short Airking post

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

been wearing this Airking (dial is only part gen) for a coupla days - having owned it a year or so it's never been used because I deemed it too small. Suddenly I love it. IMHO, its small size scores big in the "don't impress" department.

Highly recommended for people who are pretty cool and want to avoid appearing as if they're trying particularly hard :-)

Less is more indeed.

Have a great weekend all,

Very nice. No, actually that does not describe this watch sufficiently. Spectacular is the proper descriptor & there is no such thing as a gentleman's Rolex being too small.

I agree. Prolly get a gen actually, in order to respect it proper.

Love the Air-King.. It is a true pilots watch, with a heritage from WW2. :-)

To bad I do not wear mine more often. I need a new bracelet, the watch is fine, but the stock replica bracelet has badly fitting end links.

The silver dial is sold, but the blue one is a stayer in my collection.

"I have a couple of datejust cases 16014 etc. Can a gen air king dial fit them?"

No, The AK dial is a hair too small.

You might be able to use a replica 34mm tudor case like the cases used for replica Rangers etc, the AK dial might work in one of them.

quick set dials for 3035/3135 DJ in 36mm cases = 27.8mm

34mm 5500 AK = 27.0mm

34mm no date op = 27.0mm

34mm opd 1500 = 26.9mm

34mm tudor date replica with Eta 28xx = 27.0mm (for this particular case)

note on the 1500 dial:

This is an older model with embossed markers and newer models with applied markers might be 27.0mm, I did not check a later model dial.
