dbane883 Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 For those of you that know me, you know I'm not a huge fan of the current version of the TC cases. But with a little work, they are acceptable for an early 16610 or 16800 build. But the challenge is getting the lugholes drilled properly. I've seen some very bad efforts at lughole drilling in a non-lughole case and as such, (next to bevels) is one of the tougher mods to do right. Here's an example of a case I recently worked on for an early 16610 build. Right after drilling: Even at high speed, burrs will inevitably build up around the hole. After a light grinding and repolishing. Along with modest bevel action: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 6
whoopy12 Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Still can't get over how precise you're able to make those bevels: Excellent work as always Y
AsiadeCuba Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 That's amazing makes me want to embark on a matte 16800 build
droptopman Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Wholly smokes dbane, just incredible work here. Now I am wishing I would have had you cut holes and bevels on my TC case. Man that looks great.
jmb Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Geeze, those bevels dang near get my [censored] hard and at my age that ain't no mean feat! I guess if we ever get a member by the name of [censored] he'll be $hit out of luck... >:-|
Frazzle1 Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Still can't get over how precise you're able to make those bevels: Excellent work as always Y I was thinking the exact same thing!
stray_cat Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) Wowwwwww... Superlative, lol but this is in the same league as gen machine work! Will the TC case, correct chamfers, lugholes and proper engravings pass as a gen U serial (97-98) case you think? Edited May 12, 2015 by stray_cat
highoeyazmuhudee Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 very hard mod to do, not for your average weekend modder, too much can and will go wrong. seems you did a great job
quaresma7 Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) I have no words my friend.. Thanks so much for that amazing work! Edited May 12, 2015 by quaresma7
Sub007 Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Wow! That's just amazing! Verzonden vanaf mijn iPad met Tapatalk
dbane883 Posted May 16, 2015 Author Report Posted May 16, 2015 Finally finished off a back-log of work! 6
highoeyazmuhudee Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 do you think a ceramic NO DATE sub dial would fit?
dbane883 Posted May 16, 2015 Author Report Posted May 16, 2015 I believe (gen) 16610 and 116610's dials are the same size..... 27.3mm if I recall correctly. So yes, pretty sure a noob, BP, and of course gen subC dials would fit in the TC cases
Bc1221 Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 absolutely amazing work!! now i REALLY want to convert my TC in a 16800....
pam007 Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 Looks amazing D Keep in mind (not that anyone would notice outside of close up shots) that the 16800 has a shallower rehaut vs a 16610
Robaer Posted May 20, 2015 Report Posted May 20, 2015 Doesn't the TC case also have shallower rehaut than the gen 16610?
watcher Posted May 21, 2015 Report Posted May 21, 2015 Doesn't the TC case also have shallower rehaut than the gen 16610? Yes slightly. V6 is a little better than some older ones in my experience.
jonsydney Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 Amazing work, dBane. Did anyone end up doing a 16800 project, in the end? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
dbane883 Posted June 14, 2015 Author Report Posted June 14, 2015 Yes. A couple have. I'll leave it up to them to post pics of their complete project. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
