  1. You're a braver man than I. Congrats.
  2. That wasn't what I was saying at all. I think many serious subjects fully deserve to be satirized, criticized and taken to pieces. War for example. Catch 22. Some Generals probably had their feelings hurt. My comment was in the context of Lanikai's original post.
  3. Oh, for crying out loud. No deities unless they wear a Swiss watch please, or unless the religion is keen on mechanical timepieces. Seriously. To agree with RobbieG I think Lanikai's heart is in the right place with children (of course), but you can't make sweeping moral judgments from a single instance. Police, lawyers, soldiers, doctors, nurses, prisoners, morticians all crack jokes about the most 'terrible' of things, because (at times at least) what other people find extraordinary is day to day life for them. Here's something interesting. I read this in the media this week, it was a quote from an oncologist - he said the single most common response from people being told that they have terminal cancer is, after a short period of disbelief and denial, that they MAKE A JOKE. There are no taboos, but yes, let's try not to hurt feelings.
  4. No problem, themuck was right to report it - we get a lot of spammers. That site is a scam site. Run don't walk.
  5. A great read....both Portfolio and Poopzilla. [bTW whatever happened to good ol' fashioned pigeon diapers?]
  6. Wow - I love it. It looks like it was commissioned by SPECTRE
  7. RWG7: The Phantom Menace?
  8. This is in jest, but since this RWG was created for when RWG1 went down, and you guys are planning on creating an RWG since RWG1 has gone down, you're going to have to start planning a new name....(as in, you're not going to be RWG1 any more). We're RWG2 here, but you guys call us RWGJnr. So what are you guys thinking of going with? I'm thinking "RWG 1b: Part Deux".....
  9. Vintage Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Can someone translate this into Chinese for me?
  10. Congratulations!
  11. You're a legend - cheers!
  12. I was watching this week's episode thinking "I'll have to check in on that RWG thread to find out what the morse code is"
  13. There's actually an easier way to accomplish what you propose - since what you describe is what would ordinarily happen anyway, but for the credit rating. If a family has their home foreclosed on, or they hand the keys to the bank, they need somewhere cheaper to live. The cheaper, vacant, foreclosed home is available. They would go and live in that home anyway, if they could get the credit on it. So the easier way to accomplish what you suggested would be to relax credit rules for people with bad credit ratings.... Except....that's kind of how the mess started to begin with
  14. Also even if something is mailed from around the corner and does arrive the next morning, it didn't legally arrive until the fifth business day after mailing. The total lameness of the postal system is actually enshrined in law.
  15. Me likes! Cheers! I must admit I like to keep my desktop a bit more upbeat though.
  16. Terrific guide - thanks Toad!! PS we probably don't want noobs sending watches to Jakub for AR for a wee while PPS Ziggy's list is closed I believe so perhaps its best not to tantalise noobs with lume services they can't get either, or at least edit in a comment to that effect.
  17. I think you're probably used to quartz watches - what you describe is normal with a mechanical watch. If it helps sometimes you can download the manual for the genuine watches online - the way the movements work is the same. The power reserve of the watch builds up as you wear it - but it only lasts so long. Some movements have much better PR's than others. The alternative is to buy a watch winder that keeps rotating the watch through the night, although I find that my Skyland will still be running the next morning. If it helps I find the Skyland takes a bit of work to get going from zero - probably it's the extra weight of the watch makes giving it a shake more of a memorable 'work out' Cheers!
  18. Happy Birthday!
  19. Do we have an award yet for acquisition of the year? I think you just won it! Enjoy - that's one helluva watch.
  20. Welcome Ace!! I think there's a Patek-Philippe Sky-Moon Tourbillon out there that may fit the bill for you perhaps. This is Corgi's pic of his:
  21. I think this is a discussion where everyone is 'right'. [As b16a2 pointed out in its circular nature] Yellowmen is definitely right that this is an 'Asian' watch - we used to be able to pick these up for less than $100. My first rep off the forums was $65 incidentally. And I spent an age picking it and pestering everyone about it. I also still have it, it's a 21J movement, it works and its a sweet watch. And everyone else is right that - if people want it they'll pay for it. That's the way life goes. They're happy they're not paying $400 for an Asian 7750..... At the end of the day, that's the price, the people that want it will buy it, and the people that don't like the price have this forum to voice their thoughts.
  22. Great review!
  23. The Big Pilot they're talking about has a non-functioning PR. The movement is definitely not setting the manufacturers back much.
  24. Congratulations - it looks picture perfect. Sounds like you had all the luck with the weather too.
