redwatch Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Just arrived in the mail today, my new Bulova Watchmaster WT Ultrasonic Cleaning system. Now that I have a watch timing machine, and new oilers & oils, all I needed was an ultrasonic cleaner to clean up the watch movement parts before I attempt to oil it. Found this on the internet from New Jersey and had to jump on it
deltatahoe Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 wow, that thing is fancy looking! nice find S it is so good (and inspiring) to see members learning to work on their own watches. someday (when i retire?? ) i'll follow suit deltatahoe
Jkay Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Wow first a 900$ timer and now a professional ultrasonic cleaner! Someone is very serious about their hobby.
redwatch Posted November 1, 2011 Author Report Posted November 1, 2011 Thanks guys. @Jkay - go big or go home has always been my motto! When I dive into a hobby, I go all the way. Besides, just like building a Franken watch, finding these gems is more fun than using them I have to say.... using an Ultrasonic Cleaner from the 70's that is powered with Vacuum tubes is somewhat satisfying!!! Love seeing those 6CD6 power tubes glow away!
Utheman Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Ok, I'll be sending my parts over right after tearing my movement apart (just like the way the guy did it in Maxman's movmt servicing post) Very cool, S. Let us know how it works.
krpster Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Nice unit. Where did you find it? Stock up on cleaning solution yet? Looks like it will hold quite a bit.
asf Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 ahhh shhhhhoooot! That thing looks like it could survive a nuclear holocaust
tabularasa415 Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 So after you get one movement torn all the way apart, get it put back together and operating properly... I'll send you some of mine? Nice buy, and be sure to keep us all updated on how your project is going.
mastrmindalliance Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 So, can we make meth in this thing? Congrats! Great pick up! 1
JEKS Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 ahhh shhhhhoooot! That thing looks like it could survive a nuclear holocaust Actually, it probably could, since it would be nearly immune to the damaging current bursts caused by the electromagnetic waves resulting from the nuclear detonation... fun fact; most Russian military aircraft use tubes for this reason Most aircraft using microprocessors suffer from this vulnerability. Russia still has a 'tube' industry to this day, which also keeps the vintage audiophiles happy
redwatch Posted November 1, 2011 Author Report Posted November 1, 2011 Nice unit. Where did you find it? Stock up on cleaning solution yet? Looks like it will hold quite a bit. Just ordered some cleaning solutions for it today. Got the following: Zenith Formula 67 Cleaning Fluid Non-Ammoniated 206 Zenith Drizebrite Rinsing Solution Can't wait to try it out on one of my A6497's

omegaunit Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Nice machine, my watchmaker had one. Enjoy!
redwatch Posted November 2, 2011 Author Report Posted November 2, 2011 Thanks! Still waiting on the cleaning solutions, but I did test it out with just distilled water in the cups to test out the ultrasonic action. I must say, this thing is quite noisy!!! It does, however, work quite well!!!
cigarben Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 You can also use Windex and distilled water for a cleaning solution. I can't remember if I found the mix on this forum or cruising the net. Mix it 1:1. It works great and I use it in my cheapy Walmart cleaner.
freddy333 Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Congratulations on getting a proper cleaner. Now, have you got a 2nd job to fund the cleaning/rinsing soups?

No where near ready for anything like that yet F, but maybe someday Congratulations on getting a proper cleaner. Now, have you got a 2nd job to fund the cleaning/rinsing soups? No kidding.
