Welcome in from the cold Chris.

True love never runs smooth so even now there will be little bumps here and there, but I believe the days of this hobby seriously dumping on you are now behind.

The RWG Brotherhood accepts the new nominee. :)

Words are so rarely so eloquently put into an introduction, but my hat goes off to you Chris! Well done, well thought out, and welcome!!! I'm also a SoCal resident and we occasionally have nice little get togethers (aka GTG's) to have a pint and talk of life, love and the pursuit of the perfect replica watch! You have found one of the most inspiring, and helpful web sites and I hope you find what you are looking for and a whole lot more!

RED,

The GTGs sound great to me. Some times a faster way to get up to speed is with a face to face as I'm not the world's fastest on the keyboard by any means. I'm searching and reading nightly but that just raises more questions to search on. I've seen a few CA designations on the member profiles and assume there are many here. How do the GTGs start anyway? Anything planned? I was a member of another hobbyist club several years ago now (saltwater aquariums) and we actually met monthly and had discussions / presentations of interest to the group. We might not be up for monthly meetings but maybe something quarterly for now? What do you think?

I have been to a couple this year and it seems like quarterly is about the average time span for a GTG. We had one in October so I would say another one should be in the works soon. And yes, the GTG's are a great way for a noob to get an introduction to what's available out there. You'll see some watches you've never heard of before and the get hooked. Certainly happened to me with the Panerai's. You'll also get to see the varying degree of quality in the reps which helps a lot when making a decision on what to spend your money on. There are some amazing quality reps to be had for little money! The Narikaa Planet Ocean comes to mind. A huge favorite here at RWG.

As an aside, I love Saltwater Aquariums! Used to work in a studio that had a beautiful one in the lobby! Stunning coral's, but a lot of work and money to keep it maintained! We had a great crew of guys who worked on it twice a week though, so it was always immaculate.

welcome to RWG chris :victory:

your post was a pleasure to read; you described very well the "is this for real?" thoughts that just about every member had when they found RWG. keep reading (given all the info out there, we're really all still noobs) and take your time before buying your first watch -- you'll be glad you did.

all the best,

Your introduction was truly of epic proportions. Seriously, you're a great writer. Have you written a novel before!??? I'm glad you've found this site. The beauty of this site is what you pointed out before: individuals from all around the globe, in one place to discuss without bias, the one thing that they all have a passion for. It's truly an amazing place. All ages, all religions, all colors (well.. maybe not all colors, i have yet to hear of any purple or green members..) all contributing to the common good of the community. I hope you enjoy yourself here at RWG!

Cheers from spain

Thanks for the warm welcome folks, just confirming what I'd already seen here. Got my tool kit from Offshore the other day so will be taking my first steps on one of my earlier purchases (now DOA) soon to further my learning process. Will be looking to start the Time Zone class soon too. Wish the winter here in So Cal was less than 70 degrees so I'd have an excuse to stay indoors all weekend and focus on learning, whoa is me right? :pardon: Still considering my first purchase, in the running is the Omega Railmaster XXL(would like to see one on my wrist first though as the 49.2mm case is a well known beast!), a Breitling SuperOcean, or the classic blue Bond Omega Seamaster (is this watch still available from dealers or has it been updated to the Co-Axial?). I'm not to the point where the accuracy to the gen is that critical to me, just want a nice looking watch I can wear for several years at this point.

plaifender, thanks for the compliment, guess writing is just another hobby of mine among many others. Think sometimes I'm ADD hobby-wise as I've got so many different interests that I bounce between. Looking forward to the possibility of a GTG here in So Cal in the months ahead....
