It does look like an old crystal in the photos and if that is the effect you are looking for then i think you have a good idea, how does it look to the eye , I dont suppose you have any old crystal to compare it with????

It is well done and very comfy, but it does add quite a bit of weight to the watch.

I use a presto begeon hand puller with a thin filn of clear polythene over the hands, that way the hands lift of together and they are not touched by the tools

once it is a couple of mm out of centre you can tap it out with a hammer and drift, i have found a few tight ones because of dirt and crap on the pins

Loupe with a head band mate, i use a 3.5 and a 10, the 10 is a bit strong unless you are working on very fine work
