Were there threads on the case back, or is this a new cheep press on back and case??
-
Very hard to tell from a photo but as the rest looks exactly like ETA why would the use a different size pinion?
-
Great minds Pug, hows the strap holding up?
-
I just started a thread ref these copys and the others adverised as eta copy or asian eta here must have stated typing at the same time as youguys.
-
I know that our ETAs are made in china call them Chiss, Swinese or what ever, what i would like to discuss here are the so called 28800 25j eta copys that the dealers are refering to such as in the new $128 UPO here and the beginermariner listed here (apologies to josh for just using his examples, but he is not the only one) At what point are these ETA copys, ok they run faster than you standard asian 21j and they may or not have more jewels, they may use ETA hand sizes. So far the only movements that i think could say (and please correct me if i am wrong) they are copys of ETAs are the seagul ST18 and this from river notice it looks exactly like an ETA and has the micro regulator but look under the balence, no ETA stamp or markings! no that looks like and ETA copy to me. I think the dealers need to look at the way they advertise and the wording they use, in a legitimate business or even on the bay we would be up in arms at this flagrant use of misadverisement. I am not an ETA snob by any means and would more than happy if every rep had a repped movement ala seagul, far truer to the idea of a rep. We do however need to sort out the wording that is used, i am able to recognise what is and is not an ETA others may not.

Pam 2533 Vintage With Russian Movement: Problems
FxrAndy replied to ryyannon's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
I looked for a while and got a vintage one (with the balence screws on the balence wheel) for £10, they said it was serviced as well, the movement was very clean and has ran perfect for the last 3 months or so, so shop about cruise the bay and you will find one no problems. Might be worth keeping your eye on this ebay shop it is the new shop from the guy i bought mine from (i think) name change now he has a shop. -
Pam 2533 Vintage With Russian Movement: Problems
FxrAndy replied to ryyannon's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Not sure what it would be, but to replace the movement total is a dodle and they are easy to get out of pocket watches. Mine stopped (when i dropped it) and i just swapped out the movement. -
I cant say if i would be free that far in advance but i would be keen to go especialy if there were to be a GTG, it is the same time as my wifes Bday so i might treat her to dinner with some watch enthusiast!
-
I have no problems with the 3 piece straps on the aqua terras and the pins look exactly like the PO ones, i use the strap press that comes with PTs starter tool set to start ot off then i have another with a longer but weaker pin to push it the rest of the way, works a treat for me.

Could you imagine that "Hey you guys (in a smarmy voice) i just fixed my (insert rare vintage) with 2 pac epoxy a cloths peg and a bit of string" Wow well done i have been meaning to send my (insert rare watch here) to the secret repair station in Alaska for a bit of weathering and aging" When i repaired my vintage Gen Omega You got to have a go sometimes! I think this sort of enginerring is a very british thing though!
-
Nice enginering Pug, what you cant do with a hammer, screwdriver and a pair of pliers aint woth doing, I repaired a snapped stem on an asian IWC GST tonight with superglue and part of an old spring bar!
-
Very interested too, but would love to hear something from our movement experts or even know the real name for the movement, so we will know exactly what it is.
-
@mr nixon, we are refering just to 127s, i have heard of 1 212 that has had the same happen but apart from that only 127s
-
Well i found the hands on O frei i think but am happy with the ones on mine for now, but let me know how you get on, especialy finding the dial, that is the bit that i would like to change.
-
Well it realy looks as if this affects all the newer fiddys from the major suppliers, of those that have had them fixed has it re-occored?
-
I think they will as well, which ones you going to do?
-
What sort of camera is that to get in that close and still focus, great to see though!
-
As this is starting occour more oftern i thought it would be good to see just how oftern this has happened and to which watches.
-
Got a davidsen saphire for it but it is a touch to small, but the repair man says he has sorted it i will ask him if he is taking more work. By the way what is the serial number on your 127, was it 0581 by any chance?
-
I had the same happen to me, should have it back from being repaird in the next couple of days. I am soooo looking forward to having it back!
-
I know that you are not new to forums or the repworld, but just because a dealer does not have a web site and uses the forum and a photo album does not mean that he is not a good dealer! An uneducated coment like that could cost a dealer a sale! They are both very good dealers.

San Jose Tower Noted: "American 751, make a hard right turn at theend of the runway, if you are able. The DC-8 landed, rolled out, turned around, and taxied back past the Cherokee. Some quick-witted comedian in the DC-8 crewgot on the radio and said, "Whata cute little plane. Did you make it all by yourself?" The Cherokee pilot, not about to let the insult go by, came back with a realzinger: "Imade it out of DC-8 parts. Another landing like yours and I'll have enoughparts for another one." ******************************************************************************** *********************** The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as ashort-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parkinglocation, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was withsome amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the follo wing exchangebetween Frankfurt ground control and a BritishAirways 747, call sign Speedbird 206. Speedbird 206: "Frankfurt, Speedbird 206! clear of active runway." Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi togate Alpha One-Seven." The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop. Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where youare going?" Speedbird 206: "Stand by,Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now." Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurtbefore?" Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark, -- And I did n't land." ******************************************************************************** ********************** While taxiing at London's GatwickAirport, the crew of a US Air flightdeparting for Ft. Lauderdale made a wrongturn and came nose to nose with a United 727. An irate female ground controllerlashed out at the US Air cr ew, screaming: "US Air 2771, where the hell are you going? I told youto turn right onto Charlie taxiway! You turned right on Delta! Stop rightthere. I know it's difficult for you to tell the difference between C and D,but get it right!" Continuing her rage to the embarrassed crew, she was now shouting hysterically: "God! Now you've screwedeverything up! It'll take forever to sort this out! You stay right there anddon't move till I tell you to! You can expect progressive taxi instructions inabout half an hour, and I want you to go exactly where I tell you, when I tellyou, and how I tell you! You got that, US Air 2771?" "Yes, ma'am," the humbled crew responded. Naturally, the ground control communications frequency fell terribly silentafter the verbal bashing of US Air 2771. Nobody wanted to chance engaging theirate ground controller in her current state of mind Tension in every cockpitout around Gatwick was definitely running high. Just then an unknown pilotbroke the silence and keyed his microphone, asking: "Wasn't I married to youonce?"

I think the general consensus here is if they are making a buck or 2 then fair play to them, they take the risks and provide a GOOD service to us. Thank you to all the dealers here that make this hobby what it is. Let us also not forget the fact that if we want 1-1 reps they have to get hold of the gen just look at what jay is doing!

Strangly enough a pair of good nail clippers work just great!!!!!!!!!! This thing was small and fiddly, hats of to any one like ziggy who fixes chronos. I know a real watch maker could have done a lot better but it has not worked for 20 years and when my mum gets it back it will be nice for her to know that her 18th birthday gift from here father was fixed 40 odd years later by her son, It makes me proud too. I thought about getting it restored and perfect but then you loose some of the character that it has and maybe some of the memorys it holds. Right better take the hammers and chisels back to the garage now.
