    Rolex # 2

You beat me to it Alligoat. One of my favorite watches but first thing I did was change the pearl. Then went to a gen insert and pearl. Now I'm waiting for the WM9 version. This hobby just keeps getting more and more expensive.
  3. If you're asking about the gen, I don't know. But the rep has lume only on the hands and it's not very bright.
  4. Generally when I hit "view new content" it will say "no new content". Then when I hit it the second time new content appears. Anyone else notice this.
  5. HE valve is functional on these.
  6. Same watch and same problem. I finally went with the black. But looking at yours again. I really like the silver.
  7. There are a lot of people smarter than I am here, but what I've gleaned from reading is that there are about 5 different sizes(depending on which eta model). The standard canon pinion will work with a couple of the higher hour and minute wheels. The highest is about 1 MM taller than the normal size 2 set. This one definitely needs a canon pinion change. Somewhere there is a table of sizes in one of the Eta parts manuals. I just can't find it right now. The standard size (2) won't work though. If anyone has a link handy to the Eta parts diagram, I'm sure that's where I saw it.
  8. "Roling" on eBay used to be the best source. He hasn't had any lately though.
  9. I think the 11 is right. That would be to center it in the date window. Otherwise the space between the two 1's would look funny.
  10. They are well worth the effort. The SS/white gold below is now on a gen vintage Jubilee bracelet.
  11. Start here:Birth of a Franken The hardest part about getting the right movement is making sure you have one where the pin heights for the hands are tall enough. The "normal" movement will not allow the hands to clear the dial surface. Also, go to Clark Watch Parts on eBay for hands. His user name is Nostalgia_2000, I think.
  12. I've bought gen DJ dials from $50 to $200.
  13. Pop the bezel off with a razor blade and the crystal will probably come off with it. Just replace it and press the bezel back in place. It's a press fit between the case and the crystal. I suppose you should glue the new crystal in if you are expecting to make it waterproof.
  14. You're both right. Manually winding is hard on the movement but...... What he's saying is that you can't over wind an automatic. Which is also true.
  15. Welcome, lots of Floridians around here.
  16. EDIT: Woops, You already saw that. Never mind.
  17. Sounds like an interesting project. I will certainly defer any advice on modding and aging to the experts. But, I would imagine you wouldn't want to relume with SL. The original tritium lume would probably be close to zero by now. Good luck with this one.
  18. + 1 more for Acetimer. Quietest timer you can buy.
  19. Interesting reading. But unfair comparison. The Steve McQueen was actually his personal watch unlike the Paul Newman. Sure wish I had one of those double red Cartiers.
  20. I tried that out on a Sub, a UPO, and a 42mm PO and it didn't do a thing for me. Sent it back the next day.
  21. From what I recall the eBay seller JO has the better insert and Watchmaterial has the better pearl.
  22. I do like that movement though. Even if you can't see it. Amazingly close to a gen considering what they have to work with.
  23. Having a $15 movement serviced makes no sense financially. It would cost almost as much as a new watch.
  24. Go over to RepGeek and check AJoeSmith's section. He had lot's of them that were taken out for replacement with 4813s. I think he was selling them for about $15. He might still have some of the high beat 4813s available also.
