  3. 197 and synthetic saphire is real saphire the only other sort comes in an an expencive ring form blue in colour and would make it a real expencive and not very usable watch with that as glass! The only issue here is that the wording synthetic has been used as a bit of a scam to sell watches with mineral glass. Synthetic Sapphire: It is a very hard, transparent material made of crystallizing aluminum oxide at very high temperatures. Chemically, synthetic sapphire is the same as the natural sapphire used in jewelry, but without the coloring agents that give the gemstone its various hues. When it is heated, the synthetic sapphire forms round masses that are sliced into pieces with diamond-coated saws. These disks are then ground and polished into watch crystals. (One reason sapphire crystals are relatively expensive is that the tools required to make them are costly.) Sapphire (whether natural or synthetic) is one of the hardest substances on earth. It measures 9 on the Mohs scale, which is a system for rating the relative hardness of various materials. (Diamond measures 10, the highest rating.) Watch crystals made of synthetic sapphire are often marketed as "scratch resistant", meaning they are very difficult - but not impossible - to scratch. Diamond can scratch them; so can man-made materials that incorporate silicon carbide, which, with a Mohs rating of between 9 and 10, is, like diamond, harder than sapphire. These materials are sometimes used to make simulated-stone surfaces for furniture or walls. The watch wearer should note that accidentally scraping a sapphire crystal against such a surface could cause a scratch.
  4. Na its a gen! The guy was a bit miffed when i told him what i paid for mine though!

It came free with 01 2008 chronos
  10. The wheels are for the cabe to be able to lenthern and shorten with the changing weather, the only thing i can think of is that the cable was down for maintance the antlers got caught in the cable and he was hoisted back up when the cable was re -tensioned, but surly you would know if you were hoisting a tonne of animal up as well??????
  11. WTF and how the phuck????????????????????? Come on Bob how did it get up there?
  12. They are very nice indeed and very elegant in an every day sort of way, i prefer this onewith the big date on leather, i found it very readable, i also like the spirit as it a touch larger and has an older look to it with the hands and numbering. I could see after chritmas what the price would be taxfree in germany for you but i think you should be able to get the tax off in UK?
  13. Those seals should have been silicone greased as part of the water proofing process that DSN carried out????? if they are dry then that tells a story! but yes if they are dry then they need greasing.
  14. Have a great christmas then as it will be cold when you get back. Glad to here you are enjoying it there.
  15. Wow that is a couple of hundred K just in that one box, how the hell does he chose what to wear? Hey Dutchy how is school in the UK have you started yet?
  16. I have a tupperwear box full of silica gell packs to dry out any watches that fog, if i get any fogging i remove the case back and place the watch in the box for 24 hours to ensure that it is dry before resealing, a zip lock bag with silica gell works fine too.
  17. I take it that number is so low because when the old auto subscriptions ended they were not renewed by many older members with high post counts.
  18. It all depends on how active you are when you are wearing it and how wound it gets, if you sit at a desk all day the watch will not get wound as much as say a mechanic who is moving his arms all day. Both the ETA 2824 and 2836 should have a power reserv of 40 hours when fully wound, I tend to get over 24 hours on all my autos, if only worn during the day but if i wear them continualy for a couple of days and nights then i get closer to 40hrs, as to the screw down crown turn it anti clock wise whilst pressing in untill you feel the first thread click in and then tighten this way you will never cross thread the crown
  19. Was the monaco auto or hand wind, if it was hand wind we may see it with out the rotor to fit in a thinner case.
  20. Sad is it not that people will happily pay the price for the watches they find here rather than what the pay at whatever scam site but no stump up the $30 a year to support.
  21. Nice looking movement tourby, are these NOS or reclamed from pocket watches
  22. Yopu could proberberly twist that straight with your finghers, no?
