  1. Well the latest Goldman Sachs bonuses beat last years.
  2. There's a luthier in the Bay area by the name of Mike DaSilva, he offers a one week workshop in which you design and build a ukulele. My teacher and I are thinking of doing this sometime. The workshop alone costs about $1000, but what you get out of it...priceless.
  3. That spider you whacked? It was one of the legendary Thai Whispering spiders, if you had let it live it would have revealed to you the TRUE, ultimate source of MBW watches. Too bad.
  4. Ahem....I've met him. For the last five years myself and four other fanatics have been taking uke lessons from a wonderful hawaiian lady in her home. A few years ago we were all at the Indy Uke Festival and Jake made a surprise appearance at a fundraising concert for the local school kids uke program. My uke teacher knows Jake, he asked her to dance hula at one of his concerts. So she ran into him at Indy and introduced us to him. Of course we were all tongue tied. He is the nicest, humblest, most approachable person, considering what a genius he is.
  5. Hang in there Rob. Better days are on the way. And this place is amazing, every time I log on I see more and more POTR auctions, I'm so glad to be a part of this forum.
  6. OK, it sounds like everything will end up well for you, PT is one of the best. Still, I would not send him cash again. I've never heard of a dealer asking fro cash through mail. In the future ask for other pay instructions.
  7. You actually put cash into an envelope? Why didn't you use wire transfer?
  8. Yep! The Tourneau saleslady just basically re-confirmed my devotion to buying nice reps.
  9. Yep, not a good idea. Must have been a bit awkward. I live in Chicago and a few months ago I was in Tourneau scoping out the Rolex DJs, I'm thinking of getting a custom one from Ruby. When I go to Tourneau the only watch I wear is my gen Ulysse Nardin 1846 chronometer, they're always impressed and show me anything I want. So I'm in there looking at Rollies and the saleslady launches into this spiel about how good the Folex reps are and how I should only buy from authorized AD, paying full MSRP of course, and not trust anyone else. I played along, inwardly chuckling the whole time.
  10. I'm very close to ordering a custom DJ from Ruby, and I've decided to go with a smooth bezel. The fluted one is too busy and distracting to me, and a bit old fashioned. The smooth bezel gives this model a fresh, clean updated look.
  11. Yep, my problem is that I have very long arms and a low waist, sleeves are always too short, when I bend my arms they pull up and are taut, drives me nuts. I try a fitted coat on at Macy's, the waistline is too high and looks bad. Thing that kills me is that there is a lot more petite off the rack available than tall.
  12. I just wanted to add, as a woman, i've always had clothes fitting problems. I'm 5' 10", 153 lbs. and have long arms and a low waist. I often have to buy "tall womens" clothing, of which there is a very paltry selection in terms of color and conservative design. The winter in Chicago was very long, cold, and snowy and I spent many hours looking for a new coat. I gave up and wore my 4 year old shlumpy down coat, I am so sick of it, I will ceremonially burn it. My dream is to have a bespoke cashmere coat made just for me. Unfortunately, I take public transit to work every day and that coat would be just too nice.
  13. What an interesting discussion, I love this place.
  14. OK, great! What else? Any rumors about improved Daytona movement?
  15. Oooh...nice! Love the mesh strap too. Don't flame me but I prefer this over vintage SD. But, 36mm? A bit small, no?
  16. For Christ's sake, I wish the factories would come out with some really good new reps so we'd have something else to talk about and dissect to shreds, this is what happens when people are bored. When is that Big Pilot going to come out anyway? This post CNY has been extremely disappointing so far. As for TTK, things will settle down and he'll be back.
  17. Paging Dr. Narikaa...
  18. Anyway, to get back to the OP's comment, I'm not sure what movement you get from Paul for $118. This may be the same Yachtmaster II you can get on cqout.com in all variations for $85. Just look for a dealer with lots of good feedback.
  19. Paul is selling this for $108, so I dunno, can't see it having a complicated movement. Technically the gen is pretty cool, what it can do, but the lack of finesse in the design is just stunning, how could they come up with something like this?
  20. very nice, and a great detailed review. Custom order?
  21. Whew, that was tough to read. My GF is in the med biz, I've heard all the stories. I know you realize this but you can't go on drinking & drugging like this, you'll end up without a job or a hsopital that will take you. Then what. We'll be holding steady for you, anytime you need it.
  22. Welcome and best of luck in your endeavor.
  23. Ah yes, it was King Jubilee. I bought some very nice Inova flashlights from him.
  24. A long time ago there was a member who made custom wooden pens but I'll be darned if I remember his screen name, he's long gone at any rate.
