  1. I believe a good method, though tedious, is an oiler and a high power loupe. Lots of little dots equals high dpi and good look - that's for dials. Hands require a hardish small tube to slide along underside of hand. Consistency of lume is critical here. Practice makes...ok. Good genes/steady hands makes perfect.
  2. It is an excellent logo. You should get some free watches for that.
  3. I am firmly in the less is more camp and the LW folks don't seem to grasp the concept of editing. Just not a fan of complicated looking things that do simple tasks. And for 12 large, I'm definitely on the hunt for something vintage and delicious that's only going up in value like a red Sub.
  4. I'm a little confused (well, I'm often a lot confused). I see it's mounted on box which may contain the fuel and their appears to be a fuel line going into the engine, but where's the spark coming from? We need a spark, no?
  5. Look out new york! Really like your vintage customization of the Deep Sea - perhaps I can see one in person when you come?
  6. Awesome trio, doc! Tell me - is it possible to get a Seawolf Avenger with the correct HEV valve at 10 any more? I keep looking for one and can't seem to find one. Are they unobtanium? BIG TIA if anyone can help me with this...
  7. I wanna hang out with you. Whenever you come to NYC, you've got a drink and a joint waiting for you.
  8. Once I decide to sell, I emotionally disconnect myself from the object - in this case watches. Sometimes we act irrationally in a deal because of emotional involvement. I've definitely shipped off some very rare and hard to find timepiece because I made a deal. In some cases I made a deal because someone reached out with an unsolicited offer. Once I make a deal, though, it's a deal. The time to waffle was during the negotiation. Stick to your terms so you don't feel bad when you ship the goods - you might just wish you didn't make the deal, and then make up some story to extricate yourself. The road to hell is often paved with good intentions. Glad you simply moved on despite feeling gutted about it. Think of it this way - maybe you won in the end. You just won't get to know what the fates had in mind, unless this was it. Stay the course, L8terz - we're not all built the same.
  9. Thanks for that post! Just incredible stuff! Any interest in a 40 year old intern that can cook really well? Can I bring my wife and kid too?
  10. Why even start a topic like this? I appreciate the behind-the-scenes solution sentiment, but then to post about it? What a tease! Inquiring minds want to know.
  11. Umm, hard to follow, for sure, but I think Buyer #1 just got 'gazumped'. Meaning he got outbid, after the close of the auction, which makes it dirty pool. Seller saw an opportunity when buyer #2 let him know it was worth more. Then seller arranged for Buyer #2 to get it, thus in the parlance of the real estate biz, gazumping buyer number 1, who'd not paid for it. Hard to discern whether buyer #2 knew the seller was effectively nullifying the auction results for nefarious reasons. If buyer #2 knew he was stealing buyer #1's 'deal', then it's a bit shady, for sure. Hardly worth all the hand-wringing, though. What goes around definitely comes around...eventually.
  12. Those GMTs are gorgeous, Freddy! Just fabulous. I'm wearing the only watch I'm ever going to wear, ever again. EVER.
  13. Well, Zeleni, if you must know...A FOOKING LOT! I was able to buy a Tudor Tiger for $2,000, then the Yuki dial and handset was like $250 or something like that, and my watch guy went in for $140 to shave the dial and install everything, put new gaskets in and pressure test it. So call it $2400 - jeez looks like a lot when you actually write it out! BUT, it's a fully legit Tudor Tiger ready to return to stock, which I'll easily get all this back out of when and if I ever sell it. That all said, it's easily jumped to the top of my faves pile, passing a lot of sweet vintage divers on the way! PS: if you order anything from Yuki, be super specific and don't just go on their stock descriptions or item codes . In the end, Yuki does strive to please though. Thanks for all the raves, fellas.
  14. I overlooked the insurance aspect unique to reps. Good points. Moral of the story - pack these babies as best you can and hope for the best!
