cajunjay27
I saved pretty hard to buy myself a new Omega Seamaster which would have been on the cheape rend of the scale. Instead I decided why not buy 2-3 super reps and still keep a large amount of cash in my pocket. Just wanted to ask which watches you guys consider a super rep maybe from your own collection or watches you have seen regardless of brand. Thanks
Dreamer
What are you a fan off? Currently my favorite to wear are; PAM372 (with different strap), and the AP Diver forged carbon. And from everything I've read the AP is a great rep. the strap on the 372 kinda looks like this one. such a beautiful piece http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/166215-sold-new-cr-pam-372-super-clone-on-mario-pacci-gator-conus/

cajunjay27
Both watches look awesome I really like Pam's and the forged carbon AP is really cool. So the rep is also forged carbon?

Yes there is. The AP Diver forget carbon. I thought it's a very good rep too
cajunjay27
Thanks guys thats 3 good watches for me to consider and I like them all. Of the 3 suggested which one would fool a "watch expert" or would simply looking at the movement be a giveaway? Just that some smart [censored] at work reckons he would be able to tell any rep over gen.

cajunjay27
Not lazy mate got an autistic 3 year old to look after so dont get much time to search for answers that members can answer in seconds. Also not a dimwit, need to be on point when trying to teach/heal an autistic child. Edited January 8, 2014 by cajunjay27
fraggle42
Movements are always a giveaway. So whichever you get, buy one with a closed caseback.
cajunjay27
Hmmmm Ive seen some seamasters off trusty timeand the movement is visable but still has all the engravings like Omega ** Jewels etc etc... So this is still much different to how the back of a gen looks?
fraggle42
Hell yeah, they may have put the writing on the back of the auto winding weight, but the whole of the rest of the movement is different. Let me dig out a couple of pics.
fraggle42
Gen Omega 2500 Rep Asian 2836 (typical in a PO) The auto weight hides over half the movement, but the 2836 has an auto plate with the auto winding gears that you can't see at all on the 2500, the balance plate is different as are all the other plates, etc.
cajunjay27
Now I see totally different a complete giveaway Doesnt this Seamaster from trusty time look good to your trained eye?
importr
I reckon the Superocean 44 is an extremely accurate rep. Only a real Breitling owner and expert could call you out on that one. My Planet Ocean liquidmetal rep is for me,one of the best reps of 2013. It is very very close to the genuine PO which I have.
fraggle42
That Seamaster looks a lot better. The movement ring and the auto weight look good. The movement itself is still just as incorrect though, but there's more shiney bits to disgrace a casual observer. I think a better question is is this friends opinion of you more important than the watch a itself and how much you like it? I mean if I was buying a rep for a partner, I wouldn't try to hide the fact it's a rep, I'd show them the choices and let them choose maybe 3 and I'd pick one from those 3. If its a friend who's just using a gen watch to prove how rich they are, or boasting about how good they are at recognising reps, buy whatever you want and keep on reminding them that its a rep, a lovely rep that looks and feels good to wear, and you've got enough money left over to buy a new BMW. It'll drive him nuts
Mike on a bike
cajun as I hope you are surmising close you can get, gonna fool somebody who works on movements NOT going to happen. Just get one that appeals to you and no big tells on the wrist. You need a Gen movement to get by a watch smith even then there are other tells inside so do yourself a favor do not focus on it.

Really the best that you can hope for out-of-the-box is passing the "five feet away" test: can someone standing five feet away from you look at your wrist and tell it's a rep? If you let someone take a close look, it will get caught.

New here to RWG, but have loved watches for a long time. Gens generally stay in the safe. Wear the reps most of the time. The people I socialize with know I collect watches and have gens, but they also know that I wear reps because I am upfront about it and I would rather have many watches than just a few. With those who are close to me and see me daily like some co workers it is a little game, now it that one a gen or a rep? I love watches whether they are gens or reps. For me it is all about liking what is on the wrist not whether someone can tell or not--more about how much I like it. I actually like it when people comment on a watch I am wearing, Then I tell them it is a rep that someone worked on to make it look like this, I looked long and hard for this rep and saved ?K that I can spend on my wife or golf or cigars or cars or other things I really like. To me it is fun to talk about the pursuit of watches (gens or reps) sharing the passion for time pieces with others and drawing them into our hobby. Now I am not saying to just by any rep, do some research and buy the one you like and makes you happy. I spent some time looking around here and my taste led me to some of the builders/modders who take a rep and mod it or clean it up to improve it. That suits my eye, that attention to detail. Not because I want to pass it off as a gen but because it looks better to me and when it is on my wrist I will be proud to wear it. You can find them in the TD section.
mymanmatt
The best rep you can buy is one that the watch dealer needs to take a second look at, or tells you he needs to remove the back to be sure. That my friend is a good rep
