I’m not sure which is worse, being a watchaholic or being a watchwhore. My problem is that I totally get into a watch, but I can’t commit and seem to be in it for the short-term pleasures of a new watch. I end up having some watch for a few weeks and selling it for something else. Can't wait to see the final project, maybe I can rent it from you for a few weeks?

When I first saw it I got excited because I've been waiting on this one to come out but I think there are two problems that will stop me from even thinking of buying this one. First, the size is way too small. I will wait for the 46mm to come out. Second, if it is a pure automatic with no winding, I couldn't stand that nice big crown doing nothing.
-
I guess if it was 6mm thick I wouldn't care if it was plastic. And, that is a good point, I shouldn't really judge the russian movements because I've never had a single one serviced, ever.
-
I really like the vintage panerai that have come out and have two. I don't care for the russian movements and the plastic "crystal". I have three or four of these russian movements and they seem to hold up but probably not as good as the 6497s. My one vintage is pretty unpredictable, it will keep good time, then not. And you can't just slip in a 6497 because the hands and dial feet are different. And the idea of using plastic is silly, I already have serious scratches on both. And, it just bugs me having plastic on my watch. However, I can't find any vintages that at least use mineral.

Thanks so much for the nice words. Here are a few new pics, I decided to polish the crownguard. I still don't think it is right.

slpf? Where did you get that case???

Great pics of the 212, I have to get one of those (and not sell it). Starting the week with my 183...

I wouldn't ever say I'm exclusively into reps, I am just into very cool watches and don't want to pay a lot. I still haven't found another watch around 200 (usd) that competes with the overall quality of reps. With that said, I have found that my attraction to watches often reflects my overall mood. The only time I'm not into watches is when I'm not into anything. Maybe its just a tempory thing...Have a drink and check out the new panerai movement...

PM I received from the guy Elliot (TC Straps) who said he changed...
chris5264 replied to V's topic in General Discussion
It certainly was a nasty pm, however I find it totally rare these days for anyone to apologize for anything. Most of the time, in traffic, someone cuts me off, and then flips me off. It takes a major step in self-reflection to think for a moment that we did something wrong, and then to apologize for it. I know it is hard to let go of things, but just something to consider. Of course, I’m a psychologist that believes people are innately good, a belief further encouraged by a bottle of Italian red wine, so what do I know? -
What do you guys say when asked if its real or rep??
chris5264 replied to djtimodj's topic in General Discussion
Not that long ago I'm not sure what I would have said, at this point, literally with pride I would tell them it is a rep. Just a few weeks ago I was in the AD and took my 176H, took it off and handed it to the guy and told him I paid less then 200. It is real sapphire, real Ti and a very cool watch for under 200. I'm not saying it is always silly to buy a gen, but I'm done apologizing for having a rep on. -
I just ordered a fiddy from Joshua with the CN movement and was pretty excited to see this as a replacement movement. I would think the price would be well below 150 (usd). I mean, in many ways converting the fake swans neck into a functional one seems to be just making a screw that works. I'm sure it's more difficult than that, but I can't see the price being over 150.

I feel a bit indecisive myself this weekend.

Need advice. I'm considering buying this mm20
chris5264 replied to chris5264's topic in General Discussion
obvious bump,,,ok I'll even take bad advice. -
I've been light on funds lately but would really like to get a mm20, this one is about the best deal I can imagine because it is already vintaged. what do you think? http://www.network54.com/Forum/246582/mess...%24500++shipped.

Seen this on the P forum and couldn't understand
chris5264 replied to V's topic in General Discussion
If you can figure out why the gen forums don't consider the mm20 and 1938a replicas I'll give you all the cash in my bank account (rwg that is). I remember a recent post on a gen panerai forum about a project watch which was basically rep parts, at least the case (the newer 3436 vintages) and no one said anything. http://www.network54.com/Forum/265104/thre...Panerai+Project A cool project, but I can't figure out why some can post reps why others get their head on the block for it. -

Isn't that a 1938a, from the retrospect watch company? http://www.retrospectwatch.com/ Generally, the 1938a isn't considered a replica (by this I mean you can post about it on various panerai forums without having your head cut off). I had one, it was about 600 USD and was a really, really nice watch. Case and crystal were a step above the reps, but the lum was about the same. -
This sounds like a great project, I want that movement, I really like the finger bridges on the gold one. IMO I would go with the blank dial, just to make the watch more original. I mean, this will be so far from a gen 1950, why have it say 1950 on the dial?
-
I enjoy sending this reply to an insulting low offer "sorry, sold it at asking price" I sold my gen pam for 3300 (which was great deal since it was practically new) and got a few offers at 2800. A really low offer means the person thinks you are ignorant or desperate, niether is a compliment.
-
I'll start putting some aside, thanks, looks like a good deal.

Great pics of the pilot. That watch is on my list, any idea what the price is like?
-
I'm still waiting for their big pilot to come out. I've emailed and it seems like it will be soon. Hopefully, it will be around 500 (usd). Nice picture, they all seem pretty good quality.
-
In my experience, some of it is about the price. A 100 dollar (us) watch goes fast and easy, anything in the 300-500 range will be slower with lots of people showing some interest but no committment. The only part of this I don't enjoy is waiting for it to get to the person and get there in working order.

Yes, the bezel and crytal are also JFs. I totally agree, a better finish and larger crystal than a typical rep. What does yours look like? can you post a pic?
-
Very nice, where did you get the case and movement??
-
This project has been in progress for at least 4 months. The case and dial are from Jimmyzfu. Very nice, good quality and lum is good. I had to install the crystal in the bezel and caseback. The movement and hands are from davidsen, again very nice and is keeping perfect time, notice there are no recessed pin problems. The CG is from a 112 rep base and the crown is from the last RWG purchase (I forget who I got it from but it was the last crown ad here), not bad and fit jimmy's case tube perfect. Also, thanks to The Zigmeister for help trimming down the longer seconds hand pin. There is something about putting a watch together that emotionally connects you to it. also, I like that there is no name anywhere on the watch or movement.
