  1. Have you wound it by hand??? The rotor might be spinning but not actually winding.
  2. It's a shame because that certainly was a more flexible system. I believe I initially had my contributions set up as a $5/month recurring charge which seemed pretty reasonable...people spend 5 bucks on a pack of cigarettes these days. As I stated, I was unaware of the changed status of my account until the discussion here prompted me to look. Starting this thread was worth at least that!
  3. Ziggified 1665 MBW GW. I love this watch. Vintage lume, Genuine crown and case tube, drilled lug holes and genuine springbars, "pearless" aftermarket bezel, Clark's crystal. I always ranted against MBWs...they never made any sense to me but now that I own one....
  4. That's good news...when the transaction is complete, you should post your thoughts in the dealer review area. You never did clarify if you wound the watch by hand (at least 50 crown turns) before trying it again. All 7750s, Asian and Swiss need to be fully wound in this manner before declaring them DOA. You can actually mess up a functioning 7750 by operating the chronos inside 15 seconds on something less than a full wind. I know this because it happened to my Tag Link Chrono. I was given a "cure" scenario that involved full and partial winds, chrono running and re-setting protocols that fixed it when it looked hopeless.
  5. Holy Crap.....I just went into my PP account and saw that the repeat pay was cancelled 2 months ago...Just went into the CC payment login and reupped for another 6 months. Jeeze...I'm glad I looked!
  6. It wasn't my intent but it's excellent this post has brought up some issues of access that are being sorted out and has caused some members to reflect and step up to the plate. Great stuff.
  7. I don't know how you would consider my OP insulting or a call out. I was just looking for information. There was a thread related to this several months ago and I found the reasons from some long time members facinating...not from a "what an a**hole perspective, but strictly from the perspective that there are other points of view. Sorry it "tweaked" something in you so visceral. I am a little confused...you don't contribute because you don't like being called out like this??? You weren't contributing before you interpreted this as a call out.
  8. Agreed...the purpose of the question was to hear opinion....personally I throw in $20/month but since my rep habit is several hundreds if not thousands per year, it seems in proportion.
  9. Yeah...that's my point...not to shame or "out" anyone but to hear the reasons. I remeber a thread that digressed into this topic a while back and there were some spirited arguments against contributing. I just wanted to hear them in a clearer forum.
  10. I'd like to hear the rationale from long time members who don't support RWG through their fiscal contributions. Membership status can be had by throwing in less than $0.15 per day. What are your reasons...sloth...oversight...it's not worth it...some other reason???? Is it the cash???
  11. I was told that chronometer running was only insured under the 2 year warranty period and if adjustments or service was needed during that interval, it would be done free of charge...but I was told specifically that the COSC rating is only a manufacture rating, ie. that it was similar to a mileage rating on a new car and that individual performance would vary according to use. They told me Omega actually has no responsibility to insure COSC performance post sale at all...it's just an out the door rating they get from the COSC but that they do it to maintain good customer relations. Even with an advanced, lubrication free escapement like the co-axial, I find it hard to believe Omega would insure COSC specs for 7 years...they might suggest that as a service interval to regular operation but I would think they would be eating a ton of service dollars.
  12. I guess my question wasn't so much does accuracy matter to you as it was is paying for state of the art accuracy in a mechanical watch impractical? I'm actually an OCD accuracy freak. I love the fact that a quartz watch that I haven't worn in months is going to be 5 seconds fast when I pick it up again requiring only a brief re-hack to set it straight. I was very intrigued by Omega's incredible co-axial escapement and the quantum leap in accuracy it claims...but at what cost in servicing??? When I read reviews in WT of outstanding accuracy tests in high end calibers, I'm much less impressed these days. It's apparently easy to create a watch that is dead on accurate out of the box...it's much harder to design and manufacture one that stays there a practical amount of time.
  13. 12 years old and still running strong...Seiko homage to Rolex. No service and still +- 15 sec/day Sorry for the crappy cell phone photo
  14. This is the stuff that attacks my brain late at night as I watch the Super Luminova fade
  15. I have had 2 certified chronometers. Both were outside chronometer specs within 2 years and were impossible to regulate back to within specs. My watch service place (an official Omega and RSC facillity) told me the watches would have to have ANNUAL servicing to stay within COSC specifications to the tune of a few hunderd dollars a year...that it wasn't just a question of re-regulating but that fresh lubrication and cleaning were necessary to stay within the narrow chronometer certification specs. Mechanical watches that were in critical use situations like the railroad industry and in navigation were required to have MONTHLY servicing and evaluation. Is a COSC rated watch worth it? Is it just a badge of initial honor without any practical value? I know it has no practical value in terms of the quartz comparison but...why would I spend so much more for a watch that only has a fleeting association with high quality accuracy and that requires expensive upkeep to maintain????
  16. Maybe I'm missing the problem here. Set your winder to a unidirectional wind and see if the watch is powered up. If it isn't, reverse it.
  17. Had these 4 on and off all weekend Gen SMP Chrono...Gen TH Aquaracer...Rep Ziggified MBW 1665...Rep SOSF
  18. Same thing on a NOS bezel insert...I dropped out at $300...bracelets for 1680s and 1665s going for over 1K...Original mods for MBWs are getting prohibitive
  19. No gen pics but her's a link to Josh's Link. Pretty accurate replica and I believe the only issues with the caseback are numeric. http://www.pc-80108.com/tg10001-link-blue-...8242-p-222.html Zero chance of aftermarket parts mods fitting a cheap replica. You would do better to start over. The link chrono is one of the most accurate replcas out of the box. Check out By-Tor's reviews for Tags
  20. Pan Am.....American Motors Corporation.....Bethlehem Steel.....
  21. That's what I can't understand. They proudly remain resistant to overt change of their classic lines and then they come out with the Joker's version of a watch in the new YM (it looked comically close to Sector's All In tribute to cable TV poker tournaments). And Rolex green might be an iconic corporate color but it looks hideous on a watch.
  22. Great comments guys...keep it coming. My OP wasn't so much a rant about their ugly new models (they are) but that I'm losing my attraction for their old designs which are classic but dated. Look at what GP has done with their updates of classic lines. The same with IWC and Breuget. Rolex looks lost...the new stuff is tooooo different.
