Akira
Hi guys, some of you might remember that I'm the owner of a V1 MM 6263 from DW The stem broke quite some time ago and the one DW sent before he starting [censored] with members money, doesn't fit. Neither does a regular 7750 stem. RA said the movement is rather ST19 than V23 based. So anyone got an idea what I can do to get a new stem? Anyone got this movement as well and could snap a pic of the stem? Best regards Akira
JoeyB
Looks like a Seagull 192s.
Akira
Any idea who could supply a stem for that Joey? I'm desperate to try anything
JoeyB
No, but I'd try 'google', and probably try some of our suppliers, like Ken at Rafflestime.
GBOGH
I have the same Mystery Movement in my DW 6263. I needed a stem as well about 9 months ago when Gonzales was working on the franken mods. DW sent me a new stem, which didn't initially fit it, but Gonzales cut it and worked it to make it fit. He didn't know either where to get another stem besides DW, so was able to make it work. Hope you find one soon. Good luck.
Akira
Any chance you or he made pictures of the actual finished stem? Nevermind I found one in my archives. Anyone know where to get a similar one? Edited June 12, 2012 by Akira
Jkay
it sounds like you need a real watch maker to make a new stem for you, using your broken stem as a template. using higher-quality metal, this time.
alligoat
The Zigmeister did a tutorial of sorts on making a stem a while back so you know he can do it. He also used to refer to the MM as possibly an early Venus, like a Venus 150 But trying DW would also be worth it, I would think
Ephry73
Damn I wonder if the seagull stem Is that hard to mod. I was looking to get one of those movements for a build. E
Donerix 2.0
I have the same movement in this watch: I can ask my watch smith if he can make a copy for you. He is pretty reasonable...

automatico
Chances are there is a stem that is very similar and can be easily modified to fit. Modifying an existing stem is a lot easier than making one from scratch. It is better to start with a stem that is exactly the same where the flats are and has the same thread size but the hub, detent groove, and pilot are fairly easy to modify. Most repair guys with a 'ww' lathe can do it. 'ww' = watchmaker type lathe Anyone who discovers a close match can post what it is.
Rolexaddict
Neither does a regular 7750 stem. RA said the movement is rather ST19 than V23 based. Its not a 7750 based as a 7750 based is a tri-compax. These Chinese movements are copy of bi-compax Seagull, non working chrono hours counter at 6, just a glued hand, not very realistic,
wiesn089
Akira, as someone who's been there, don't spend too much to save this thing, just get a decent movement and save yourself the disappointement...
Donerix 2.0
Wiesn might have a point here. Especially if you don't mind the one fixed hand. Those movements are easier to find and not so expensive. Either way I will see the watch smith tomorrow morning and will let you know. PS: My mystery movement is working fine as of now ..... Akira
Wiesn, does have a point but, the only upgrade I'd do, would be a V72 and I don't have the spare cash lying around at the moment. So if your watchmaker can do a stem at a reasonable price, I'd go with it. That movement has been working for years without problems, I just got unlucky with breaking the stem, when I had a gen crown/tube installed. Niko
Why don't your try Ofrei? www.ofrei.com They carry most movements and parts. N.
Ephry73
Maybe a molnija stem for a 3133 would fit there?
slickdick
The mystery movement is copy of valjoux 23. You can not change to val 72 withouth modding the case (crown is not on same line as pushers, but higher). Try a val 23 stem or swap complete movement to val 23. Ephry73
I wanted one of those a few weeks back. I was actually looking for a mystery movement to see what ticks. I know I'm stubborn and sometimes wonder if a little masochistic. E
RWG Technical
The movement is not a copy of anything..., it most certainly is not a V23 (or 72, the 72 is simply a 23 with a 12 hr counter added) I have tried all the stems possible and none fit. I finally found a Bestfit stem that was close and needed some tweeking in the lathe to make it fit...

That movement has nothing to do with a V72 nor V23. It's some bi-compax-who-knows-what. Very strange However, Donerix has been very helpful so far and I might resolve that issue. Thanks everyone for chiming in and please continue if you have more input.
Donerix 2.0
The watch smith is on it and I spoke to him today and he thinks he will have one ready by the weekend. I left him my watch so he can make sure it will work.
Ephry73
DW did claim to have some Stems as spares and there is supposedly a V2 Mystery movement. E
