1. Don't those little arrows on the back of the bracelet mean push pins?
2. Interesting! You could build a SeiLex watch for a little over $100. Case $35.95 Dial $11.05 Hands- $7.05 NH35- say $40 If that black sub dial said Rolex on it, you'd be golden! I do like the NH35/36s- I've built 4 of them with Dagaz/Namoki/etc, dials and hands. Also used a couple of Seiko aftermarket dials. 4. I’m not aware of a case change made by Rolex. But then again anything is possible. Minor tweaks to a case are more likely than a major overhaul. But you can’t compare rep cases with gen and you can’t believe any claims made by rep mfrs.
5. That's a good question. My friend thinks that NDTrading morphed into MQ. We bought a 16800 dial from him around 1-1/2 years ago maybe Khoa Minh <ndtradingcorp888@gmail.com <mailto:ndtradingcorp888@gmail.com> we sent the paypal money to <mailto:muahangmy4u@yahoo.com> We paid $110 less than MQ wanted for a similar dial. Draw your own conclusions and shop at your own risk- I make no guarantees. BTW, when I bought the dial and case from NDTrading in 07 or so, I paid maybe $800 for the case and $200 or so for the dial. Built a 5508 with a 1520 movement that came from a 5500 AK. But that was back when Natalie was running the show and she was in California.
6. Yes, but I doubt you'll ever find one. Gen inserts are absolutely out of sight and all you can hope to do is find a decent rep insert and maybe do a little aging to make it less noticeable. Phong's two vintage inserts are ok and there is the 6538 inserts down the page which can also be used on a 5510. There's a book "Vintage Rolex Sports Models" by Skeet and Urul which shows various 5510s- starting with a 6538 type insert shown on Phong's site and finally ending with the vintage type insert that Phong has which was used in the middle 60s. The thing about inserts is that they are a wear item and get replaced. And I promise you Rolex could care less about replacing the insert- they'll do it in a heart beat if it's worn out.
7. This is more a question of what will be acceptable to you. First of all, google rolex 5510 and look at at the various inserts- a lot of them have the red triangle. WSO990 has one of those https://www.ebay.com/itm/BEZEL-INSERT-FOR-ROLEX-SUBMARINER-5508-5510-5512-5513-6538-65 It's not great but maybe it'll work for you. WSO990 also has the insert with the acrylic pearl in a silver triangle BEZEL INSERT FOR VINTAGE ROLEX SUBMARINER 5508 5510 5512 WATCH AUTOMATIC BLACK | eBay I used that insert in my 5508 build and it's ok- the pearl was good, font so-so. Or go for Phong's insert- I'd get the one that's for the for the vintage subs at $95- either the vintage or new look. It's not distressed so you can age it yourself or let it age naturally.
8. bidfun-db Archive: Watch Movements: ETA 2824-2 (ranfft.de) I don't see that little adjustment thing on the balance bridge, but fig. 6 shows a movement without it also. Better pics of the movement would certainly help.
9. You need to examine the movement a little more closely. Look below the balance wheel and see if it has the ETA symbol and I'm thinking that it should be a 2824-2 movement. But the Chinese can certainly copy a Tudor movement. They've copied the etas for years. The thing is, you have a rep bracelet that fits the watch case perfectly- makes you wonder if the whole watch isn't a fake. Where did the watch come from?
10. It's a fake bracelet! It's not 750/18K, it's stainless steel. The watch itself could also be a rep, open the case and find out- take a pic of the movement and we can tell you.
11. Alas, gone are the days when you could pick up a used 93150 for $300-400. I did that in '06 and '07. But my gen 16800 is now running on 593 ends and a gen clasp with rep mid links. I guess I could go to Rolex and buy a bracelet for $1000, but then they'd probably want another $1K to service the watch. I'll just be happy with the rep mid links and when the time comes I'll go to my watchmaker and have it serviced for $300-400. 12. LOL, freddy, I just saw that 93250 bracelet on your DRSD- I recall that you've got a 1575 movement in there. What's with the rep bracelet?
13. I'd certainly get the J-time after looking at those pictures!
14. The Tiger Concept watches aren't worth it- too many faults, big crown, big dial, probably no lugholes. The cartel 1655 that Josh sells with the dg3804 can be made into a 6542 if you're up to shaving the cgs off the case and can find a correct bezel. I believe Joey B did a 6542 with the cartel 1655 case- maybe you could check with him. Or you take Trusty's 6542 and swap in a DG3804, but you'd need a DWO, or maybe a 2846-2 with the GMT gear added.
