Pugwash Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Being fairly new to this game I need to have explained to me why anyone would make a watch with a year wheel? Watches need year wheels so that when you set a perpetual calendar, it knows when Feb has 29 days. It's not that you need to know what year it is; it's that the watch needs to know.
TeeJay Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Behold I could leave the others, but I have to admit, these two rather caught my eye, and I'm not normally keen on Breitlings. I think with appropriate enamel to fill the bezel markings, I think both of those could actually be pretty nice fantasy watches
thogaa Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 And by the way: Why do all bad reps have a IIII marking instead of IV on the dial?
wimpie007 Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 And by the way: Why do all bad reps have a IIII marking instead of IV on the dial? Actually IIII is also correct for 4: The notation of Roman numerals has varied through the centuries. Originally, it was common to use IIII to represent four, because IV represented the Roman god Jupiter, whose Latin name, IVPPITER, begins with IV. The subtractive notation (which uses IV instead of IIII) has become the standard notation only in modern times. For example, Forme of Cury, a manuscript from 1390, uses IX for nine, but IIII for four. Another document in the same manuscript, from 1381, uses IV and IX. A third document in the same manuscript uses IIII, IV, and IX. Constructions such as IIIII for five, IIX for eight or VV for 10 have also been discovered. Subtractive notation arose from regular Latin usage: the number 18 was duodeviginti or

danolectro Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Two for your viewing pleasure. First a Sub from the new "I'm Rick James, [censored]" collection..... Teamed with the fabled CIMEGA Agromatic "900", which BTW is actually 100% Swiss made.

Eton Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Those are some craaaaazy watches! 33 days in a month.
Katerchen Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 :thumbsupsmileyanim: Absolutely LOVE these watches!! Which dealer carries these?? And where talking about "accuracy" of reps and the like for ages... MAN these guys(producers) ARE ARTISTS!! They took the essence of each brand & model and TRANSFORMED it to another level What brands like Rolex or other discuss and try for decades is a task of minutes to these virtues!! Absolutely love them and would love to own one :) Just think about it - these watches have what common reps and gen watches doesnt have: CHARACTER & BALLS! No more silly questions wearing your Rolex (gen or rep) like: "Is this a real Rolex?" or "How much did you pay for?" With these beauties shown in this thread i imagine conversations beeing more like: "Da_mn?!!" "Whats THAT on your arm??" "MAN, wait, wait, wait... wait!!" "Man, your watch... WT_F!!" And reactions like these will certainly add BALLS & CHARACTER to the wearer Just my 2
Highflyingclive Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 My favourite was the Glashutte Senator that was around a few years ago - with the rotor carefully engraved "glashitte". I wish I had bought one when I had the chance :-)
Highflyingclive Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 hehe.. I found the pic... this really was offered a few years ago.
