Thanks for the comments guys! I did shoot Narikaa a PM a week or so ago but haven't heard back yet. Don't know if he is away or busy. I looked at the PT 1680 a while back and wasn't crazy about it. I was hoping to have just a simple dial swap since I like most everything else about the watch. Thanks again for the comments!!!

Hi Guys, I have been wanting to change my red 1680 MBK to a white for a while. I had placed an order with ETZ but have since given up hope after the last few months. I ended up filing a PP dispute and got my funds back, so I didn't lose anything. The problem is I still want to change dials. I have placed a couple of wtb ads but haven't heard anything. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a white MBW/MBK 1680 dial and also a 93150 hollow link bracelet, and who to contact? Thanks in advance!!!!!

Thanks for the link and for the .PDF!!! That looks like an amazing resource to have. Too bad the price is a bit steep.

I am trying to figure this one out until I can hear back about the rate. Does anyone know if a 1560/65 hacks? I was reading on the net that the 1560/65 was used until about 1967. Does this seem correct. Also, didn't the hack mechanism come out in the early 70's? The movement in question does indeed hack, so I am even more confused. I am hoping to hear about the rate tomorrow and will post the answer. Thanks and sorry for the ramble.

Other than the rates, is there a way to distinguish the two? Thanks!!!!

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same thing. I did a quick google search for 1570 and balance guard and found a link. It has a movement marked 1570 with the balance guard, but who knows if it is reliable. Doing some more looking, it looks like there is a hole in the same spot of the mainplate in all of the 1570's I looked at. I don't know if it is the same size or coincidence. I am hoping that it is a 1570 with added balance guard. They are taking it to a watchmaker to have the rate verified. Thanks again!!!

Hi Guys, Can anyone tell me what calibers used a hairspring guard? I have been offered a movement with a 1570 automatic bridge but it has a hairspring guard. I have looked through my parts listings and see that 1560/1565's came with one but wasn't aware that 1570's did as well. Is this the real deal or is it possible that the movement is a 1565 with a 1570 auto bridge? Thanks in advance!!!!!

Thanks Freddy, Most of the movements I have seen have a screwed balance with microstella screws. I am assuming that this one still uses microstella screws but am going to ask. After posting, I searched for more pictures and noticed a few others with smooth balances. I think they are gen but don't know why the difference. Thanks for the help!!!!

Hi Guys, Can you tell me if all balances fir the 1570 have screws on the rim? One I am looking at does not seem to. Didn't know if later ones did not. Thanks!!!!

If you replace the hour wheel, you may also run into problems wen fitting the minute and second hand. Jules Borel lists 6 different heights for the hour wheel (1.01, 1.26, 1.51, 1.76, 2.00, 2.26), 2 for the cannon pinion (1.95, 2.20), and 6 for the fourth wheel (4.15, 5.05, 5.30, 5.55, 5.80, 6.05). If you can measure the height of the hour wheel, we may be able to tell you what you need.

Thanks guys!!! I decided to go the lumi route since it seems to be the most reasonably priced when going franken. I already have the insert and hands now. I am still looking for a dial, but am in no hurry. Thanks again for the confirmation!!!!!

Thanks redwatch!!! I haven't used the hand gauge more than a handful of times. It does come in "handy" but it is pretty expensive if you don't use it often. Thanks again!!!!

Hi guys, I just got these hands in the mail today and just wanted to double check with the experts as to their genuineness. They were billed as luminova hands for a 1665/1680. I don't know if there is a difference in the hands for a 1680 vs. a 1665. They look okay to me but I am still a noob. They also measured 80/130 on my hand gauge (which I believe is correct for a 1570 movement). Sorry for the bad picture but this was the best I could get with my phone. Thanks in advance!!!!

Hey Guys, I am waiting on several parts to come in (or become available) and need to keep busy, so I decided to do a little modding today. I have PT 1665 case that I am not using and wanted to practice crown guard modding and possibly making a HEV. Seeing Ubi's case gave me the idea. I have them shaped pretty well (I think) but I was wondering if there is anything that can be done to the area that surrounds the crown itself. In order to get the correct shape, that area has a flat section. Looking at Ubi's picture, I don't see one and was wondering what you do to make that area smooth from point to point instead of having a flat section. It may be something that can't be avoided but I am trying to keep myself busy. I would take pictures of the ones I did today but my camera is in the shop. Thanks in advance!!!!!

Project wrap up; Rolex 5514

Saying that is beautiful just doesn't do it justice!!!!! I always enjoy reading your posts Ubi and have learned a great deal from your projects. This one surely doesn't disappoint and I love the detailed pictures!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!! -
Thanks for the information guys. I didn't mean to start a debate. I like the functionality of the lume but I also do admire the looks of a great vintage piece. I would think that a gen dial that is vintage would be higher than a gen service dial. I would have to have a rep dial and hands relumed anyway, so I think that I will try and find a lumi dial. I have seen them before, i just don't know what to expect to pay. Thanks again!!!!

Thanks for the tips. I think that the Clark's hands are nice, but you can still tell a difference if you compare them to gen hands. I was just thinking that it might be be simpler in the long run to find a lumi dial and hands. Speaking of hands.... Ofrei lists the hand size for the 1570 to be 80/120/20 and julesborel lists them as 80/130/20. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks!!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply Nanuq! I appreciate you sharing your experiences I actually don't mind it. I had a 5513 that had a service dial and hands and it was beautiful. I am still trying to figure out my options as far as dials and hands go. I figured that a rep dial will cost about $150-$400 depending on what you get. Then the hands and the cost and time of reluming them. I was thinking that I would probably be out at least $300-$350 with just that. I was figuring that the Luminova dial and hands would probably be the cheapest gen to find. I just don't know how often they appear and what to expect to pay. Thanks again!!!!!

Hi Guys, I was wondering how often Luminova dials and hands come up for a GWSD. Also, what would a fair price be for the set? After seeing vlydog's beautiful 1680 with Luminova dial hands, it got me thinking. I would love to have one that glows, and not having to send a dial and hands off to be relumed is a plus. So, where would the best place to look for one other than eBay? Thanks in advance!!!!

The seller did say that it was a silver date wheel. One last question, should a rail dial 1665 hack? I think that rail dials were about 5.7-6 mil serial numbers. Thanks!!!!

Thanks for the comments Stilty. you don't happen to have a pic of one with a 26.6mm diameter do you? Also, does this one look correct? Thanks!!! ]

Thanks for the information and the pictures! That should help me make the right decision when the time comes. Thanks again for the quick info!!!
