Akira Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 Hi guys, some of you might remember that I'm the owner of a V1 MM 6263 from DW The stem broke quite some time ago and the one DW sent before he starting [censored] with members money, doesn't fit. Neither does a regular 7750 stem. RA said the movement is rather ST19 than V23 based. So anyone got an idea what I can do to get a new stem? Anyone got this movement as well and could snap a pic of the stem? Best regards Akira

GBOGH Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 I have the same Mystery Movement in my DW 6263. I needed a stem as well about 9 months ago when Gonzales was working on the franken mods. DW sent me a new stem, which didn't initially fit it, but Gonzales cut it and worked it to make it fit. He didn't know either where to get another stem besides DW, so was able to make it work. alligoat Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 The Zigmeister did a tutorial of sorts on making a stem a while back so you know he can do it. He also used to refer to the MM as possibly an early Venus, like a Venus 150 But trying DW would also be worth it, I would think

automatico Posted June 13, 2012 Report Posted June 13, 2012 Chances are there is a stem that is very similar and can be easily modified to fit. Modifying an existing stem is a lot easier than making one from scratch. It is better to start with a stem that is exactly the same where the flats are and has the same thread size but the hub, detent groove, and pilot are fairly easy to modify. Most repair guys with a 'ww' lathe can do it. 'ww' = watchmaker type lathe Anyone who discovers a close match can post what it is.

Its not a 7750 based as a 7750 based is a tri-compax. These Chinese movements are copy of bi-compax Seagull, non working chrono hours counter at 6, just a glued hand, not very realistic,

Either way I will see the watch smith tomorrow morning and will let you know. PS: My mystery movement is working fine as of now .....
Akira Posted June 13, 2012 Author Report Posted June 13, 2012 Wiesn, does have a point but, the only upgrade I'd do, would be a V72 and I don't have the spare cash lying around at the moment. So if your watchmaker can do a stem at a reasonable price, I'd go with it. That movement has been working for years without problems, I just got unlucky with breaking the stem, when I had a gen crown/tube installed.

slickdick Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 The mystery movement is copy of valjoux 23. You can not change to val 72 withouth modding the case (crown is not on same line as pushers, but higher). Try a val 23 stem or swap complete movement to val 23.

I finally found a Bestfit stem that was close and needed some tweeking in the lathe to make it fit... 1

That movement has nothing to do with a V72 nor V23. It's some bi-compax-who-knows-what. Very strange However, Donerix has been very helpful so far and I might resolve that issue.
