Jkay Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I was looking at the Top Gun again today, and it occurred to me that I'd like it a lot more if you could buy it WITHOUT the white paint in the side-logo ... make it more low-profile .. not so shouty. Anyone agree? Just a black engraving for TOP GUN .. no paint.
Toadtorrent Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 I would actually prefer it without any of the Top Gun branding.
dbutlerman Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Loved the movie, hate the branding on the watch...makes it seem cheap to me, if you could get the watch without the logos, I'd buy it...but to me it just seems like a novelty watch...nothing special...but without the branding, it's a beautiful watch! I like the idea with the blacked out Top-Gun actually...That would make it waay more understated!
ChipSlap Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 100%. I don't want to wear anything that might peg me as a fan of Tom Cruise. I think I'd sooner wear an OJ jersey.
Typemono Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 How about an almost all-black 3717? The wrist shot is from TZ. The watch shot is from a watch seller in Hong Kong. I don't have much information except it is a 46 mm Pilot's Double Chronograph and limited to 30 pieces - MONO

asiparks Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 there's the blue dialed Carlson version too, another run of 50 pieces...not a big fan of the white day/date and it's not nearly as sexy as the one above...
eunomians Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 ^^^My pants, too. That is sexy as hell!

Typemono Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 30 pieces.. what's the tag on it.. I think the pre-owned price was US$ 15,950. I don't know the retail as most forums don't allow price discussions. - MONO

Agree the Top Gun is nice and all but who wants to come off as a flyboy fanboy...
aquila Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Agree it's too shouty, I'd paint it grey or something...
Jkay Posted October 11, 2009 Author Report Posted October 11, 2009 Why not just get a 3717? The ceramic case makes this watch for me. It's different.
Watchmeister Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 IWC atually came out with the non-branded ceramic Doppel about the same time as the top gun. The first generation of top gun was the standard 42mm chrono. The gen Top Gun chrono has fallen dramatically in price as the Doppel is the more sought after watch. And yeah, that logo thing is cheesy. You can now pick up the gen 42mm Top Gun chrono for not much more than a gen 3717.
Gatchaman Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 (edited) A rep of the Zegg & Cerlati Top Gun is already in the Asian market. Check out my thread here. Edited October 13, 2009 by Gatchaman
plaifender Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 How did my watch get posted on here without my consent!?? haha. That is probably the best looking pilot i`ve ever seen. I was on the fence a few months ago between my Skyland Blacksteel and the 44mm Top Gun.. very happy i got the skyland.. but if it had been between the Skyland Blacksteel and this beast.. i would`ve gone IWC!!! Sure this won`t ever come out as a replica. :-(
asiparks Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 well, picked up a gen today, got to say, the logo is a muted dark silver and i don't even notice it.... it shows up lighter in pics than in real life it's exactly the same as on my V1 TG rep.... Not that i wouldn't like it just a bit better if it weren't there......
