  1. It seems to depend on where it enters the country. Vancouver is fast. Mississauga is no less than a week to clear items.
  2. Timex had so many people write to them in the late '60s to early '70s asking them why their watches always showed 1:50 in their ads that they produced a tv commercial explaining why (and advertising their watches at the same time), with a big cardboard clock and a guy moving the hands about. I was young when they put that ad out, but I too questioned it, even as a child. iirc, their script talked about hand overlap if taken at random times, and they didn't want people to think their watches only had one hand, and they talked about the hands framing the word 'Timex' to emphasize it.
  3. Welcome! I too call Toronto home. Perhaps we should think about a GTG when the weather improves a bit?
  4. I think someone has already come to the same conclusion as you as it appears to have been removed.
  5. I don't believe it has changed from then until now. I just measured my genuine Speedy Pro, and the 145.0022 case is 42mm.
  6. Ain't no cure for the summertime blue.
  7. It's hot in the summer (working around steam systems), and when a unit is shut down, it's a constant 'hurry up' mode of working to try to get it back online (huge $ involved). The rest of the time, it's like the movie "Groundhog Day". Every shift is deja vue. Boring routine, over and over. The amount of paperwork we have to do just to provide an auditable trail for work performed is staggering. The money, though, is fantastic, and does make up for some of the negatives.
  8. Success has to do with the enjoyment of your time away from your job. You are not your job. If you go to any 10th yr school reunion, you will see every guy walking around with a ruler in one hand and their d**k in the other. After 20yrs, the rulers are all gone, as people realize what's truly important. I work in Nuclear Operations at a large generating station. I hate most days I'm there. Fortunately, I am very senior and get a lot of holidays. That, combined with a shift schedule that has a lot of time off built in, and I have plenty of time to unwind and take care of my wife and dog and do the things that take away life's stresses. Trust me when I say that a 6 figure salary cannot make up for the days when you do nothing but watch the clock. I had far more job satisfaction working for a specialty retail store many years ago.
  9. Always carry a briefcase that has a dedicated pen spot. Lose the backpack, if that's what you currently use. I still have the Montblanc I bought 25yrs ago in university. Get the non-bling one first. My $.02.
  10. I tried that with my Speedy II just a couple of weeks ago. They sent back a form email referring me to their .pdf document which only lays out serial numbers by year. They won't give out specific information about a particular watch anymore unless you send it to them.
  11. However, gray market Omegas (of which there are tens of thousands) have no serial on the lug. I have a SMP Chrono - fully genuine, but no serial on the lug. Same with my Speedmaster II, which can, however, be dated to 1969 by the movement serial. I don't know if that vintage had the serial on the lug, though. The other issue with Omega is the ready availability of replacement cases. I have a current Speedmaster, genuine in every way, but is just awaiting a new movement. It, however, has never graced an AD, having been built entirely from new, genuine Omega parts obtained over the last 3 years. The movement dating, and the trim of the rest of the watch being accurate for the age of the movement/case, is the only way to determine the probability of an older Omega being completely genuine (see the Omega Red Book for this info). If you are considering buying a newer used one, they pop up for sale all the time, and it is a simple matter to wait for one with complete documentation.
  12. As on the Blackbird rep, the date window in all is wider and has a thicker bar separating the 2 numerals. For this reason among several other possible reasons, I believe a gen dial would not work.
  13. Yep, it's just over the top enough to be plausible (if you're a pimp).
  14. Welcome! It's always distressing to see how many newcomers have previously been taken by scam sites. It seems if you Google a simple piece of watch info, you get 2 or 3 pages of scam sites popping up before getting anywhere near the real info. Is it any wonder our hobby has attracted the unfortunate attention of so many official agencies?
  15. I paid $700CDN from the original owner, who works in the trade. It has been immaculately cared for - my finger smudges aside.
  16. Why bother with a rep for a dress watch (unless your tastes run to Patek)? Things like this are available for a reasonable price. 35mm on a camel skin band. Circa 1979 iirc. Someday soon I'll pull the back off again to check the movement serial and date it properly. Jeez, that was weird. Photobucket attached the wrong image twice.
  17. Curse you, Paneraifreak! You had my blood pressure through the roof on TZ with the price you're asking until I realized it was quartz. I'm probably not the only one who emailed you in a rush without looking closely. (or am I?) Seriously though, I think you made the right choice deciding to keep the Rolex. -G
  18. I haven't played in a while. This has been on my wrist a lot lately. Excuse the bad photo.
  19. If you start selling things and accepting PP, you should open a separate bank account definitely, as the entire account can be frozen if someone opens a dispute until you agree to settle (refund). Once you buy more than $1000 on your CC, you will need to link your bank account. This takes time (several days) to complete. After that, you will have the option still of paying with your CC, although PP will strongly discourage it. This is because if you have a dispute with a seller and go through your CC company for a chargeback, PP is SOL. One other payment option you will have is an e-check. What the heck use they are to you is beyond me. Never use them. It takes up to 2 weeks for the funds to clear. In the meantime, they have your money, and the seller will get antsy. If at any time you let your linked CC expire, and you no longer have a valid 'backup' source for your PP account, it will default to an e-check (annoyingly). The reason for needing the backup source of funding always available is that if you make a PP direct withdrawal to pay for something, the money does not immediately come out of your bank account. PP simply checks to see if you have enough, and a pending transaction is registered with your bank. It actually takes a day or 2 for the transaction to show up and the money to actually leave your account. There is nothing preventing you from then taking all the money out of your account and leaving PP high and dry, with your goods on the way to you. PP then goes after the seller for the funds. Hope this helps. I have used PP for several years and over 100 transactions. Never a problem, except when I let my linked CC expire and forgot to update the new card info with PP. Hence my experience with the e-check. Become PP verified. You will have far more credibility with vendors.
  20. Have a great trip, Rob. I'm envious, not having the time for a vacation myself in a long time. I read your note regarding your new capabilities list and would love to have a copy. However, the combination of a move to a new house and 2 recently wiped computers has left me without your contact information from the emails we exchanged and the watches you did for me before. I currently wish to have the Breitling model 815 we spoke about quite some time ago serviced finally, and would like to book it in for the winter sometime. Would it be too much trouble (or out of line) to ask for a copy of your list sent through the forum to me? Many thanks -GH
  21. Best gator strap I have seen is Camille Fournet. I have one on one of my DW Daytonas. Pricey as hell. TWB strap is quite good, but doesn't get the comfy looking extra wrinkles that the Camille Fournet strap develops over time, as the hide used is a bit thicker on the WB strap. That being said, the WB strap is quite well made and worth the price. Kurt is also a stand-up guy (I have met him and done business face to face) with a gorgeous collection of watches. The ones pictured on his website are from his own collection.
  22. I just hope your pronunciation of Guangzhou is better than mine. My (Chinese) wife laughs every time I pronounce it. Apparently my way means 'naked pig'.
  23. At last count, my old boss at work had over 10,000 unread, unanswered (and unanswerable) email messages in his inbox. It is totally out of control. I feel for you Zig.
  24. Jeez, I got so engrossed in the picture, I didn't even notice the price! Of course it's a rep! I just hope the purchaser realizes it. The seller had to be aware.
  25. Does this cannon pinion look a bit short to anyone else, or is it my bad eyes? http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg...0&rid=31626 Please copy and paste address into your browser.
