  1. Very nice with that bracelet. I have always felt that a gen bracelet makes a huge difference. wear it well.
  2. And lest we not forget the first cyclops project - "the watchmaster cyclops" quarterbacked by Ssurfer and Finepics and unfortunately sponsored by me. There are still a bunch sitting with Ziggy.
  3. Wow, absolutely great review. Thanks so much. It is also always interesting to see what jumps out at people. For me it is the date section (deeper and darker font) and the hand tubes - but that is me. The whole color difference would slip right by me unless I had a gen sitting next to it.
  4. Whatever you do buy shop carefully to avoid downside if you ever want to sell. And as folks have said in terms of resaleability focus on the more classic models.
  5. As we can see from the posts each person has to decide what photos (if any) satisfy the buyers curiosity. The dealer can decide whether he wants to comply or take a pass on the sale. I was never focused on QC pics until I found out that these dealers sell hundreds of any particular model and became concerned that without QC pics you have no certainty that anyone ever looked at your watch before it went out. I will never know but at least I know that if someone takes a couple of pics that someone is actually looking at the watch on their end as well as me. By the way on the "watch on timer" photos since a timer only checks a watch in one or a few positions (versus real life) I view that pic only useful to the extent that something is way off.
  6. The early stuff gets all the press due to the rarity and the use of tritium. I too had noticed the differences in earlier lume dials but never got that excited because the whole process on the non-sandwich dials is silk screening so the result is from machine settings and lume mix. Click a setting (i.e. adjust the spray pressure, material content (bonding agent) and quantity) and you can vary the thickness or height as you want. Back to the point at hand, gorgeous watch.
  7. The important thing is that whether it is two or six weeks in my experience he does always come through and the product is excellent.
  8. I wouldn't hold my breath for standardization. Each person has to decide what is an acceptable level of QC pics. if you are not happy with what the dealer sent than just ask for whatever else you want. I have found that the pics varied even from the same dealer. And on the one or two occasions where I didn't have the pic I was looking for the dealer did supply it albeit a couple of days later.
  9. One step at a time. I just hope they got the first one right. Having a movement which allows for proper crown height and using a gen dial without ripping off the feet for the basic sub is priceless. I wonder if we are going to see a big rise in price for sub dials.
  10. I will let someone more qualified than me weigh in but I don't think it is a particularly easy fix as the new movement is a base movement + module so it is going to gave different overall height.
  11. If the two of you agreed a price, you had already paid all the money and he didn't repost all the watches than unfortunately I would guess he got a better offer on at least one. Yes, it is great you didn't lose your money but if you two were in agreement on all points and the money was sent it is still kind of crappy. You are the bigger person for not making a stink but still it is poor "sportsmanship".
  12. The extra jewel can be very helpful - provided all the parts around it are appropriately oiled and the movement is clean of debris. That is always the mystery question. Although I would prefer the extra jewel it wouldn't stop me from buying an earlier model I particularly wanted.
  13. Very cool piece. I am a fan of fantasy models as well. My own favorite piece is a fantasy piece based on the Chronopassion case. So wear that one well.
  14. In my experience - on the short end 3 weeks (if he has the hide in stock) but it can take 3 months. But he will typically let you know before you make the order - if you ask.
  15. You may be right that I am being harsh. The PR function is not one that anyone will notice. Back when the first version PR came out with the hobnail dial I bought one and the button on the side drove me nuts. It is long gone. So I suppose a frozen hand with no button is an improvement. I purposely satisfied my PAM power reserve urge with 27's and 28's. However as you know they are much more expensive watches.due to the ETA 2892-A2 movement. PAM is a relatively simple brand with many great reps at reasonable prices and with proper functionality. Or put differently if I were spending $300 for a PAM the last one I would buy is the one that doesn't work properly.
  16. Welcome to the big time. Seriously, gorgeous stuff. Wear them well.
  17. No comments because it is a faux power reserve. There are so many good and fully functional PAM's why waste time or money on this one. IMHO, faux functionality only belongs in a $50 Canal Street rep.
  18. it is not that it flys off but rather that once I have unscrewed both sides with a pair of screwdrivers I can not tell which side is the cap only rather than the remainder of the screw. and when you are trying to pry out one side (since the pin sits well within the strap) there is a real chance that tiny pin goes flying. it certainly isn't impossible but proceed carefully. if you lose it it is a bugger to find.
  19. Four meetings over 2 days with executives and bankers from 3 continents. Here is what I saw: 3 Pateks, 4 Panerai, 2 IWC's and 4 Rolexes - all gen. 1 gold Hublot BB - fake. It was on a waiter's wrist at an expensive restaurant for lunch. Seriously.
  20. So the simple answer to how to franken any AP is go find a gen dial (that RB II will be $2000 easy) and then you can contemplate moving forward. Otherwise relume your rep, pick up a better strap if so inclined and call it a day.
  21. Here are my thoughts but people should feel to correct them: Gen movement requires gen dial due to different placement of sub-dials. You may or may not need gen inner tachy ring (never tried seconds at 12 case with rep tachy ring and gen dial). If using gen tachy ring you will need to enlarge inside of the bezel but also reduce height sice gen tachy ring is shorter and wider. Original hands can be used with substantial rework. Rep chrono pushers can be used with the gen movement. The case will also require plugging and then redrilling the crown tube hole. And you will certainly need a new movement ring. If you are not a skilled modder/watchsmith you will need to find one. But your immediate issue will be finding a gen dial to go with the LWO movement.
  22. Well your nails are impeccable. Seriously, you can certainly change your own strap but make sure you do it over a towel or soft surface. That little screw-on cap on one side pn the strap pin can go flying and it is impossible to find. Just go slow with a pair of screwdrivers.
