  1. Hi Fred, It's going to be living its life as a 1016 in the not so distant future Once Justin's Bezel arrives we have lift off
  2. I think that's the funniest dial I've seen in ages, I love the way no ones commented on it. But of course its Gen and on a 'Gen only' forum Maybe someone should email him with the ingod website details! Its not as good as a rep dial
  3. How you doing Pete? Anything interesting on the build front?
  4. Just picked up my 16014 case from one of the many small precision engineering workshops we still have operating here in Sheffield, lug holes drilled for Gen spec spring pins. Amazing to see what these guys can still produce, from one off's to full production runs. Its got me thinking......
  5. The pictures are of a Gen mk1 1655, correct frog mouth coronet for the T SWISS T dial. The only one that comes close is ingodd44 as pictured
  6. The pictures are of a Gen MK1 with a service bezel and a later solid link bracelet which is a pretty common thing to have replaced when they were serviced by Rolex. Whether he own's it or not is a different issue i guess
  7. No Worries Andy, no luck at all at the moment. I actually owned a Gen one of these back in the day and sold it for a pittance Cheers DH
  8. I'd love to see it when your done lovely piece if its done right
  9. If i can first of all sympathize with your quest I had countless issues with a 1575 in a Franken 1655 that i build a few years ago, then even more issues with an old 1030 in a recent 6538 Sub build. I've personally come to the conclusion that I'd rather spend the extra cash on other things rather than the Gen movements. I'm in the process of finishing off another 1655 build but this time I've taken a different direction. My case is a highly modded ingod44 case which is made for the 1570 movement, a Yuki eta adapter for the 1570 movement, lifted the GMT components off the Asian 2836-2 gmt movement and put them onto a slow beat 2846, removed the hacking lever as the case is dated from 1973(pre-hacking) and had the 24hr hand frozen so it follows the hour hand and isn't independently adjustable as per the Gen movement Hope that may have given you another route to investigate, far cheaper and more reliable in my experience too! Cheers DH
  10. As the title states, if you have one that you'd like to sell then please contact me. Not bothered if it's no longer working as I'm planning on installing a Gen Swiss 7750 Cheers DH
  11. My original build Hope you enjoy it, that case took some serious working on. Looks great in the Sun!
  12. Me too, I met my second wife through a dating website. I think there is something in them. Here in the UK there are a lot of 30-40 year old's who because of Careers simply didn't meet the right person through their 20's. There are a lot of guys like me in their 40's and divorced who to be honest couldn't face the idea of standing in a bar every Friday night, trying to chat up a 28 year old stunner, maybe get lucky and have a night of hot sex. Then after a couple of weeks realise that you are decades apart in terms of attitude toward things in life and in reality she still wants to go clubbing with her mates while you'd prefer to go to a country pub. I think the best advise i can give is, you will meet some complete fruit cakes, but persist Rome wasn't build in a day. And if you've been 100% honest about your profile(come on now we all tell porky pies) then at some stage you will meet someone on the same wave length as you and maybe even find Love. Funnily enough its my first Wedding Anniversary tomorrow! Keep your chin up Cheers DH
  13. Very nice Striker, what's the recipe on this one?
  14. That Spitfire looks very well loved Freddy,I know what you mean about turning them into road legal racing cars. I needed a lie down after an hour in that thing, brilliant fun though. I had a Caterham 7 for a while too, nothing as fancy as the Lotus twin cam engine version just a 1600 Ford crossflow on twin 45 Dellortos. Still went like the clappers though. Colin Chapman certainly got the power to weight ratio theory right.
  15. Ahhh Freddy, fond memories of working on my old Truimph Spitfire, on my drive with the aid of bricks and a crappy trolley jack. Engine out, lightened fly wheel, ported and gas flowed head and a set of Motor Bike Carbs for good measure. Uprated suspension with race spec anti roll bar. That thing flew and grunted beautifully through a stainless steel manifold and straight through exhaust system. Now the Lotus Elan was a very different story, glass fibre under the finger nails ain't great!
  16. Hi Flash Hopefully some useful information for you on the Rolex 1655 rep, as a lot of the guys have already pointed out most people won't have a clue what it is anyway. However if you meet someone who's up on the Vintage sports stuff then he'll/she'll spot its a rep from 50 paces. Having said that you can improve the watch quite easily with an ingod44 dial, better AM bezel, gen crystal and gen crown, Raffles Orange 24hr hand, get the lugs drilled and you'd have a very nice wearable example. 1. The case its too big,too thick and more like a Rep Sub case. The bezel doesn't overlap the case correctly at 4 and 8 on the bezel as per Gen 2. Crown guards are wrong in terms of shape and side profile 3. No outer groove on the case back 4. The numbers on the bezel are incorrect in terms of the 4's font 5. The dials have the wrong shaped coronets for either the earlier T SWISS T or the later T SWISS < 25T dials 6. The Orange 24hr hand really is the biggest give away, completely the wrong shape and length 7. The crown on the ones I've owned feel very cheap44 8. The case should have larger lug holes to take the 2mm spring bars As Fred suggested, I'd keep an eye out on the sales forum for a nice modern Explorer which may have had a few nice upgrades like Gen Crown, crystal etc Cheers DH
  17. Very nice as always D, Looking forward to getting my 1016 parts over to you for the build! Cheers M
  18. Very nice B, got back from the Lake a few hours ago after 2 hours of watersking. You know when you got to the top of that Mountain, that's how I feel now with bells on. Not sure if I'll be able to walk tomorrow! 31 degrees her in the UK today
  19. Same they can't replicate the plate engravings as per the new generation of Panerai reps. All that effort on the rotor and........ I guess that will be the next ploy for us to buy the next version that's on offer!
  20. Correct on the Jmb front, alternatively J you can always buy my NOS smooth bezel M
  21. A, regarding the bezel, NYGuy(correctly spaced 6263 bezel) on Ebay was offering a really nice one recently. Might be worth making contact. Don't bother with Phongs case. Cheers DH
  22. Hi A, The 1675 case is quite a bit thinner in profile than the 1655. Saying that though if your going to buy a Gen 1675, change the dial, hands and bezel then at least you can always swap the stuff back if you change your mind and you won't loose any money. Unless your in the company of a 1655 geek no one will ever know. By the way ALL offered aftermarket cases are wrong in one form or another. I've had em all over the years Phongs, ingods, Ndtrading etc and the biggest tell is that the cases are too big so the bezel doesn't sit correctly over the 4 and 8 placement on the bezel. Here's some pictures of an ingod case which i spend a few hours modding, biggest advantage with their case is that it has the correct outer sunken groove on the case back as per Gen, so you can work to that as a guiding point when removing excess metal!! Metal removed from both sides of the case and a lot of material removed from the CG's including the lower half to create an up turned angle, work to the inner CG's too. Cheers DH
  23. Bugger! I wrongly assumed that because it was a 17 jewel movement i thought it would be a slow beat. Another valueble lesson learned. Cheers
