Cartel Revised case shape Vintage Rolex model on Perfect Clones

Recommended Posts

I know a few of the guys on here have picked up on the fact that the Cartel Boys introduced a revised case shape with better crown guards. These really are a fantastic base for franken projects. I wonder if a gen 1570 will fit?? I hope the price doesn't go up:g:http://www.pf-818.com/index.php

Enjoy! DH

I tried a gen 1570 with the new cartel case I got from Sead. The movement fits & the stem lines up but it sits too high for the case back to screw in. Maybe a 1520 might fit better.

Great

For you which one is the best ootb between 5513, 5512, 1680 and 1665 ?

Over to the experts. I guess I'd keep it simple maybe a classic 5513. no need to change date wheels etc

I would change a lot on all of them...

But I guess the 5512/5513 is best since you can put a Vietnam-dial straight in (correct size 26mm). If I've understood it correctly the 1680 and 1665-cases take 26 mm dials which is wrong, as correct is 26,5mm.

So a 5512/5513:

- Add a Vietnam-dial
- Add TC-hands
- Add a good Pearl and Yuki-insert
- Add an Athaya Crown+tube 700/702
- Some modding of the Crown guards
- Change to a Clarks/Sternkreutz or best ClassicWatchParts crystal

...

Nice! :)

Still have to drill out bigger lug holes, or?

If these cases will accept a no date rolex 15xx it would be a home run for genuine movement projects cutting $500 to $1000+ off the price.

Here are the 15xx movement thickness measurements again:

1520/30/60/70/80  no date 12.5 ligne (28.5mm)  H = 5.75mm

1525/35/65/75  date 12.5 ligne (28.5mm)  H = 6.30mm

1565/75  date/GMT 12.5 ligne (28.5mm)  H = 6.47mm

1555/56  Day/Date 12.5 ligne (28.5mm)  H = 7.03mm

"I tried a gen 1570 with the new cartel case I got from Sead. The movement fits & the stem lines up but it sits too high for the case back to screw in. Maybe a 1520 might fit better."

Did you try a 1570/75 date or no date mvt?  If a 15xx date mvt is a little bit too thick, a no date might work.

I have a 1520 with 26mm Yuki 5513 dial on it along with MBK, Yuki, and DW case backs. If you want to send the case to me I can try different combos and see what might work...or I could buy the case if you are not going to use it.

The new cartel cases are absolutely great for modding for the bucks imo.. Have a look at my 1680.

1st unmodded- only aged

2nd modded, aged with 702 crown, relumed dial and some more case shaving.

thats a very decent base to work from. that one is modded i take it? cgs, lug holes.

what i would attempt is thinning the bezel ring, top could lose a bit of thickness, dull the teeth out a bit and shave the bottom slightly. is the beveling weak or did you just "age" it softer?

Yeah that one is modded:

-case reshape

-702 crown/tube

-raffles hands (relumed)

-cartel dial (relumed)

-caseback shaved

Beveling is very weak, but i'll do some more work on the case asap...

Bezel is cartel, but have an wso complete bezel assembly incoming.

Bezel insert is also on the way to me.

Cheers

These really look great. I'm on the Perfect Clones mailing list and Josh recently sent out a big email announcement advertising all of the "new" vintage pieces.

Are you guys buying the 2813 versions or the ETA versions?  Is everything else the same with the two, just different hands and movements/dial feet?

Who supplies those Vietnamese dials?  Are they readily available?  Rough budget?  Those look fantastic!
