, whenever threatening is involved, once confirmed by Mods, that party should be banned. I hope you will not only stick around but will continue to be an active participant.
  10. I have asked Ken about other items from Watchonpo and he usually can get them.
  11. I come at reps from the other angle. Over the years I have bought AP, Breguet, Cartier, RGM, Rolex and Vacheron gens for me or my wife. I have not had good experiences with them. The crowning moments were when my AP Royal Oak "leaked' shortly after purchase and the AD claimed I must have left the crown open (bear in mind that the movement doesn't function if the crown is left open) and informed me a new movement would be $1500-2,000 and when my wife brought in her gold marine for service (it was keeping crappy time). The Breguet store took advantage of my unsupecting wife and when I went to pick it up I found that they had convinced her that the watch needed a repolishing (18k gold?) and the bill topped well over a $1,000. On the other hand, reps have worked out very well for me so far. I have tended to stick to ETA based watches, MBW's, Original movement PAM's, etc. Because they are so much less than the gen and we all know the quality control is spotty at best, I have always immediately shipped my better reps to Ziggy for service. So far they have functioned far more accurately than my gens. They plain old keep better time. Of the 25 or so I have bought, I have had to return two. In fairness, none are more than 18 months old. IMHO, the best part of rep collecting is that it requires the acquisition of better general horological knowledge, research, forethought and "hunting'. That is the fun part (both the ups and downs). I will buy gens but, knowing what I do now, only original movement unique watches.
  12. Veni- I hope you're leaving relates to good things and not the crap I have recently read about here. In any case, I do hope you're leave is short. You will be sorely missed by me and many other loyal members. All the best and cheers to you. Selfishly speaking, I am still dying to get my hands on that croc strap.
  13. Elazarus- On the face of it, this seems like a fairly crass request.
  14. TJ- Very well put. I had never thought about it but my watch vocabulary and general knowledge of who makes what and the movement therein has definitely increased exponentially. Before I came here the only gens I knew anything about were AP, PAM, Breguet and Vacheron (and even within that limited range I had no concept of the underlying movement). Hooray for RWG!
  15. Hey Mark- I bet it never comes off you're wrist. That particular watch is addictive.
  16. Virtually no one has PAM dials. The price we pay for 220 different models with not particularly many copies of each model. That is part of the whole "limited edition" mentality of Panerai. When they do come up they are usually ridiculously priced.
  17. I would guess closer to $200 but I would love to be wrong.
  18. My guiding principle would be to fess up if asked. No one has ever asked. Then again I am older with all the trappings which would imply I can afford whatever I am wearing. Then again, I have never worn my Patek Sky Moon out. The people who know I adamantly collect reps think I am nuts though (wife included).
  19. A great addition. This forum is progressing in leaps and bounds.
  20. Ken- Holy cow! You don't miss a thing. The perfect mod. Mark- Welcome to the club. Enjoy it.
  21. Frankt- You are so right. I was so busy snickering at the description that I didn't even notice he has the wrong watch. Unless, of course, it is the limited edition 005 Logo in titanium and he doesn't know what he is selling. Kaiowas- Kidding, just kidding. Stay away from that one, whatever it really is.
  22. $5 says that Doctor went and looked it up the last time he saw you with it. He knows exactly what it is worth (if it were real of course).
