Bart Cordell Posted September 4, 2017 Author Report Posted September 4, 2017 It's been a while since I was looking for a nice T19 dome for this BC. Some will say this is a detail, I think it’s a big improvement for a vintage look and feel All my thanks automatico and Slay for your help to get this. 1
djulink Posted September 4, 2017 Report Posted September 4, 2017 Looks so good my friend... Enjoy ! 1
Nanuq Posted September 5, 2017 Report Posted September 5, 2017 Boom!! There it is, a Big Crown needs a gorgeous dome just like that. Beautiful. If it was me I might even cut that crystal sidewall down a mm or so. 1
Bart Cordell Posted September 5, 2017 Author Report Posted September 5, 2017 Thanks guys ! Nanuq you’re right. I will reduce the eight later
Nanuq Posted September 5, 2017 Report Posted September 5, 2017 Bart, I had to do this to fit a T39 on my Snowflake (should take a T19) and the results are well worth it.
jasonbaylee Posted September 12, 2017 Report Posted September 12, 2017 Bart, i never get sick but more sick whenever you post this beautiful vintage! "There are more than 1 road to Rome...."
Bart Cordell Posted September 19, 2017 Author Report Posted September 19, 2017 So, I think I have done with this watch.I finally got a nice plexi T19 Dome, and succeed a red depth dial. I was pretty dubious the first hours compared to the previous dial but ultimately I think the effect really succeeded.I will be able to attack his little sister 5512 which is disassembled for two weeks waiting for preparation of a better dial.
Nanuq Posted September 19, 2017 Report Posted September 19, 2017 Let's see a profile shot! That dome is absolutely critical for the completed look of a 50s or 60s dive piece. 1
Bart Cordell Posted September 19, 2017 Author Report Posted September 19, 2017 Let's see a profile shot! That dome is absolutely critical for the completed look of a 50s or 60s dive piece. I have not yet reduced the height of the plexi as you have suggested. I prefer to wait to be able to order another one before risking to ruin this one. I have a second one but it’s reserved for my Phong 5512. Can’t take profile shot at the moment 1
Nanuq Posted September 20, 2017 Report Posted September 20, 2017 It's really easy to lower that dome, Bart. Got a vibrating sander like for carpentry? It works great. Hold the crystal in your bare fingertips and gently press against the vibrating sandpaper, keeping it flat so it cuts the sides down the same all around. I did that to a gen T39 Superdome (rare as heck) and it came out perfect. Summon your courage and go for it! Maybe 1mm is all it will take. The thing to watch for is clearance under the inner surface of the dome, so the hands don't touch. 2
JSebWC Posted September 20, 2017 Report Posted September 20, 2017 Bart that thing is just Fantastic!! Great work!! 1

JoeyB Posted September 20, 2017 Report Posted September 20, 2017 It would need to be very thin, as the decal shows all. Well done! Thank you.
Bart Cordell Posted January 6, 2018 Author Report Posted January 6, 2018 Sun is rare in Brittany, let's seize the opportunity… 4

Bart Cordell Posted November 27, 2018 Author Report Posted November 27, 2018 Last upgrades. New dial and slightly bleached then revarnished insert 3
jimcon11 Posted November 27, 2018 Report Posted November 27, 2018 (edited) I can't tell what's new with the dial, but your 6538 is looking better than ever. I never thought to varnish the insert, the sheen on yours where it catches the light looks a lot like the pics of gen ones, so I guess I'll be trying that now. I have some upgrades for my big crown in the works too 😀 Edited November 27, 2018 by jimcon11
