rillz
Sure, but you can shape them. The gilt underline I just sold. Cartel case. Sent from my iPad using TapatalkWhat I understood was that the stubbyness was that they were too short? Therefore not possible to make right? Am i wrong? Both lovely watches, none the less. Mendota Explorer
I think you are thinking of the Cartel 1680. Those cg suck monkey balls and no matter how much you rework them, they are always going to be too short. So the more metal you take off, the shorter they become. Sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. The cartel 5513 is a different case.
jackflash
What I understood was that the stubbyness was that they were too short? Therefore not possible to make right? As well as shaping the crown guards. I generally lower the height of the saddle between them ever so slightly. Countersink and re-tap the hole, then add an Athaya crown and tube. Naturally, I try and avoid taking anything off the top of crown guards. Not perfect, but close enough for me without the outlay of a phong case.

dpap
Here are my 5513 (and related) subs. None of them are perfect, but I like them as they are 1) Comex 5514 (HH case, gen crown, gen service t19, whoopy dial, TC hands, dial relume by cwazy) 2) 9401 (Richie case, WSO insert aged by me, clark t19, HR dial, Raffles hands, dial relume by daz. In the market for a darker dial.) 3) 5517 (HR case/dial/hands/crown, clark t19, watchman bezel, Phong insert, dial relume by Daz) 4) 5513 Gilt (Cartel Base, whoopy dial, gen crown, gen service t19, TC hands, case rework by Akira. In the market for a better case with PCG) 5) 5513 Protoype Piano dial (HR case/crown, GS crystal, WSO bezel assembly, Yuki insert, TC hands, Whoopy prototype dial. New pearl on the way)

Mendota Explorer
HR makes some great dials. The 6200 and 6538 dials are top notch for budget builds.
