Tudor 79090 from 1994: a complete set!

Dear all,

Here is my pictorial of another gen I recently acquired.

In fact it arrived in the same package as the 1680 from the same provider.

As you can see from the picture above, this 79090 was purchased on april 30th of 1994 at Wempe Stuttgart.

The watch set is more than complete: a receipt from Wempe (in Deutch Marks), the Wempe waranty card in the format of a credit card, a Wempe booklet, the Tudor papers, the Tudor box and outer carton box.

:omg:

Tudor 79090 from 1994

I was in NYC once and wore Jetson’s one for an evening.

The triangled hour markers at 6 and 9 o’clock made me like this watch a lot.

You know, it was different from my boaring Rolex.

The idea though was to find a true 100% Tudor and not a Tudex or a Rolor.

I was very lucky as this one is a Tudor with the exception of the crown of course!

:yahoo:

The bracelet

It’s a 9315 (folded links) with 380B endlinks.

Tudor79090From1994_800_0001B.jpg

The bracelet is in very good state with minimum stretch for such an old folded links one.

In my opinion, what makes a Tudor is the fact that the clasp is Tudor and not Rolex.

I know, it might sound weird coming from a Rolex fan.

:partytime:

The watch

Another great find about this one is that it has never been polished.

It’s carrying those signs of history that some of us are desperatly looking for.

:kicking:

The only part which has been polished, and very heavily, is the crystal.

I will do this to my frankens too.

It’s so sexy!

I never thought about doing this before

Not sure you can see the effect of the polishing on the crystal but, trust me, it gives a lot of character to the watch.

Conclusion

Well, I sincerely think it’s a great find.

A full original Tudor which has never been serviced nor polished is rare these days.

(For 79090, but other models too!)

Hope you like it.

Thanks for reading.

Cheers

Stephane

Stephane.....great find!!! It looks fantastic!

Thanks RW ...it is indeed an amazing example :D

wow!! love it.

So do I

In the end, I wonder why these triangles were never shown on a Rolex.

A 5513 with such hour markers would be stunning in my humble opinion :whistling:

Well Steph, for once in my life, I disagree: I mean, you know I love Tudor Subs, some models even more than Rolex correspondant (especially the blue ones): 7928 or 7016 or 9411 or 94110 have nothing worse than, to say, 5508 or 5513 or 1680. The only model that's not up there is the 79090, that's fantastic of course (it's a Tudor Sub!), but those triangles, well, they wreck the whole design of the watch. Only my 2 cents, of course

I love when we disagree Paolo B)

Ma mi dispiace: questo Tudor

What a watch :) Even though I've not yet had the "Is that a real Rolex??", I'm figuring putting a Tudor dial in my project sub would enable me to answer "No..." and not need to say more :D I don't think I've seen a Tudor sub rep with the Tudor marking on the bracelet, so I understand what you mean by Tudex :D

Wear it well, my friend :good::drinks:

The last stage of the Rolex Disease is to buy a watch that is not a Rolex, but it looks like a Rolex and it has some Rolex parts... :bangin:

Just kidding!

:D :D :D

I'm not a Tudor fan, but is a nice find!

I had the occasion to buy one just like yours, 2 yeas ago. B&P, year 1994, 1400

Thanks TJ! Yeah, for the first we can say "NO, it's not a Rolex!" ...

Sure, it would be cool to see reps with the Tudor clasp. Specialy with a folded link bracelet.

I wonder why it's so hard to do that !!!

Maybe Tudor is not a top seller in fact.

I was a broke college student 2 years ago :D

That's why I didn't pick it up. Now I'm regretting that choice

It could have been a wise investment!!!

Well, then I guess you'll have to forget about that.

There is a time to be a college student and a time to buy watches...all comes when due in life!

Good luck with the hunt, you have plenty of years ahead... ;) I don't :(

Ok, Ok, I'll continue to search for watches

Oh, and I am only 48 and a half

:cry2:

Indeed, as long as it's not a Rolex, it can't be a fake (so think the majority of people :D )

It's a shame about the clasps. There are reps of a Tudor Hydronaut about, which have a proper Tudor clasp, which I guess someone could swap onto an older oyster bracelet, but it I don't think it would really work on a more modern oyster bracelet, like the one you've shown :) I guess it's just a case of the Tudors not being an popular as Rolex subs, so the factories probably don't see the need to make them... Oh well :)

Beautiful 79090, Stephane!

I am in the midst of negotiating for a piece right about now with 2 sellers.

Last price I saw for an almost brand new went for USD $ 2100.

Others are asking for closer to 3k for complete with box and papers.

Oh well, the Tudor fever never ends, does it? Almost never....

It's one of the subs that is a must-have in the Tudor line...

Thanks guys!

@Pre V: if you find one at 2.100 ...get it right away ;)

About the crystals, I do like yours too Nanuq.

I wonder why I never thought about polishing my franken ones.

In the end, it's that effect which makes the watch older. More than scratches ^_^

I guess that with the price I put in the 39 Superdome I was afraid to destroy it

But I'll try it with the flat 39!
