Bart Cordell
Hello friends !After two pretty builds based on Silix and HR cases, I understand the need for a better Big Crown.I contacted Tonny to see what he could offer. The first case series is not bad, but it takes a lot of work to get a satisfactory result. As I did not find it to my liking, he offered to sell me the case of a complete 6538 build. Pretty chamfers, slightly aged bezel, gen tube and crown.Banco!see what I have received Tonny is a nice guy and a great seller. He was very patient and always answered all my questions clearly. philwongnz
Congrats part, the lug holes seems a bit big (maybe the angle) and the hole opening seems to have some metal residue from drilling. The chamfering seem pretty good but I thought is a bit more wider towards the end so u can actually see it on parts eye view - maybe I am wrong but looks great. How did he do the bezel? Was it nickel or he some how made in gold ish colour? Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk
Bart Cordell
@philwongz Yes there is some drill glitches around the holes. Clearly visible on macro, barely with my presbyopic eyes . And I don't think the holes are too big. I will try some gen spec bars.I do not see what you reproach about chamfers.Bezel is nickel plated, not artificially colored.
dbane883
It's not bad. Gen crown/tube alone are worth $700-1000. the lug holes stress marks are probably a result of too slow drill speed or too dull of a bit or a combination of the both, but can easily be buffed away. They dont look too big to me. congrats
mir36
Thanks for sharing this Bart! A 6538 project is definitely in my future, so the review on Tonny's 6538 offering is much appreciated. Just trying to understand, the 2 different versions he offered you. So version 1, sans the crown was a lot worse compared to version 2 with the crown. Version 2 was a "complete" build - what else does it come with, besides the crown? Bart Cordell
@dbane883 Tonny make a very fair price for tube & crown. Thank you for your informed opinion. Lug chamfers are not as good as yours but I'm satisfied enough. @mir36 He had a nice complete 6538 with 1030 movement, gen hands, repainted dial, and rep rivet bracelet (maybe Yuki) to sell. he offered his own initiative to separate and sell me case and crown Edited October 30, 2016 by Bart Cordell

steve3sc
Congratulations Bart, wear it in good health. Want to hear something funny? Part of me likes the case set without movement, dial, or hands, etc BETTER than a finished watch. Something about seeing all the possibilities that you could go with just kinda revs my engine. Maybe I'm a tad too deep watch-world, right?

stray_cat
I can't wait to see what masterpiece of a dial you will be making for it. Looks like this case set with the gen crown/tube deserves the best, and together with a gen movement, and you basically have something (to me) the next best thing to gen but I would never call it a replica, more like gen with custom touches he he.
Bart Cordell
After I started to prepare a dial, I thought it would be interesting to take some dimensions...