15. It wouldn't work for a 5508 since the 5508 was rated 100m/330ft. It is correct for an early 5512 with the gilt printing, and the SWISS only at the bottom of the dial. The 200m=660ft in white is also ok, I believe. You might want to check the history of the the glossy finish, but I think it's ok. Of course a 60 year old dial may have well lost it's glossy finish by now. I do know that early 5512 dials didn't have the SCOC print often times so that part is ok. With a little bit of judicious aging, that could be a nice dial in a 5512.
16. ROLGMT186F -GMT Ref.6542 Vintage Red/Blue SS/SS Blk/Yw Asia 2836 [ROLGMT186F] - $278.00 : Trusty Time Watch, Your Trusty Watch Shop ref.6542 Gilt Dial,Gmt-Master (vintagepowertime.com) Here's the Trustytime budget rep and the TS watch with some aging. I'm not aware of a BP 6542, but look around. Like Freddy says, you need to figure out how far you want to go. BTW, as I recall, his is a pretty much all custom job.
17. I've got 15xx/1030 hand size as 80/130/20
18. This wouldn't happen if you used the trusted dealers here.
19. this is what I get- no picture- just code BTW, that's my old MBW red sub.
20. I recently picked up a Tudor sub from Andrew TUD031B - Submariner SS/SS Black JKF Asia 2836 [TUD031B] - $238.00 : Trusty Time Watch, Your Trusty Watch Shop This has turned out to be a nice watch. The case is 39mm and the tophat crystal harks back to the 1680 of years ago. The 79090 came out in 1989 from what I can tell, it was followed by the 79190 in 1995 which had a sapphire crystal. This watch has nice lume- it shines all thru the night. The yellow could be toned down a bit, maybe with a light brown wash of tea or coffee. Typical rep stuff- drill the lugholes and trim the crown guards. Maybe install a 703 crown with a good aftermarket tube. The bezel insert has a nice all-acrylic pearl and the bezel construction is gen like- the same as the 5513/1680. Bracelet is folded link with 380B ends and a 7836 marking and a flip lock clasp. If it was a 9315 marking it would be perfect. But there's no screws to remove links and the smallest size is 7-1/2" + which is ok for me. If you have small wrists, making the bracelet fit could be a challenge. Date font is a little thick, but the 2836-2 asian is doing fine. At $260, I'm happy with the deal. I had thought about doing a Yuki dial, but with the lume being so good, I may leave the dial and hands it came with in there. Wish I could post a pick or two but I'm having problems with imageshack these days- shit won't post on rwg.cc.
21. I'd suggest looking in the sales section here and on a few of the other rep forums and see what is available. You'd be surprised what guys can build using rep parts and say an eta movement. And it will be maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the price of a Phong. And you can't go swimming with a Phong or an MQ when you've spent $5,500 on the watch- you could easily ruin the movement if you get it wet. And once again, I'd definitely stay away from a 6538 with a 1030 movement. Phong doesn't have a price for the 6538 probably because it's so hard to find those movements these days. But you know it will be more than the 5510 at $5500.
22. Welcome aboard! Finding genuine parts is pretty tough these days- they're either expensive or very expensive fakes. Your best bet is to accept that you're building a replica and go from there. Dials are fake, not refinished, cases are good but once again, not real and Phongs stuff if expensive. Minh Quy can be tricky to deal with and you have to watch him. Ruby's watch is ok but may not have what you want. I've done watches with real rolex movements, but I'm finished with that- it's getting too hard to keep those watches going, parts are hard to get. A 1030 movement for a 6538 is very delicate so you can hardly wear the watch for fear of breaking it. A 1530 movement for a 5510 is a little more readily available but still tough to find parts for. You're better off putting a slow beat eta in there since they're dependable and easier to find parts for. It all comes down to getting a nice case and dial and putting something together that looks properly aged and convincing- that's the key to building a good rep!
23. You CAN send the watch back to Andrew. It may cost you $30-40 but it's probably your best option. Send it registered airmail, it will take a while but it's easier that trying to find someone who can work on it in your country. Real watchmakers typically don't like to work on reps and often times won't. Especially a rep with a complicated movement, which I would recommend staying away from anyway.
24. Looks like the MK3 dial is late- this one on Chrono24 dates from 1981 Rolex 5513 Mark 3 MK3 MK III Lollipop Unpolished Maxi Dial... for $23,522 for sale from a Trusted Seller on Chrono24 Note that it has a 703 crown and tube, don't know if that's original or a service replacement. There's another one from 1978 with a similarly outrageous price also.
