  1. Reading between the lines, you're really looking for a birth year vintage piece. But you want the right watch to hurry up and appear, so you're frustrated. You're considering something else as a "solution" to scratch the itch. Don't ever do that. It's not the piece you're looking for, and you will sell it later, lose money on the deal, and regret it, And you'll be right back to where you are today. I've done this many times, buying something that's "almost good enough" and every time I've sold it, lost money, and regretted it. If something is worth having, it's worth working and waiting for. Every one of my keepers involves at minimum 4 years of watching and waiting. One of them was almost 20 years. In the end, it's nice to have the right one.

  3. 2 totally different watches. vintage has a many magical qualities. 1. It's light and flies under the radar 2. It's got history... boy if it could talk... 3. perfect size and comfort for my wrist of 7 inches 4. patina patina patina modern has many magical qualities 1. it's ugly 2. it's fat 3. it's blingy 4. it's heavy If it was me, I would get a rep of the 116710 and see how you like it. It's 90% same as crappy gen, and It's only a couple hundred bucks. Much harder to get get a good rep of a 1675 gilt.

  6. I would never buy a new Rolex, everyone has one and they're all the same. Vintage has something new will never have and that something is coolness plain and simple. No reason why parts should be a problem since the movements are pretty much the same and you can always get parts. I own a '76 1680 and have had vintage pieces running in the 10s of thousands but for me this plain old 1680 fits the bill. A '66 is still within reach but if you wait too long it won't be, vintage prices will always increase in value. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. My take on it... Rolex will be manufacturing current catalog references every day/every month/every year for years to come. Vintage pieces aren't being made any longer... As you've discovered, finding that grail vintage piece for you has become quite difficult and will only continue to become more and more elusive; 10 years from now, I bet you'll still be able to get a 116710 BLNR for a decent price... I say keep up the hunt and find that needle in the haystack!

  12. If it's not the exact piece you are looking for, pass and wait. You won't be happy when your grail does show up!

  14. Try ST bezel assembly. Gen spec. Needs a good wear and polish though

  15. If it's any comfort, I cursed twice as much as you did when I saw that picture. Hope Toro come thru for you. By the way, the insert is curved sapphire, not ceramic.

  17. I'd say about 1mm longer than a 5513 minute hand. Here's how 5513 hands look on my 1016: If that would have been 1016 hands they should just have touched the minute hashes. To me this is no big deal anymore. See so many 1016s for sale with replacement sub hands. But would of course be cool if there was a source for aftermarket hands!

  18. If you want "best in class" don't get the open case back. Ignore the whole "ultimate version" BS. Just PM a TD and ask for the "v7" from JF maker. With i serial, closed case back
