  1. It's a gorgeous strap, but my heart wishes they'd chosen a different stitching.
  2. Don't make me post the infamous one and only No-Date Day-Date..... Children, avert your eyes.....
  3. Excellent point. The fax to recommend firing their PR firm is already sent Okay - amend joke to SIHH 2010!
  4. Great review!! Thank you!! I think this watch is a real looker - with an AR upgrade perhaps doubly so. It's one of those watches that I really like the look of but not so sure I'd wear too much though.
  5. Don't wear a watch. Don't even focus on you. You're going to look like a lamb to the slaughter house whatever you do. They'll smell the blood a mile off. Focus on them instead. Is their prostrate playing up? Can they even manage an erection any more? Are they menopausal? Amaze them with your virility and joie de vivre. Even if they win on the procedural technicalities, inside they'll be broken wrecks*. [*Not actual advice. Conditions apply. All readers should consider comments in light of their individual circumstances, or if all else fails wear an Omega or Breitling.]
  6. She must be a fast runner....you rarely say more than three words at a time! (I'm just yanking yer chain. )
  7. That guy probably just ruined the Panerai 2009 SIHH launch of their latest 'secret' model. Either that or someone at Richemont just slapped their head and went 'PVD the entire range! Why didn't we think of that?!' I commend the guy personally, he broke from the pack. Crazy yes, but good kind of crazy.
  8. The PVD is EVIL!!! I like!! Fantastic review - thank you, this rep had completely passed me by.
  9. Love it. I don't think I'll be truly happy until my office has port holes. Or, er, I start working on a yacht.
  10. Necropost of the year! Hope you enjoy the watch!
  11. It might be worth mentioning that if the watch ever stops working you'll take it as an omen that the marriage is over....in the hope that she throws in some free servicing. (I keeed, I keeed). Actually I have to admit that it's the circumstances of the watch gift / purchase rather than the actual watch that determines its importance to me. It's the link with the event that I remember. But I understand why the purchaser might be more reticent. Ideas include just giving the web shop address for a dealer you prefer - it's pretty easy to pick one out then. An alternative is to scour the used gens on sale for something of a deal. Even a quartz perhaps. The budget is going to narrow things down. As you say, there are some decent choices on PMWF (Poor Mans Watch Forum) too - a Seiko or so on.
  12. Congratulations T - fantastic photos, and the best of luck and much happiness to the both of you.
  13. And just a reminder - the tickets are only US$3, 2 quid or 2 euro give or take (it's AU$5, which is kind of like a Zimbabwean peso ) It's a great raffle for a great cause. Kudos and thanks to all the generous contributors and donors.
  14. I know this one. It's the mathematical equation for how many fewer Krispie Kremes the contestants need to eat each day to fit into their favourite pair of pants.
  15. Is this the right shirt but the wrong size? http://www.rokit.co.uk/product.php?product_id=MC150964 or is it something more like this? http://cgi.ebay.com.my/Vtg-50s-Mens-Wool-P...emZ380098885543 Either way - the vintage clothes stores look the way to go.
  16. It's extraordinary. The real killer has been the speed. There will be a full inquiry and better figures over the next few days (everything's a bit anecdotal at the moment) but this fire moved fast. It's not a major deal for a fire to reach the edges of an urban area normally - that's what the preventative backburning and rural fire service are trying to achieve - as long as it doesn't reach the houses. [There are a lot of intra-urban bush fires too - there a lot of national parks within cities]. People next to bush areas are used to bush fires - a lot of them had fire pumps and the full gear to protect their property. Folk in town wouldn't perhaps expect it to reach the main street (I wouldn't). From what I've read, folk in one area knew that the fire was 80 km away. That's not something you would stress about...hardly an emergency. But they were fighting for their lives in a firestorm 30 minutes later. That's the shocker - few knew they were even in peril. [i suspect that by the time that they were told there was a fire 80 km away it had already travelled a fair distance]
  17. Classic! What was the food? I had no idea dragons had gone all vegetarian on us Plus is that second photo taken at your shoulder height?
  18. It is absolutely shocking - it came out of nowhere. An entire town has been destroyed, and 66 bodies so far. Horrific.
  19. This is phenomenal. The macro photos are impressive enough, let alone the watchmaking! I always love the idea of being able to improve, personalize, and tinker with these watches in a way that few gen owners would dare. That movement is a beaut. I may have to dust down the old Fiddy in the morning after reading this!
  20. The dashboard clock on a new Mercedes always wins hands down.... Failing that my suggestion is always to show them some gen watches and see which ones they like. There are decent ladies reps out there, it's more finding the one they want.
