woof* Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 Phong has aftermarket 702 tubes! That's new news. Last time I checked , he had 700's, not 702's. When did you see this? Btw, I contacted ebay seller jewelerstools yesterday and he told me he had a used and usable 702 tube for 100$

Didn't end up getting them since I found a nice deal on a gen crown + tube
tomhorn Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 For someone about to embark on a 5514 with HH's case and Whoopy's dial, is the 702 the actual 'proper' crown or am I OK with the 703?
woof* Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 Tom The early ( 5512/13/1680/1665 etc) subs started with 702's from the factory. Later on when serviced in the 80's and forward.... they were replaced with 703's. I don't know exactly when, but at some point they built the last subs with 703's from the factory. Either crown is "accurate". I like the 702's better because they are thinner, and with some cases look a lot better. My 5512 with 702 Same watch but service insert. 1
quaresma7 Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Very interesting thread. That's my 702 on my franken 5512
woof* Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 quaresma7..... can you tell me about your dial?
ubiquitous Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 702... My favorite crown in the 7mm variety...

quaresma7 Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 quaresma7..... can you tell me about your dial? HI Woof* Sorry for my late reply but I didn't see you reply..It's a old Yuki dial
redxds Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 I have found a source in the CONUS for the elusive aftermarket 24-7020 tubes. But before I post a link the seller asked for me to wait until he has better pictures to post on his site. The quality looks there. And I did a mock up with the gen 702, and it threaded like butter. I think we may have a winner here guys. Sent Via Tapatalk HD
janeto72 Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Hi folks...I don't want to hijack this thread...but for those of you guys really needing a gen 7020 tube...I will have several NOS tubes coming in the next few weeks.....for those of you that can't wait.phong has an aftermarket tube/crown set that are acceptable. However, the tubes/crowns have weak threads and are prone to wearing out prematurely. The base metal used is less than ideal.the tubes also braek in the cases if you try to torque them too tight.... j
redxds Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I would much prefer a Gen 24-7020. Please put me on your list. Thanks!Sent Via Tapatalk HD
Mapman57 Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I am getting a little confused here The various pictures above of 702 crowns all have the correct deep, tall coronet, but not all tall coronet crowns are 702 s are they? I understood the 702 had the tall coronet and thinner sectiona as shown also above. Arent the wrapped, tall coronet triplocks from the late 70's the early 703s? If not, then 702s as described here fit 703 tubes and seal up to 7 and 10 atm? I have one installed on my 1665 mbw now. I have even had one installed on a TC 16610 for some time cos the TC crown was playing up? Both were pressure tested to 10 atm. I always assumed these were early wrapped, tall coronet 703s? Can anyone clarify this - I expect freddy or Ubi will know? My 1665 is featured in a live thread from me a few posts below - which crown is that?
jerkstore Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Mapman: early 703s look like 702s. Easiest way to tell the difference is to place the crown coronet-side down. On the 702, the threads run all the way to the top. http://www.chrono-shop.net/img/p/953-5005-thickbox.jpg On the 703, they don't. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/4/9/0/1/4/9/webimg/572089904_o.jpg Looking at the tubes, when installed the 7020 has threads near the case, but is then smooth: http://www.chrono-shop.net/img/p/3042-22122-thickbox.jpg For the 7030, the tube has a smooth spot near the case to fit a gasket, and then is threaded: http://www.jewelerssupplies.com/media/R7030.jpg 2

So as I thought, I have a bunch of early 703's that fit on a standard 703 tube, that explains it! Thanks again for the education and links. :-)
