projectologist
I'm the 8th owner of this franken project (I was also owner #4). I know everyone that has owned it, and was pleased to see the last owner take it a couple of steps closer to ultimate status. He added a gen cg and a new case back without the typical rep serial # 0117/1950. More details about the other new parts when I post better photos this weekend. I just picked it up this afternoon, so only time for some quick iPhone pics... (the hands are gold, guess the iPhone couldn't handle the over-exposed area). Watchmeister
P- A stunning piece but you knew that. Too funny that you are taking a second turn on this one. Pics look great. I will be curious to hear how you fit the 581 case back on what I assume is an EL or equivalent case. And of course inquiring minds want to know - did you pay more this time or the last time. watchlover1
That is a gen movement inside. Not seen a rep 6497 with that quality of finish! A very beautiful peice!! I agree this looks like a GEN movement - AWESOME Watch!!! There are movements out there that are VERY VERY VERY close to the Gen. Here is a picture of the one I have in my FIDDY. I would say it is as close as possible to the GEN. The PANERAI pattern is spot-on, smooth and the engraving is shallow. These are very hard to come by. I have not seen them in a long time. I didn't realize there was a potential fit issue with the 581 casebacks/EL cases. The watch came to me this way (previous owner replaced the 117 with this one). I've had it off already to check the o-ring and it screwed back on nice and smooth. Did I pay more this time? You betcha ... last time there was no gen cg, 581 caseback, better DSN hands or better version EL dial.
Watchmeister
Congrats on the watch. It looks great. I did it the other way. Invest too much money and take 3 years to assemble the parts. The funny thing is the star part on my watch was a first generation dial for $250 which needed a relume. But this one is never going anywhere other than my wrist. Seriously, how do you take pics like that with an iphone?
PeteM
Great pics +1 on I cant believe its an iPhone! Its a great looking piece with that movement you should wear it upside down and ask other people when you need to know the time Is that a Rex crystal? I only ask as the distortion isnt like gen or over distortion like DSN etc. or is it the pics? Congrats on its return looks good on the wrist. @kruzer00 - Nice fiddy mate lot of work on that and the cashmere sets it off lovely. Thanks for pics from both of you

First rep dial I've ever seen that has the "1950" spaced correctly between the pin and the "6". Funny you mention the iPhone pics. I had a member accuse me of not actually using the iPhone but merely saying I did. All one has to do as proof is open the pic file and read the "Camera Data EXIF" for the image. Can't alter that info... it tells you what camera the photo came from.

It was a replacement as a previous owner had scratched the original crystal beyond use. Agree about the strap... it's the only way to fly with a Fiddy! As I mentioned to Kruzer, a member had recently accused me of using a better camera and just saying I used an iPhone. I told him to check the EXIF Camera Data for any of the pics in question... haven't heard back from him after he did that. EXIF data doesn't lie The key with getting closer with the new iPhone is using the touch-focus function to choose the main area of focus... makes a huge difference. The other vital ingredient is good lighting. That's why I rarely use it indoors. Performance falls off a cliff in low light conditions.
