I'm looking to either buy or make a vintage Rolex Datejust 16030, does anyone know where I could either purchase the replica, or where I could purchase the parts (Genuine and rep)?

Except that's not a 16030 ASCIWhite.

Best thing to do would be to build a franken. There are plenty of gen cases available on eBay, and the rest of the parts can be found without too much trouble.

Alternatively, get a hold of JMB for one of his DJ cases for a 2824 movement, and then search out the gen dial of your choice. You'll also need to find an engine turned bezel, but they are relatively cheap.

Sorry, but I am pretty sure this is a 16030, I got this picture from Ebay. I think building a Franken DJ would be a fun project, mixing genuine and rep parts. However, I have found it hard trying to find this bezel.

The first pic looks to me a 16014

If not it has had its stainless bezel exchanged to a fluted white gold example.

Great watch.

Go franken spend between 700 -1000 have a watch that is all gen but the movement.

I was looking for a case on the Bay and was drawing a blank.

Seems all the cases have been gobbled up

I think I've go about $800 in mine including gen bracelet. But I doubt if it could be done again that cheaply since the price of cases and WG bezels has gone up considerably. It is one of my favorites.

I agree with tomhorn that the watch originally pictured is not a 16030, or at least it''s been modded with a white gold fluted bezel and therefore more like a 16014.

Finding these DJ cases on the bay is getting more difficult- prices are going up- too many franken builders!

Even my DD used a 16000 case modified by Phong

That is an aftermarket polished fluted ss bezel by the way- like kbh says- WG bezels are hard to come by these days at a decent price.

I was actually referring to ASCIWhite's Oysterdate Precision, but it's possible the OP's picture is also not of a 16030. The engine turned bezels photograph differently depending on the lighting.

Here is one on eBay for reference:

Cases are definitely getting harder to find, which is why JMB's offering is so good. Also probably why I am still hording my last one (16014) and haven't turned it into an Explorer ... yet ... ;)

I have the exact same genuine dial, modded and ready to mount on a eta movement. I have gen swiss eta 2824-2 or 2836-2 and I have the dwo and a set of hands and crown, gen or aftermarket.

Thanks for your replies, I thought this was a 16030, as I had copied it from a google search! I thought i might find this watch a bit hard to get hold of, and you can get a genuine secondhand one for about £1,800, however I'd like to try and build my own.

This is what i am looking for:

I was thinking that a 16233 case would be easy as with tc movement and spacer 3135 specs but i do like the older plastic crystal watches

A 162xx series case would be harder to find than a 160xx series case. I've only seen one 162xx case on eBay and that was years ago.

I think I have one of these rep dials left if you contemplate building a "budget" version...

I don't either, so I just collected the parts and sent them off to PBdad ... ;)

Speaking of PBdad ... he just sent me a teaser of my latest project. Can't wait until it gets here!
