  1. Not that Montres Rolex needs my advice...they sell every watch they make but looking at their recent attempts to bust out of their 1960's design hole, the new Yacht Master and rehaut engraved Super Sea Dweller, leads me to believe they are caught between an old rock and a new hard place. Their new designs look so "Un-Rolex"...somewhat cartoonlike, and their old designs are stuck in 37mm, Annette and Frankie land. I have resisted buying a Datejust because it has no size presence other than the name and I wouldn't be caught dead spending thousands for a new design that would have most people saying "that's a Rolex???"
  2. Replica watch...Replica person...sounds like a perfect match
  3. Seiko divers are terrific...automatic, fantastic lume, bulletproof and at an average of $125-$175...they are affordable and not a heart breaker should anything go wrong. I have a Gen Omega SMP Chrono and a Tag Aquaracer. Neither of them see water. My 10 year old Seiko goes into the drink without complaint year in and year out. BTW...don't fall into the trap of watches without screw down crowns claiming 50 to 150 meters of water resistance. They will fog with regular water use. Only a 200M rated diving watch is really designed for submersion.
  4. Dealers???? What dealers? We have no dealers here! Your best bet, regardless of stated water resistance claims from whomever is to buy a watch with a screw down crown with one or more o-rings and a screw in caseback with gasket. Grease these seals yourself and tighten the caseback down well. I have to tell you that PO's are notorious for case tube stripping. My thoughts on reps in water are well known. I think you should consider your watch a disposable item if you are going to use it in a water enviornment on a regular basis. Some designs are more inherently resistant than others but you really are throwing caution to the wind when submersing your replica watch
  5. I love Oris Titans!!!! Almost bought one in Barbados a month ago but went for a Maurice Lacroix instead (the wife loved the ML...said "eh" about the Oris) The Ball watches look good as well
  6. Romaine Jerome...the same folks who brought us the rusty Titanic DNA watch. Looks like this is more of the same casing.
  7. Hey...no subdial spacing issues!!! Sweet piece and yes...that 3 rep to one gen logic is tough to beat sometimes.
  8. ...and very little engineering regulation and enforcement in areas that need it most. The cyclone disaster in Burma and now this. The unfortunate common denominator is a millitary government that cares very little for the masses.
  9. Can you fill me in??? Links to streaming media are blocked here at work
  10. I would wager German cased or retailed...chinese made.
  11. Sounds like you've graduated from innocent newbie to grouchy old vet Corgi Not that I'm any better than anyone else (I am but....) I alway try to be sympathetic to newbie questions. The search function here isn't always the friendliest tool and I come from a long cyber history on woodworking discussion boards. I was one of the originals 12 years ago on the old American Woodworker Magazine site and it's founders current incarnation at woodcentral.com. I can't ever remember the question "Who has the best router" recieving the frat house hazing treatment similar questions get here. Just a rant....don't mean to start a row
  12. Yeah..my rationale has always been three letters...if it was a brand name wouldn't it be written Eta?
  13. These watches are a major price point/risk/reward delimma for me. $1200 for a replica tourbi...quite a badge of honor to own one...but what about repairs and service...spare parts...employing a watchsmith with enough skills to work on one who doesn't have a problem working on replicas etc... Too many nice gens out there at this price to justify it although the thought of owning a movement that costs $20,000 in entry level tourbi gens will always pull at me.
  14. Since it's in all caps denoting an abbreviation, I've always pronounced it as individual letters Eeeeeee.....Teeeeee....Ehhhhhh but I've heard my fair share of dealers at ADs pronounce it as a single word...Ehttah. Which is it??
  15. I always ask them why they think it's a fake. If they have specific observations that are correct, a discussion usually follows that leaves them more facinated with the world of high end replicas than they imagined they could be. If they are questioning its status because every nice watch on a guy who drives a Chevy must be a fake, I'm usually aloof and vague. 9 times out of 10, responding with "You think this is a fake?" backs them off often saying "It's real? No kidding!"
  16. Commencement is now at Villanova. We're movin up to the main line
  17. WOW...gorgeous. I just got my Swiss Bluefish from Josh today. Incredible AR, excellent lume, heavy solid construction...it's just a massive, awsome watch.
  18. Wow what a small world...I'm old enough to be a Class of '78 graduate of SHHS when it was NPHS. It is so cool that Bill Sweeney taught me Physics when he was a bearded long hair wildman 30 years ago and he also taught my son 2 years ago as the button down, clean shaven head of the science department!!! Do you still live in the area? Sounds like there was some nostalga in your post. The Wawa is still there with atrocious parking now that they're known more for their morning coffee than hot dogs. HK Furness finally expanded...they actually have a decent volume of books now. Renatos is still keeping the college kids from starving but Michael's Pharmacy on the corner in downtown Swarthmore finally succumbed to the pressure of 5 CVS stores in a 3 mile radius and is no more. It's a Dunkin Donuts now. My son graduated from SHHS last year...lord am I old.
  19. Yo Philly!!! I'm in Delaware County...Media/Swarthmore/Wallingford area
  20. Been a year since my last rep purchase and about the same amount of time since I spent a regular amount of time on RWG. You guys are like crack cocaine! Just a week back and I'm already $380 into a new Steelfish...I'm looking at more rep IWCs and my post count is up. I'm a mess. I thought I had stopped all of this and found some common sense about replicas...that my money was better spent on a single 1K gen than on 3 dubious quality clones. What the hell is wrong with me? I'm infected again!
  21. Messin' around in the research lab today...no patients...no hospital responsibilities...just me and Mrs Jones!!!!
  22. Yes Josh is a dropshipper but he does have some connection to his shipper for QC in that they are supposedly tested for running quality and chrono functions before send out. My point is that not even hands on inspection is going to intercept all potential problems and you do encounter delays and higher costs from the guys who do lower volume with the hands on touch. Josh will work fairly with you about defective merchandise. I suppose there are horror stories out there about lost watches and unanswered pleas but the problems I have had have been quickly rectified. I just shattered the crystal on my Breitling TT Navitimer and went through Ziggy and several other potential sources for repair. No one had any solutions except Josh, who sold me the watch 6 months ago. He said the crystal came as a kit with the case and could not be obtained individually but that he would repair the watch by recasing the movement and dial. Pretty good customer service if you ask me. The watch was a loss and a write off otherwise.
