I have a MBW 5513 coming, and I'm already looking/planning mods. Ubi's work on Ronin's has me drooling. After studying dials from NDT, Yuki and on VRF my novice eyes don't see a lot of differences. I know pictures don't always capture the texture/colors accurately, is there a difference between NDT and Yuki that justifies 2 or 3 times the price? I would like a vintage dial but the lume color looks way too yellow. I have a early 70's gen and it's brown not yellow, the thing that throws me off is that on VFR most look yellow too. Since our resident relumer is not taking on new work, seems like white is the way to go. Which brings me full circle to, are either of the above aftermarket dials really much better then MBW?

There's a tube ( 24-533-0 ) on Ebay for 80 bucks..ouch. You could use a generic tube from Cas-Ker for a small fraction of the 80 bucks. It looks like a Gen OP (1002) has the same specs as a early Explorer type. Can I swap a Yuki dial and hand set and have an accurate 1016 / 5500?

Nice work. I'm beginning (thinking about it at least ) the same project on a Noob Explorer. Assume you used a 24-603 crown ( which I have already ) with the bigger 24-2553 tube assembly. Would the smaller 24-6020 tube have fit without drilling? Any words of wisdom on drilling the case? What size drill bit etc. Thanks

What's the difference between 24-600-0 and 24-603-0 that are 6mm. Which one should I order for a Explorer I? What is the matching tube number? Cheap unknown source, 21J powered ( I think ).

Looks do play into it, my wife is a petite middle aged white women but was nervous when she started traveling frequently. She got pulled almost every time! Now that she's an old pro at traveling she never has a problem. I'm a professional pilot with "crew" tags on my bags, I travel out of uniform and get picked for closer inspection 10+ % of the time. So there's random but also some kind of profile. Never had anyone look closely at my watch.

I own a couple gen Rolexes and a couple reps. I wear whatever I feel like wearing with no thought about it. In my business high end watches are the norm and almost no one ever comments on what a person is wearing. If for some reason the watch was more then casually mentioned I would readily admit that's it's a rep. and even be proud of how good a rep it is!
