  1. Very sad but inevitable. The sales forum seems very Panerai Heavy these days with some amazing franken watches not getting any interest at all. Panerai releasing Boutique models? Not good. On top of that the rep factories are merrily banging out new models on a daily basis, so the brands only got one way to go in my humble opinion.
  2. I think he knows its not Gen, even if he's not an expert I'm sure he'd be inquisitive enough to use google and work out how potentially valuable it would be if Gen. How many Gen 7032 case sets and dials come onto the marketplace? I think I've seen one Gen dial up for grabs in the last three years.
  3. Andy, I'd imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to track down this chap if he's a member on here. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't UK member based in Suffolk M
  4. I brought up the issue regarding the poorly Lumed triangle and Angus is going to send me QC pictures of another watch to approve. Like you say Watchmeister its a Rep so lets see what it looks like in the flesh. I've personally bought it as my everyday hacker, due to my line of work its going to get bashed, scratched and generally abused. I also raised with Angus the issue of the ceramic bezel insert as I experienced a couple of cracked ones on an early DSSD. He's said that there will be replacements on hand if needed.
  5. The original JL twin crown modes where all 44mm, I guess based on where watch trends where a few years ago. Apparently the Navy Seals who used the watches said they were actually too big and ended up getting bashed to bits, so for the single crown Ltd Ed they scaled it down to 42mm. What i personally like about it is that the case is quite 'normal' in terms of lug shape with no over sized over hangs ie-AP Diver. Also on a 22mm rather than the 24-26mm straps on PAM's etc. When i get it I'll fire you over some wrist shots.
  6. Evening Woof, Angus has them on puretime.co for $388.00 plus shipping for the Asian eta version. 42mm in diameter Cheers M
  7. Not a lots to say really as I've never handled the Gen in real life. Lume application on the triangle@12 looks a bit crap. No pressure testing or timing pictures so no idea if it will be waterproof, I'll assume the Asian movement will need a proper service on arrival as a matter of course. No close up of the engraving on the case back so again fingers crossed. Any comments Gentlemen?
  8. 42mm Theo, apparently at the request of the Navy Seals who thought the previous dual crowned model was too big at 44mm.
  9. When ever your ready mate, try a neoprene arch support insole in them, it should raise your foot quite a bit. Anyone reading this is going to get very confused!
  10. Morning Andy, Welcome to the 1665 club! That ingod dial has got to be the best out there, nice to see it went to good use pal. Take Care M
  11. Congratulations Tanya, Very nice indeed.
  12. That's stunning, congratuations
  13. Kobold Polar Surveyor Tritium dial, Ltd Ed 40 pieces.
  14. I've contacted the member directly, and gone through most of the points raised plus a few others. By the looks of the other watches he has listed I'd doubt he even realises that its not Gen. Hope he hasn't paid a lot for it! DH
  15. Congratulations M, Dedication beyond my patience levels. Mines still at the watchmakers! M
  16. Congratulations M, Amazing dedication mate
  17. Mines the hacking movement used in the later subs, I believe the movements were often still stamped 1570. Might be wrong though. You need to speak to JMB who resides on your side of the pond re- Installing the He Valve into a non drilled case. Cheers DH
  18. A very big thank you for all of the nice comments guys.
  19. Hi Panerai153, they're on the way! and many thanks for the nice comments Cheers DH
  20. Thanks Mate, Let me have a couple of shots of it when its Done. Is J installing the valve for you?
  21. Hi Woof, How you doing? mqvintagewatch is a Vietnam based dealer who makes the best case backs I've ever seen. $500 a go though. There was quite a bit of head scratching on here as to its origin. I bought it as Gen but when it arrived a few things gave it away. Luckily the vendor was ok about a refund.
  22. Hello from Sheffield, Not very long to be honest. Find a nice older MBW, then keep an eye on RVF for Gen parts. Ebay for the movement, but make sure its a good un. That's the easy bit, trying to find someone skilled enough to do the assembly is not, especially when you put a working He Valve into the mix. I think there maybe a handful of members here who can do it properly. Your going to be looking at around 2.5k to 3k by the time you've finished up.
  23. After owning numerous watches over the years including Gen's and Reps I decided recently that it was time to realise a dream and acquire my own1665 GW. At 6k a pop owning a Gen simply wasn't on the cards so hopefully this comes close. Many years ago i lived in a small village in Nottinghamshire where in the corner of the local pub resided an older guy who had worked on the oil rigs in the 1970's as a commercial diver. His 1665 was like looking at a Biography of his life. It had travelled the World and judging by the crystal had seen its fair share of action not only below the Oceans of the World but in numerous Bars as well. Very useful for removing beer bottle tops by all accounts. While I do love the look of aged Tritium dials and faded fat font inserts on the 1970's Sub models, the price of the Gen secondhand parts these days would simply not fit into my build budget. I also felt that I wanted my watch to look a bit cleaner and as it's going to be my daily wearer the watch had to be reliable, waterproof and legible at night. I have to initially thank a fellow RWG member who shall remain anonymous at this stage of the game and would simply like to be known as The Mystery Modder part 2. I think a few of you may guess the identity of this gent when I tell you he also shares my taste in Luminova dials. He has now become a good mate and I'm eternally grateful to him for agreeing to build the watch for me and without his skill and patience it would never have happened. I would like to thank Tutima for selling me his old school MBW GW and where the story starts. Many thanks to Modelizer for his help on GW Caseback comparison info. You learn something new everyday,Cheers A. Many thanks also go to Freddy333 and Ubi for confirming my doubts about whether I'd bought a Gen caseback or an MQ job, thankfully the seller was an honourable chap and I was refunded accordingly. So onto the build spec - MBW Mid case and bezel - serial dated 1978, Mr Modder gently worked his magic on the crown guards Phong Working Helium Valve installed MQ Caseback, really the best I've ever seen No idea on the crystal, I'm sure someone will enlighten us Gen crown and tube Gen 1570 Hacking movement with Gen silver date wheel - fully serviced Gen Luminova service dial Gen Luminova hour/minute hands Modded eta Seconds Hand. Its a long story ending in me owning a Gen 5512/5513 hand if someone wants to buy it Gen bezel insert Gen 93150 with 580 endlinks date stamped VD-1979(only one year out!) Apologies for the rush job pictures, nice deep scratches on the crystal before you ask. Hope you enjoy the watch as much as me
  24. Cousins watch parts here the UK supply a very good quality replacement pusher in 2 sizes, Offeri also offer the same pusher and he's US based. If the pushers are original to the watch I'd get them both replaced at the same time, especially if you wear the watch in water. That will be a watchmaker job but considering the value of the watch its more than worth it.
