Is four enough? Strange how you can get hooked on a colour...

The 111 looks like a gen to me, is it yours? The movement is the best way to tell, any movement shots?

chris5264 replied to cableguy's topic in General Discussion
Damn it,,,I was just there this weekend for work and walked right by. Oh well,,,,,,,good to know for next time. thanks. -
So nice I'm not sure what to say..................this piece might have actually reawakened my passion for these vintage models

I got this a few weeks ago, but wanted to wait until I got the right straps and I ended up getting two today for father's day. First, I would like to give Tourby a huge

Anyone Into Vintage Pocket Watches?
chris5264 replied to crystalcranium's topic in General Discussion
I almost picked up a vintage pocket watch today for around 300 (usd) but then I thought, What would be on my wrist? can you carry a pocket watch and wear one on the wrist at the same time? The vintage pocket watch is very tempting,,,,,,,,,but the wrist might feel strange....... -
What are we doing? Gen Steelfish are $1300!
chris5264 replied to Shabber's topic in The Breitling Area
I basically agree with Shabber's point....While 300 for the rep sounds like a great deal, I've had too many experiences where something happens after a few weeks and the very nice, "perfect" rep is laying around on my watch table and I'm trying to find a case tube, or some other part somewhere online that I can find to replace it. In particular I've been tempted by the Steelfish rep, if I knew I could own this trouble free for even a year,,,I would order one right now,,,, as in immediately,,,but I would always be waiting for some mysterious thing to go wrong and for me, that takes the pleasure out of it. Lately, I've been doing used gens around 200-1,000,,,all trouble free. -
LOL.....that is a great collection. It reminded me of similar stupid thing that happened about two years ago. My daughter had just had just filled her diaper with some nasty stuff and she needed an emergency change. We were going into Wal-Mart and my wife and I walked in with me holding the obviously soiled diaper. On walking into the store, the Wal-Mart greeter looked at me and asked

Well, it does sound like he was a jerk, I mean, why just come out and say a person's watch is a rep? I know people like to show off their knowledge but he could have been less obvious. A few weeks ago I was at a 5k run and this guy had a panerai, in fact, it actually fell off during the run and he lost some time going back to pick it up, I think the bracelet came apart. I later talked to the guy and it was an obvious rep, I mean the crystal had a huge scratch that you would only see with mineral crystal, no ar and the bracelet was all pins, I'm pretty sure the gen has some screws in it. Anyway, I admit I was tempted, but what good would it have served? IMO it was much better to have a short talk about watches and leave it at that.

My only vintage. I can see why people collect these,,,the 6105 is on of my recent favorites. it came with the original dial which I will probably put back on one of these days.
-
Ok, not a rep, but just got a few hours ago and the dial and bracelet are very nice, at great risk I would say this is pretty close to the seamaster
-
If one could fix this problem,,,,,,,I really believe all other problems would also be solved.

Which rep do you have on the wrist for Haevy duty?
chris5264 replied to elprimerozen's topic in General Discussion
Seikos make great beaters and IMHO are the absolute best buy for the money out there. I used to suggest reps to people interested in a new watch,,,now,,only Seiko. -
I know nothing about economics, but I would guess a place is in for trouble when the fishermen discover there are plenty of other places to fish.

It's not much, but I'm proud of myself.

I think there is actually a tool to bend spring bars. http://www.ofrei.com/page252.html I'm not familiar with the tags,,,but seems like it could have a bent spring bar. Also, congrats on the bracelet..those things can be tricky. -
The two watches we need replicas of
chris5264 replied to crystalcranium's topic in General Discussion
Both are great watches, but the Doxa is next on my list. The problem with both gen watches is how difficult it is to try it on and get a feel for the watch. If the reps were really cheap, it would be nice to try out to see if you like it before buying the gen. As it is,,,I will have to take a chance and see if I like the Doxa when it comes in the mail. -
Looks very nice,,,I guess it makes sense to keep it, but for some reason when I put a good watch together I end up selling it. It is very cool to make a watch that someone else will enjoy.
-
"but; these took some SERIOUS time. and I'd have to check a few times for any dust after finishing the job. the problem with many watchsmiths is clear on my head now; a watchsmith cannot give me his hours and perfect dedication for a lousy $30..." Interesting,,,,,I've come to a similar conclusion. With watches, some things really require skill and you can't get around that, but there are other things that are not that skill dependent but rather depend on patience and a lot of time. Dust on the dial or under the crystal is a great example, I spent about 45 mins this morning making sure there was no dust in the watch I was putting together. I actually took it outside in direct sunlight from various angles and had to take it apart at least 3 times before I couldn

I'm sure there are no reps but it looks like you can pick one up around 1,000 (usd). I can remember actually thinking how much I didn't like this watch, the lugs were too small and case seemed wrong,,then after getting into seiko divers I changed my opinion and it somehow is on my list. Any other Doxa freaks out there?
-
I'll give my opinion, for what ever it's worth. I've seriously slowed down on the reps, in fact, besides a Davidsen pam with no markings, I don't own any right now. I just got frustrated with the overall quality. So, for me it really is a down time for rep related topics. However, I think this place has some great people that simply like watches in general, so while it may feel slow, things will pick up. Even if this place is titled RWG, I think of it as just another watch forum made up of your typical watch freaks.

I've shipped a few times from Penn to Canada and it always seems really long,,,,,as in two weeks or more. I'm not sure why

This seems like a useful database to work with, I found all the watches I needed on here. http://www.orbita.net/pages/17100.htm
-
YES,,,I've seen that one and seriously thought about it,,,,but one thing,,perhaps you can tell me. Is there a balance wheel in there? For me, a real mechancial watch has to have a balance wheel or I'm not interested. I have four seikos right now and on my fifth,,,,a 6105-8110.

GEN with Solid Ceramic Case+Ti w/ Swiss movement: Arctos GPW K1.
chris5264 replied to solicitor's topic in Other Brands Area
Interesting,,,this is a really good example of something I was a bit slow to catch onto. The last 7 watches I picked up were all gens,,,,and guess what? Not a single one ended up on my watch table. All had great lum,,WR to at least 150, keeping great time and each was between 100-400 (usd). Your example is a bit more, but certainly worth the money considering what you are getting. -
I just got into these seiko divers myself. These are great watches to be obessed with, first because of the price. But there are also some very cool mods that one can do, (for ex. that's a very nice one evildee), and they even have a history and sort of cult following. I thought my wife would be more excited that I'm into an inexpensive brand for a change, but she just looked at me like, oh this is great? I think either one would work. The size listed on the bay model is 40, so the monster is a bit larger at 42. Also, I would consider the lug size, the bad news for me is that the monster's lugs are 20, but the 007s are 22, which is better.