  15. So, a while ago I was asking around for help on dial fitment for old vs. newer Tudor Chronos because I wanted to stick a Yuki dial into my gen Tudor Tiger chrono. Several members gave me some good advice across several different forums and I opted to ship the watch and Yuki dial and hands off to someone who wouldn't completely [censored] the whole thing up and then stick all the parts in a little ziplock bag and put it next to all the other watches in ziplock bags waiting to be fixed/finished/sorted etc. I got this back the other day. Thanks to all who chimed in, kindly. The dial did in fact need .5mm shaved off to fit into the newer style case. Slight alignment issues exist at the outer track, but it's not terribly noticeable. While I save up for a gen one of these ($10,000 ?), this will keep me pretty happy. All works nicely and pressure tested. This guy will go into many water bodies over the summer. And the whole thing is completely reversible should my tastes change down the road or I want to sell it as all original (with a bonus MC facelift!). In the future, I might be inclined to build an entire Yuki version with the fixed bezel, but I really wanted the rotating bezel and he does not make that case, unfortunately. The blue version he has is pretty sick. Hope you enjoy the pics as much as I'm enjoying this sucker!
  16. Really? All damage and risk is on the buyer? Is that just for Reps cuz of their dubious workings to begin with? I sell lots of gen watches on various forums and I guarantee my goods to arrive in as described condition - 100% my responsibility. The money didn't get to my account broken! I understand reps can be unpredictable this way, but of all the reps I've sold, if any one showed up DOA, I'd offer a full refund. Am I crazy? Customs risks are definitely something different altogether. Glad this got worked out and Nikki did an honorable thing. His reputation further galvanized.
  17. Hey Marty - the watch is very handsome, no doubt. Without feeling attacked, cuz I'm not trying to crap, can you justify the cost of this piece? Seems pricey for what you get, though it does come with a bunch of kit, no? Any insights would be appreciated. chris
  18. Many thanks for the kind reply, JMB! I'm really hoping that this suckers gonna drop right in...but if not, that's what sandpaper is for, right? Now if I wasn't so worried about pulling chrono hands... chris
  19. Hey JMB - perhaps your Tudor Chrono ownership suggests you know a thing or two about these guys! You DO take things apart, no? My question: do the Yuki 7750 dials fit into the Tiger cases without modification? I know the Yuki dials are 29.5mm across, but I do not know the size of the modern Tudor chrono dials and if they vary between the big block and Tiger cases. Any help would be greatly appreciated - even though I've already bought the Tiger and the dial is on the way . TIA chris
  20. NYC "watchmakers" are more often than not, butchers, who have ZERO appreciation for your watch - especially vintage. Trust me, I know from experience. I wish I could give you a name of a competent, McGuyver-esque NYC watchman, but I can't. And I've been collecting in NYC for 15 years. Let me know when you find him! (or her!).
  21. Wonder Twin powers ACTIVATE! Form of an ice caliper! Form of and Eagle! You guys are funny. But seriously, the date window is a great way to check the size! Gotta go to Yuki's site, stat!!!
  22. Yup, Tee-Jay - a little dial shaving should be no big deal, right? (famous last words!). I'm not feeling to confident about this - wish I could find out the dial size on the Tudor Tiger chronos...
  23. Yeah. I really do like the fat-cased pre-tiger, auto chronotime beauties, but they're always so expensive. There's a Tiger model with the rotating bezel for sale right now for very reasonable money, hence my urge to do the old-school monte-carlo-era early chrono-time homage by adding the Yuki dial. In my delusional watch fantasy world, the Yuki dial just popped in and the hands popped on and off I was, diving head long into watch nirvana. I can't even find the measurement of the Tiger's dial. The Yuki dial is 29.5mm with feet at 3pm and 34 minutes. Hmmm. Wish I knew more about the parts on these Tooters.
  24. Hey thanks for the quickie Ubi! ;-). My thinking was to use a 79270P case & movement and put the Yuki McJuki dial up in that sucker and have the old style auto tudor chrono with the desirable (to me) rotating bezel. Shaving one down doesn't sound like fun, though. I'd just make one from scratch from yuki, but he doesn't make the case with the rotating bezel. Kind of a deal breaker for me. Oh well. (should i give up?)
