  1. My 1974 model 815. Love the vintage Breitlings!
  2. Things won't be down for too long, so don't worry. As has been said many times before, patience in this game is essential. Being born in the year of the Tiger (48 this year), I'm interested to see what this year will bring. My wife (Chinese) will be celebrating with friends next week. I will be working. My watches have taken a back seat to my house renovations, and the construction and equipping of a home recording studio. I'm all set except for the device that has the 'talent' button.
  3. Anyone care to divulge the source of these, either by PM or in open forum?
  4. warren, is the case on yours gold or stainless? (lovely btw, and great photos)
  5. Love the vintage Breitlings. Mine (1974 model 815)
  6. I left the service as a junior officer almost 30yrs ago, having been an NCO previously, after a stint of service with the UN in Cyprus. Michael, the Vandoos had quite the rep back in the day! Still do. Quite the fighters.
  7. Peewee Herman used to pull it off.
  8. Just tossing this thought out there.... Perhaps your wife pays too much for her hairstyling?
  9. 10 years ago, I moved back east from the west coast of Canada. I used 2 cubic foot moving boxes, and literally dumped the contents of my desk and cupboards into them. I sent all 25 boxes by regular parcel post to my parents' address, then loaded my car and drove with the rest of my stuff. Not one box cost more than $24 to mail (most were 15-$20), and they all made it within 1 week with no damage whatsoever. I made absolutely no attempt to pad anything, and not a single item got damaged. I suspect if I were to try the same now, it would cost many times more, and I may not be so lucky with delivery time or condition.
  10. To learn to work on the movements, I would suggest first the TZ course, then haunt ebay for the occasional box lot of old movements that can found there really cheaply. That gives you plenty of little parts to practice on where the outcome of your poking is of no consequence.
  11. I think we have quite a few GTA members here. Perhaps a GTG is in order?
  12. The various pawn shops around Queen/Church have a remarkable number of reps on display. They are also very up front about them being reps if you ask to examine one. Most are bad quality, but at least you can get a chance to examine and compare to gen in some cases.
  13. Nicely repped, but since Oris divers watches can be had on the used market for the price of a couple of new reps, I wonder why so much effort was put into repping this so well rather than a tier 1 brand.
  14. She's about to write her CFA exam, so she had done a complete evaluation of my financial (mis)management over the years. She's 20yrs younger than me, and I had my mid-life crisis in my 30s, so I'm way behind my peers in absolute financial terms, but walked back into my old career after 7yrs absence with no loss of seniority or pay. I'm gawdawful with finances. I've always spent what I make.
  15. So my wife recently surveyed my hobbies/vices. It seems I have 4 guitars and various amplifiers, 6 bicycles worth more than her Mercedes, and various watches. Out of the blue she told me that I can add one genuine watch per year to my collection at no more than $5k per. I think I should start treating her better....
  16. I must say that I prefer the UN rubber strap on this one. The bracelet makes it blend in with other bracelet type watches, but that strap is a unique work of art.
  17. No point in changing the movement just for the sake of it. The 21j movements in my experience are quite robust. Replace it if and when it breaks.
  18. I'm not sure what they've used to construct their website, but the first time I visited, Kaspersky lit up like a Christmas tree with multiple warnings of malicious exploit scripts. The second time I tried, their site crashed Firefox on me.
  19. I don't know of any courier company that will pay out a claim on jewelery. Horror stories from Paypal are the reason I would sooner give things away on this forum (or others) than sell them. My Paypal account is for purchases only.
  20. Wasn't Nanuq the one who devised the torture testing methods?
  21. He valve looks too high. Just kidding. It's a classic. Wear it well and pass that one on to the next generation.
  22. Nice. Oris has some of the most unique looking watches on the market today. Being a tier 2 company, they offer great value too. I personally have 3 from them, a Chronoris, a white face TT1 Titan, and a Miles Tonneau. I do like the Flight Timer, though.
  23. If you want it to retain any value, you will need the service papers from Rolex. Given the difficulty sourcing genuine parts these days, I would be inclined to send it to the Rolex service center.
  24. I've gotten a lot of gator and croc from the folks who advertise frequently on TZ. All have been outstanding quality.
