No need for mods---

Recommended Posts

Hey All! A few days ago, I asked members which watch in their rep collection was the closet to the gen---right out of the box---no modifications. Especially given the recent posts about new reps getting better and better with no need for mods, I thought you might be interested in the responses. Here's the list:

Omega Seamaster (Old version)

Rolex Yachtmaster

Pan 2B (Josh)

EL V2 1950

AP JA

Omega Seamaster Pro (lots of votes!)

Omega GMT (Andrew)

Explorer 2

FM Conquistador

What do you think? Comments? Additions???

All the best---

I don't see a PO on your list I would have thought Neil or Andrews lastest version would have picked up a few votes.

Ken

Ditto. 4th gen PO definitely belongs to that list.

It would nice if you could put a picture of the SMP and tell who is the dealer

Check my Omega guides. All answers are there (and more).

The older version SMP they are talking about is hard to comeby. The new model is quite different. Just open your eyes if your are interested. They showup for sale sometime.

IMO the bezel pearl is horrific. Why can't the pearls be made properly?

Diver watch replicas often have "horrific" pearls... difficult to say why. But PO 4th gen has one of the best rep pearls (yep, it's still quite bad but I've seen much worse). Like the 3rd gen pearl.

You have to keep in mind that huge pics often exaggerate the problem.

Breitling Navitimer, Steelfish and Avenger are very good replicas. Vacheron Constantin Overseas, AP Royal Oak, LOTS of Omegas are very good (SMP, PO, Aqua Terra, Constellation), new TAG Link chronograph 7750, Rolex Explorer I and II, Daytonas, etc. etc.

We are spoiled.

Minor inaccuracies have been noted in the IWC GST. I have one, but I don't expect to be called out on it.

The Pan 192 has been called out for a few inaccuracies as well, but seeing that it was a limited edition (and Pans aren't that common to begin with), those inaccuracies seem fairly picayune and inconsequential.

I think I could hand either of those watches over to a dealer, and unless they happened to be an expert in those brands I don't think I'd be called out.

Rolexes are the most at risk from being called out, just because they are the best known and most imitated. That is one reason why I only have one, a YM, and even then I don't wear it barely as often as some of my others. Even if it had smaller or fewer flaws, it would probably be called first.

So to answer the original question about which models are most accurate and require the least mods, my answer would be that it depends-- on the circles you run in, the watch models involved, and the quality of the watch that you purchase.
