alligoat Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Nice job, Mr. Bond, James Bond! Wear it with pride and let the aging begin.
freddy333 Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Great work on the case. Now get yourself a good dial/handset (NDtrading, Yuki, etc) or, at least, have the hour markers on your dial relumed to tone down the shine.
rolexmaniac88 Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 I dream that one day i'll have the courage to go through with the 6538 project. Very well done! Wear it in good health!
Ronin Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Impressive. The new crown and bezel makes all the difference.
deltatahoe Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 congrats on a nice watch. as freddy said, i think a relume would cleary take the watch to a new level quick question re: the 8mm brevet big crown -- does davidsen offer these as spares? i didn't realize he had access to these. thanks in advance deltatahoe
Member X Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Aren't the gen brevet 8mm crowns something like $800?
freddy333 Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Aren't the gen brevet 8mm crowns something like $800? Yes & often higher, but there are some reasonable aftermarket 8mm Brevets floating around that some of the dealers may have access to.

freddy333 Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 hi there love your pictures of your 6538 i too built a 6538 brevet crown sub............ I realize you are new, but please try to avoid re-quoting lengthy, picture-filled posts. There is no reason to force everyone to scroll half a page through a set of pics for a 2nd time. If you need something to reference, quote only the relevant text, or, if you need an image, just re-quote 1 pic. Thank you & welcome.

alligoat Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Ha! By the time Thunderball came around, Sean Connery was already wearing a hairpiece! That one pic of the dial from the side looks like a nice coat of matte varnish has been applied! Instant patina???
aeromatic Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) Hello These are nice photos too you have a great bond watch there ,may i ask what camera you use? i have seen matt varnish used before on dials and hands but i would recommend a waterbased varnish only. i have toned down a dial by using rubbing compound or by rubbing the crystal with some fine wirewool this way you dont have to risk damage to your dial and if you dont like it polish it back up!
