Thoughts on Josh's 7836? Got to be the best option in terms of price?
-
Well you learn something new everyday B,funnily enough I've also got one on the way. I'm intriguted to see what the brown colours like. It may need a little more of Freds brown shoe polish treatment.
-
Just to let you all know that Josh's new website is www.p-cls.com Cheers DH
-
B, you can get hold of Lenny@ingod at chronometer04@gmail.com He should just send you a paypal invoice directly. Funnily enough I ask Fred earlier in the week about that brown 2 liner. Not sure you noticed but both lines are in gilt. He confirmed what I'd been thinking.Normally depth rating in silver? I'm no expert but i think the ingod BLACK 2 liner looks as nice as my Mq job, worth bearing in mind that his website pictures are crap and its a third of the price Cheers M

Looks very nice and Gen to me, as MD rightly pointed out you really need to have a movement shot. When you inspect the watch the biggest tell tale will be that the 24hr hand should move in line with the hour hand, in other words its not separately adjustable. Its should also be non hacking if its dated from 1969. DH

Can't remember ever seeing a 7750 based 6263 offered from Josh or Andrew? Only the Venus version with the fixed hand at 6. But maybe i missed it chaps
-
Hi Guys Just bought this over on one of the other forums, it fits a 7750 movement. I assumed it was one of DW's? But the ROLEX font looks too bold, and the Daytona text sits too low. The Gen 6263 was never offered in a White dial only pale starburst silver. Anyone seen this before?
-
Hmm, too
-
please step forward Mr INGOD44, I of course realise guys that his cases doesn't have the same finese and the engravings are not the best. BUT apply a few hours of loving care in terms of ageing and softening. Then perhaps add a nice chrome plated brass bezel from Natalie and i think your certainly down the right route. Looking at his current 6538 dials, i have to say pound for pound they make very good value for money. send it off to Big Daz or one of the other Modders on here and its going to look the part too. Speaking from personal experience, unless your really wanting to go the full Gen movement route the investment into a 'hit and miss' phong case doesn't warrant the time and effort involved. Having purchased a number of cases from him over the years you really are taking a big risk at $1500 a pop. i've had to send back at least 4 examples, simply because they are very different to what he has pictured on his website.

Very Nice Mate, congratulations on a perfect build
-
Here's Natalies 'top of the tree' job, notice how the crown and other gilt print is flatter and the 'text rating' is raised. I'm sure CC posted something along the same lines with regards to the Mq versions. Its a 'request price' job so I'm guessing around the $800.00 mark.
-
Here's my Mq 2 liner 'entry level' dial after big Daz has blown smoke over the lume and given it a matte cracked laquer effect. Natalie also offers the 'premium' version with the 'closer to gen' printed text that CC originally bought for his 6538 build from Mq. But hers appears to be the 'double red' version.

I saw them on Ebay too B, looks like someones gone over them with a bloody blow torch!
-
ingod44 dials all the way for me, The 1665 Rail dial is a peach with beautiful print quality.Don't be put off by his crap website pictures!
-
Ditto, although I bought mine from Angus at Puretime.co Certainly one of the best reps built to date. Cheers DH
-
As stated chaps, if any of you have any DW 7750 dials going spare that you'd like to sell then please give me a shout preferably 6263 versions. Cheers DH

very nice Peter, an all time classic mate

I often wonder before the internet existed how much of this simply went under the radar? What percentage of the Vintage Rolex watches out there are in fact Frankens of a kind?
-
I guess its more to do with the economies of keeping the movements in these watches going long term. From my experience of the 1030, all of the parts i needed were thankfully still out there, but for how long? in other words when do you decided to put the watch in the box for fear of breaking an un-repairable treasured possession and strap the Seiko diver on?
-
Your right Automatico, I bought a Gen 1030 from a very reputable 'shall not be named' Vintage rolex dealer who confirmed that the 1030 was in beautiful condition and all ready for my 6538 project. In reality the movement was shot. I've ploughed the best part of £350.00 into replacement parts just to get the bugger running and now feel a bit negative about the whole build. i had exactly the same situation with a 1575 Gen movement that was used for a 1655 build i did a few years ago. Bottom line, is in my opinion don't waste your money on these grail Vintage builds unless you want to put them in a safe and polish them. 1570 possibly excluded. Nanuq has recently raised a really interesting 'pause for thought' post relating to building an externally perfect 6538 but using an eta movement, Well I'm going the same way. The Yuki eta adapter ring is now on order and the problematic 1030 will be on Ebay next week. I'll end up with a reliable watch that i'm not constantly panicking about with regards to getting it wet or bagging it. THE PENNY HAS FINALLY DROPPED!!!!!! DH
-
I'm with you Panerai, I've just ordered an eta adapter ring for my 6538 Phong case. The 1030 will be getting listed on Ebay next week.
-
Hey B, The ingod case is designed to take the Gen 1570, but with Yuki's eta conversion ring the 2846 fits straight in there. It also positions the stem in the right place. B, if you can give me the diameter of your 1030 movement I'll ask Bonsey to measure the eta ring to see if it will fit it. The MQ 6538 case may prove to be a whole different issue altogether but as Fred said you should be able to get it to fit with some Gentle persuasion, Dremmel and Hammer at the ready!!!
-
Can't wait to see this B, I'm currently having a 1655 lovingly created by Mr Bonesy up in Nessie Country using a Gen spec ingod case and Yuki conversion ring for the 2846(with GMT mods) movement. Deliberated with a Gen 1575 but after the crap I've had with the 1030 in my 6538 build I've gone the cheaper eta route. And yes the 6538 is still in pieces on my watchmakers desk

Sunny up there Yesterday then Mate, Very nice work R

I've had exactly the same experience regarding Phongs cases over the years. In particular the 1655 case is totally off in terms of dims and spec. Its just a Sub case in disguise in my humble opinion. His bezel is also too small on this particular model. Iv'e ended going with an ingod one and re- worked the case for a third of the price.
